Congress MLCs meet Governor, seek action against Ravikumar, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy of BJP

:
Congress MLCs on Thursday called on Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and demanded his immediate intervention, seeking constitutional and legal action against BJP MLC N. Ravikumar for his alleged derogatory remark against IAS officer and Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum.
They also demanded the Governor's action against Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, for his alleged derogatory remarks against Minister Priyank Kharge.
Mr. Ravikumar on Tuesday expressed regret over his 'intemperate but inadvertent' remarks against Ms. Taranum. Mr. Ravikumar had, during a recent protest in Kalaburagi, alleged that the Deputy Commissioner's office had 'lost independence' as she 'took orders from RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge', wondering if she was an IAS officer or 'someone who came from Pakistan', leading to widespread condemnation.
In a petition to the Governor, the Congress MLCs urged him to take suo motu cognisance of the derogatory remarks made by Mr. Ravikumar and issue a formal condemnation of his statement, upholding constitutional values of secularism, administrative neutrality, and respect for public servants.
They urged the Governor 'to recommend disciplinary or ethical proceedings against the MLC under the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Legislative Council, including censure or suspension, as warranted.
Against Council LoP
Congress MLCs, including Minister N.S. Boseraju, and members Salim Ahmed and Dinesh Guli Gowda, demanded Mr. Gehlot's intervention against Mr. Narayanaswamy for his derogatory remarks against Mr. Kharge. 'The MLC likened the Cabinet Minister, Priyank Kharge, to a dog,' the petition said.
The petition said the Governor should immediately advise Mr. Narayanaswamy to step down from his post and take moral responsibility for the unparliamentary remark. This will ensure dignity is maintained in the public discourse and democratic institutions are preserved.
'Moreover, downtrodden members will also understand that the Governor would not let highly powerful individuals trample upon their rights,' the petition said.

CM takes dig at RaGa for paying tributes to Indira wearing shoes

Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Tuesday took a jibe at Lok Sabha LOP for not removing his shoes while paying homage to former PM Indira Gandhi outside the state Congress office. Yadav told reporters, "I have received information that the Lok Sabha LOP has come to the state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He should come. This is a democracy. Everyone has the right to come." He then said, "But he (Rahul Gandhi) offered floral tributes to his grandmother (Indira Gandhi) and did not remove his shoes. This I didn't like much because it is not in our culture. We need to give special attention to this. In our culture, we have special sensitivity when offering homage." Rahul Gandhi came to the state capital on a day's visit to launch the Congress' 'Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan' (organisation rejuvenation campaign) and hold meetings with party functionaries, MLAs, and workers. Soon after his arrival at the Congress state office, Rahul paid floral tributes at the foot of Indira's statue located outside the state PCC office. A video went viral showing Rahul offering his tribute wearing shoes.

Trump said surrender, PM Modi obeyed: Rahul Gandhi on Operation Sindoor

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, claiming the Prime Minister halted Operation Sindoor after a phone call from then US President Donald Trump. Speaking at a Congress event in Bhopal, Gandhi criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing them of lacking the courage to stand firm under international pressure. 'I now know the BJP and RSS people very well. Just put a little pressure on them, give them a slight push, they run away in fear,' he said. Modi bowed to Trump's command, claims Gandhi 'Trump gave just a signal, picked up the phone and said, 'Modi ji, what are you doing? Narendra, surrender.' Saying 'Yes, sir', Narendra Modi obeyed Trump's signal,' Gandhi alleged. He contrasted this with the leadership shown during the 1971 Indo–Pak war, when the United States sent its Seventh Fleet to the Bay of Bengal. 'There was no phone call then,' he said. 'An aircraft carrier arrived, weapons came, but Indira Gandhi stood firm. She said, 'I will do what I must.' That is leadership. That is character.' — Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) June 3, 2025 Congress leader compares Modi with leaders of Independence era Gandhi further criticised the BJP's historical stance, saying, 'Since Independence, they've always had a habit of surrendering. Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel were people who stood up to global powers. They didn't bow down.' India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of 7 May, targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The strike followed the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April, which claimed 26 lives. India rebuts Trump's claim of stopping conflict Former US President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that he prevented India and Pakistan from escalating conflict, stating that his administration told both nations it would not trade with those 'shooting at each other'. However, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar denied those assertions, stating that the cessation of hostilities came through direct negotiations between India and Pakistan.
