'The Couple Next Door' Season 2: Breaking Down The Ending Of The Twisty Drama

Elle24-07-2025
Fans of Channel 4's The Couple Next Door need no disclaimer when it comes to the messiness that goes on in the cul-de-sac that is The Crescent, and since the release of season two on July 14, we've been welcomed back into the high-stakes drama that goes on in the street, as this season turned its focus to more inhabitants of the neighbourhood, both old and new.
Enter heart surgeon, Charlotte Roberts (Annabel Scholey), and her husband, consultant anaesthetist Jacob (Sam Palladio) who are central to the unfolding of the drama. On the surface the pair seem to be fairly happy, however, before long the cracks of their relationship become glaringly clear, thanks to the introduction of new neighbour and colleague Mia (Aggy K Adams).
Shrouded in mystery, Mia is a surgical nurse at the hospital who is anything but straightforward. On the run from a dark past, her enigmatic nature draws both Charlotte and Jacob in. Before long, her presence makes the couple wonder if their relationship needs shaking up - possibly with the help of Mia.
Adding fuel to the fire is Charlotte's ex, Leo (Sendhil Ramamurthy), whose surprise return home shocks everyone and threatens to dismantle her marriage even further. Soon it becomes clear that the duo has residual feelings left over from the relationship that they shared while in university.
But things start to turn as the couple increasingly welcome Mia into their relationship.
As expected, the series delivers on raunch - a given, of course, when you open your marriage to your neighbour and colleague, whose mystique quickly switches from charming to borderline dangerous. As well as this, the emotional fallout from their escapades comes to a head as Charlotte begins to develop feelings for Mia.
Before any of this can form any real shape, all eyes are on Mia for the wrong reasons as it emerges three hospital patients under her care have died mysteriously, including Leo's father - and she's banned from the hospital and talking to her colleagues. More questions about the mysterious nurse remain after her psychotherapist, who has been calling all series trying to track her down, ends up at her house.
As the series comes to a close in the sixth episode, Charlotte begins to become suspicious of her husband - and whether he has an involvement in the three deaths at the hospital. She enlists the help of Leo and her friend, Gemma - and promises to keep him busy in surgery, while trying to act normally.
Eventually it becomes clear Jacob was the culprit, not Mia - and he confesses to Charlotte. After a mistake with the first patient, he decided that framing Mia for more deaths would lead to Mia getting in trouble - and saving his marriage.
Jacob refuses to take the blame though, and instead drugs Charlotte and writes a suicide note that wrongly says she had lied for Mia. However, when CCTV of him entering Leo's father's room emerges, Leo, Ben and Gemma swiftly move to have Jacob arrested - and Charlotte is saved just in time.
Despite Alan trying to pin her former therapist Isak's behaviour to him and calling the police, Isak gets away - with Mia's money that she took from her parents ill-gotten gains.
Mia then - once she knows Charlotte has survived - is clear to go where she wishes. Eventually, the viewer learns, she's settled in Antwerp (where she had that encounter with Charlotte and Jacob) and is acting as a tour guide. Though she does seem to set her sights on a new couple...
Alan is safe despite being thrown down the stairs, and completes his community service. He even finds a potential love interest in Mia's friend, Yvonne.
Between the series' steamy scenes, murky neighbours and concealed secrets, season two of The Couple Next Door is nothing short of a complete and total whirlwind.

Kittie Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Debut Album with EP of Re-Recorded Songs, Unveil 'Spit XXV': Stream

The post Kittie Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Debut Album with EP of Re-Recorded Songs, Unveil 'Spit XXV': Stream appeared first on Consequence. Kittie are commemorating the 25th anniversary of their debut album Spit with an EP of re-recorded songs, out September 19th on Sumerian Records. Titled Spit XXV, the four-song release sees the metal band revisiting highlight tracks from its first album alongside original producer Garth Richardson. The selections include 'Spit,' 'Do You Think I'm a Whore?,' 'Brackish,' and 'Charlotte,' with the title track available to stream now. While it's recognizably the same song, the Canadian quartet have given it a new coat of paint, updating the sonics and fidelity to 2025 standards. It's closer to the brutal sound of post-reunion Kittie, as heard on the comeback LP Fire that was released last year. 'It's hard to believe that 25 years after its release, and almost 30 years since Kittie began, people are still talking about Spit,' remarked singer-guitarist Morgan Lander in a press release. 'There is something truly unexplainable in why our debut album is still resonating with people, finding a new audience and has had such a lasting impact on so many.' She continued: 'Reimagining some of these classic songs for the 25th anniversary of Spit was a lot of fun and a true testament to their longevity. It reveals just how relevant in the musical landscape they still are today. We were honoured to work with Garth again where it all began after more than two decades, and doing so was a cool way to pay homage to the past while updating these songs with a modern sound, bringing them into the future.' Editor's PickAlthough no details were given regarding a physical release, fans can pre-save the Spit XXV EP via digital outlets at this location. Kittie will be playing the Louder Than Life and Aftershock festivals this fall, and will perform on board the 2026 ShipRocked cruise in January. Netflix UK Scripted Chief Bristles At 'TV Tourists' Barb After Success Of ‘Adolescence'

Netflix has been quick to respond to criticism that the streamer behaved like a 'TV tourist' in commissioning hit series Adolescence. In one of the talking points of the Edinburgh TV Festival, Channel 4's news and current affairs boss Louisa Compton said the network was 'proud parents' of Adolescence because of how the network gave opportunities to co-creators Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham early in their careers. 'Without us, that wouldn't have happened.' Speaking during an Adolescence masterclass, Netflix's Mona Qureshi was asked for her response to Compton's comments. 'My initial response is consternation,' said the streamer's UK director of scripted series. The former BBC executive added: 'I don't think I'm a tourist — I've been around.' She added: 'Nothing about where I am, where we sit, and the conversations we had about Adolescence comes out of anything other than us, within the UK network team, being solely about finding shows and speaking to our local audience. 'We are all part of the same ecosystem. Adolescence simply came out of something which is us reading a script and responding to this fantastic creative team and just being utterly compelled by delivering from the get-go… No one's thinking global, let's make something globally. It's just about being in tune with what the local market wants, and what we as commissioners feel inspires and compels us.' Speaking during the same masterclass, writer Thorne said: 'I started at Channel 4. I was lucky enough to get my first shows away at Channel 4 … I'm really grateful for Channel 4, but I'm excited that Netflix is moving into this space.' 'I think the real problem we've got in TV at the moment is a certain conservatism that's crept in because of the recession,' he added. 'I think any broadcaster that's prepared to take a risk, a wild swing, which is what this show was, it should be applauded for it.' Adolescence is Netflix's second most-watched English-language show of all time. Executives from UK broadcasters have previously said that the show would have been too expensive for them to make without co-production money. Channel 4 Content Boss Joins Heated ‘Adolescence' Debate & Calls Out Netflix For Not Doing Spotlight Session At Edinburgh TV Festival

Channel 4 content boss Ian Katz has joined the Adolescence debate sparked this morning at the Edinburgh TV Festival and called out Netflix for not hosting a Spotlight Session at the fest. While noting 'we love Netflix' as a platform, Katz swung in behind his news chief Louisa Compton, who earlier today said that Netflix behaved like 'TV tourists' over Adolescence after Channel 4 had spent decades giving opportunities to Adolescence co-creators Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham. More from Deadline Netflix UK Scripted Chief Bristles At "TV Tourists" Barb After Success Of 'Adolescence' Roy Wood Jr. Predicts Stephen Colbert Will Become Leading Anti-Trump Voice On YouTube Next Year Paramount UK Chief Ben Frow Says Channel 5 Won't Be Sold After Skydance Merger 'What Louise was getting at is there is a bit of a problem when global streamers are happy to take advantage of an incredibly rich global ecosystem that has been built up through years and years of PSBs investing in talent, in small companies, spread around the country,' added Katz. Deadline revealed last week that Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Warner Bros. Discovery wouldn't be taking part in their usual Spotlight Sessions at Edinburgh TV Fest and Katz called this out. 'They don't have any obligation to do any of those things. They're not even having Spotlight Sessions,' he said. Israel-Gaza conflict Elsewhere, Katz delivered an emotive viewpoint on why broadcasters and broader institutions need to get their coverage of the Israel-Gaza conflict spot on or risk losing young audiences in their entirety. He added: 'The thing that really strikes me as an industry, and perhaps more widely as a set of institutions, is that we are at risk of missing the fact that for a lot of younger people in this country the Gaza-Israel conflict has become the defining issue for their generation. 'If we don't get Gaza-Israel right we will lose young audiences and could lose them for a generation.' Katz, who at last night's annual press dinner praised Channel 4's risk-taking over taking on the BBC's Gaza: Doctors Under Attack documentary, said his network has handled the conflict 'very sure-footedly and with subtlety, intelligence and commitment.' He said there had previously 'been a slightly lazy caricature' that younger audiences only want to watch shows like Married at First Sight and Love Island, or tune into YouTubers like Mr Beast and the Sidemen. Channel 4 has been massively ramping up drama of late, having unveiled shows from the likes of Steven Moffat, Ronan Bennett and starring Glenn Close at this year's fest so far. Katz said his team is looking at drama costing around £2.5M ($3.4M) to £2.7M, which is not prohibitively expensive, and that the network is 'not sitting back and waiting for American co-producers.' He said the network's two most-watched dramas of the year, Patience and In Flight, are 'at the bottom end scale of our tariffs.' He was speaking at the Edinburgh TV Fest on the same day as Shonda Rhimes and Roy Wood Jr. Best of Deadline 2025 TV Series Renewals: Photo Gallery 2025 TV Cancellations: Photo Gallery Everything We Know About 'The Boys' Prequel Series 'Vought Rising' So Far
