Horse racing community rocked by tragic sudden passing of trainer after her life support was turned off

Daily Mail19-05-2025

Tributes have been pouring in following the death of horse racing trainer, Marnie Kelly, who died on May 16.
Kelly, the partner of Australian horse trainer Tony Haydon, suffered a heart attack and a seizure at the couple's Queensland property in Gympie on May 12.
She was taken to Gympie Hospital and was then transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where she was placed on life support.
Sadly, in a statement released on a fundraising page set up to support the family, scans had revealed that no oxygen was reaching Kelly's brain.
A decision was then made to turn off her life support, four days following her first admission to hospital.
'Tony wishes to thank everyone for their support and love at this difficult time but has asked now for some space,' a statement on the GoFundMe page read.
Kelly and her partner Tony (left) managed the boutique Haydon's Racing horse training stables, and are well known for their work with legendary trainer Peter Moody
'It is with absolute heartbreak that we are now raising money to cover funeral and upcoming expenses for the near future,' the page added.
Meanwhile, Haydon Racing also issued a statement on Facebook, writing: 'Today is an extremely sad day, as we have had to say bye to beautiful Marnie Kelly this morning as she passed away peacefully with Tony and family by her side.
'Marnie was the most amazing and giving person who has touched so many of our lives; she will be forever missed.
'Thank you, everyone, for your love and support through this difficult time.'
The GoFundMe page was initially started by Tony's younger sister, Mel.
Mel wrote that Marnie had begun the day as normal, adding that the family were unsure of what happened in the lead up to her falling ill.
'Tony found Marnie unconscious and hurt after what we think was a devastating seizure,' the statement wrote.
The GoFundMe Page has, at the time of writing, raised $22,850.
Haydon Racing published a statement on Facebook on Friday confirming that Marnie had passed away beside family members
Marnie and Tony were key players in the success of Peter Moody-trained horse Black Caviar, an Aussie thoroughbred horse that set a record for the country, winning 25 races on the bounce.
Moody later took to X to write: 'What a beautiful soul. What a beautiful person. RIP Kel Love and condolences to family and Tony
'From your Moody family xox.'
Moody's wife Sarah, had donated $5,000 to the GoFundMe page.
Queensland training stable JLH Racing also published a tribute on social media.
'Marnie was a truly amazing woman who loved her animals, sport and horses, but especially loved you and was by your side for so many pinnacles of your life.
'Marnie — know you will be cheering for the Roosters & Swans from up there.'
Friends and social media users have taken to Facebook to pay tribute and their condolences to Tony and his family.
Marnie (right) is understood to have gone into cardiac arrest after she had suffered a seizure at the family's estate last week
'Absolutely devastating news, thinking of you Tony and all the family, Marnie was a wonderful human,' one wrote on Haydon Racing's post.
Another wrote: 'The most beautiful, genuine person I ever had the pleasure of meeting. Thinking of you Tony xo.'
Mel also shared a tribute to Marnie on her GoFundMe page.
'Our lives were blessed when Marnie and Tony became partners and by partners they are perfect partners at home, where Tony thinks he is the boss and partners at work, where Tony is not the boss with Marnie right beside him, helping ensure everything is done to perfection,' she wrote.
'Marnie has been there for the good and the bad from Nelly days to Townsville to Gympie, where they are at the beautiful farm and get to do what they love.
'Marnie is the most beautiful person inside and out; those who know her fall in love with her straight away. I know I did, she is amazing.'

Miley Cyrus' mom Tish reveals how she feels about her relationship with boyfriend Maxx Morando

' mother Tish Cyrus is giving her no-holds-barred thoughts on her daughters' romantic lives. On the latest episode of her Sorry We're Cyrus podcast, the 58-year-old matriarch shared her honest opinion about Miley's, 32, Noah's, 25, and Brandi's, 38, partners. Chatting with guest Harry Jowsey, she divulged, 'All my girls are in such super-healthy, amazing relationships.' The proud mom, who is married to Australian actor Dominic Purcell, gushed, 'I love love and I think that they have been much more cautious in love than I was, and taken longer to make sure it's the right person.' Miley is dating Maxx Morando, while Noah is engaged to fashion designer Pinkus, and Brandi is coupled up with Matt Southcombe. Tish said her female children have made sure 'there are no red flags' when it comes to who they've settled down with. In April Noah appeared on Sorry We're Cyrus, which her mom co-hosts with her older sister Brandi, and gushed, 'My fiancé and my mom are really close.' She elaborated, 'I love that so much because [with] my past boyfriends, my mom has not been close with [them].' The singer clarified, 'Well, my first one you tried to be [close with] and then the rest were just, like, [a] plane crash. We got through it, and now I'm with a nice, little German man.' Tish split from her Billy Ray Cyrus in 2022 after 28 years of marriage, and their divorce was finalized in 2023. She married Prison Break star Dominic in August of the same year. Meanwhile, Billy Ray, 63, debuted his shock romance with Elizabeth Hurley, 59, in April. It came after the end of his short-lived marriage to 36-year-old singer Firerose, which was settled in August 2024. Billy Ray praised his ex-wife Tish via social media on Mother's Day this year. In recognition of the holiday, the country crooner — who shares five kids with Tish — posted a solemn statement on Instagram that centered around family. In addition to Miley, Noah, and Brandi, the exes are parents to Braison, 31, and Trace, 36 — who slammed the patriarch as 'evil' earlier this week. 'Happy Mother's Day to all the #StrongMothers out there. Here's a couple that made our family who and what we are,' he began. Speaking highly of his ex, he said, 'Tish Cyrus was and is the very definition of a strong mother,' adding, 'Trust me, I'm the first to admit... being married to me was not easy.' The Achy Breaky Heart singer continued, 'I'm very good at making mistakes. A very imperfect man. But thank goodness... somewhere along the line my Mama also taught me "life is a series of adjustments."' He also named Miley in the lengthy message, writing, 'I'm so proud of Miley and her guts and her courage... her wisdom and strength to bring it when our family needed it most.' Billy went on to share, 'We are so close to a full healing. We have all been through a lot.'

Jane Fonda, 87, shocks Melbourne crowd with X-rated Trump rant and admits her 'shop is closed due to flooding' in astonishing tell-all

Hollywood legend Jane Fonda certainly got her money's worth – and then some – during a rumoured $300,000 appearance in Melbourne, holding absolutely nothing back despite battling a pesky cold. The 87-year-old Oscar winner, known for her trailblazing activism and iconic aerobics videos, unleashed a tirade against Donald Trump, dropping the F-bomb not once but twice, to a stunned crowd of more than one thousand women. Fonda, who reportedly eased her jet lag with a lavish stay in a diplomatic suite at the Park Hyatt and a shopping spree down Collins Street, gave a marathon performance. She charmed fans during a meet and greet before her no-holds-barred interview with Liz Hayes. The veteran star hilariously recounted her past sex scenes with Jon Voight, quipping she wished she'd had an 'intimacy coordinator that was tough.' But it was her candid admission about her current love life that truly raised eyebrows: 'I've closed up shop due to flooding,' she declared, to roars of laughter. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The event, part of former Swisse Vitamins CEO Radek Sali's Wanderlust talkfest at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, began with a rather serene half-hour guided meditation on Thursday. However, any sense of calm was shattered once Fonda took the stage. It was Fonda's fiery 'call to arms' that proved the most explosive part of her appearance. She launched into a blistering attack on US President Donald Trump, labelling him 'that fu—er' as she urged the crowd to make a difference. The Grace and Frankie star was born in New York in 1937 to legendary Hollywood star Henry Fonda, and she is the sister of late actor Peter Fonda and aunt of retired actress Bridget Fonda. The seasoned activist, famously dubbed 'Hanoi Jane' for her stance against the Vietnam War, proudly spoke of her more recent arrests in her 80s for non-violent civil disobedience during climate change rallies. 'It feels so good to be arrested,' she confessed, highlighting her lifelong commitment to fighting for her beliefs. 'People who do things that are stupid, bad and cruel and hostile, like the people running my government now; they're not bad people, they're unwell,' Fonda declared, in her assessment of the former US leadership. The veteran actress also weighed in on American politics, acknowledging the millions who voted for Trump. 'In the United States, 78 million people voted for Trump, not all of them MAGA,' she noted. However, Fonda predicted a swift change of heart for many: 'But working class people are really hurting in the United States, men and women. They're going to have buyer's regret very soon about voting the way they did.' In a powerful and expletive-laden speech, Fonda roared: 'F--- those neoliberals and fascists and people who don't move to love. We have to move to love and empathy.' But it wasn't just politics on the agenda. During the pre-show meet and greet, the eternally youthful Fonda was quizzed on something far more personal: her sex life. And true to form, she answered with her signature bluntness. 'I don't get naked in bed with anybody anymore,' Fonda stated matter-of-factly. Then, in a candid admission that left jaws on the floor, she added: 'If I was going to have sex, I would want it to be with a 20-year-old. I like certain kinds of skin.' But I don't want to impose my old skin on somebody else, so I decided to quit altogether, and I'm so happy about it,' she concluded. Fonda was spotted at Sydney Airport on Friday, cutting a chic figure as she was wheeled through the terminal ahead of her highly anticipated one-off show, called In Conversation with Jane Fonda. Wearing oversized sunglasses, a sleek navy coat, face mask and sneakers, the Hollywood legend looked every bit the global icon as she rested in a wheelchair. Fonda will take the stage alongside Hayes at ICC Sydney Theatre on Sunday.

How Robert Irwin got in the 'best shape of his life' for THAT viral Bonds campaign

Robert Irwin has revealed how he whipped himself into shape for his internet breaking Bonds underwear campaign. The wildlife warrior, 21, set pulses racing in April after posing in a series of steamy snaps promoting the iconic Aussie underwear brand in the US. Speaking to QWeekend, Robert revealed that he wanted to be the 'best version' of himself for the campaign. He said that he was on location shooting I'm A Celebrity when he nabbed the gig, adding that he had to keep the campaign a secret. 'I was shooting I'm a Celebrity in Africa when I was offered it. I couldn't tell anyone, but I started to research this really intensive program and I buckled down on my nutrition, weightlifting and cardio,' Robert said. He added that his I'm A Celebrity co-host Julia Morris had an inkling that something was afoot. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'We'd start at 4am, finish at 6pm and then I'd be working out all night. I'd be doing sit-ups between takes, and Julia would say, 'You've got something going on', but I couldn't tell her,' he said. 'But I knew that Bonds is an iconic Australian brand, so quintessentially Australian, and that I'd be representing home, so I was going to be the absolute best I could be.' Robert also admitted that he found the slew of parodies that flooded the internet in the wake of his viral campaign 'hilarious.' He also gave an insight into how he maintains his chiselled physique back in April. Taking to Instagram, he shared a series of pulse-raising images and clips that showed him, once again, flaunting his buff physique. He was seen striking a pose that would not look out of place in a body-building competition as he showed off his rippling muscles. Videos showed Robert's workout routine, which include chin-ups, lifting sandbags, and lifting weights. Robert also posted an image that showed his workout routine written in an exercise book as well as a shot of what appeared to be a very healthy looking breakfast. 'I was shooting I'm a Celebrity in Africa when I was offered it. I couldn't tell anyone, but I started to research this really intensive program and I buckled down on my nutrition, weightlifting and cardio,' Robert told QWeekend His routine includes dumbbell bench presses, bicep curls, and tricep pushdowns. If that wasn't enough, Robert's strenuous workout also includes preacher curls and a 5-kilometre loop run, which he completed in 21 minutes. Captioning the series of images, Robert said that health and fitness had always been priorities in his life. 'Wellness and fitness have always been a big part of my life, and one of the things that got me excited to be part of my recent Bond's shoot was that it gave me a real goal to strive toward,' he said. 'I wanted to feel my best to represent Australia! Life is so busy right now, but there is never a perfect time to get into better shape (and I'm not just talking physical shape!!!).' Continuing the expansive post, Robert had some sage words of advice for followers looking to start their own fitness journey. 'There isn't one single formula to follow. I reckon the most important thing is not to compare yourself to anyone else, just keep trying to be the best version of YOU,' he said. 'Listen to your body, keep moving and improving. Treat your whole body, inside and out with kindness, focus on good nutrition and apply a healthy amount of discipline. 'It has done wonders for my mind, and given me that extra lightness in my step.' Robert, who is the son of the late icon Steve Irwin, posed in a series of smoking pictures for People Magazine as he modelled the Aussie underwear. In one picture, Robert left little to the imagination as he wore a pair of white underwear, giving a smouldering look to the camera as a large snake was wrapped around his neck. In another snap, he cuddled with a large lizard, but this time, Robert was more covered up in a casual white tank top and dark teal undies.
