Meghan Markle could face 'unlikely rival' as TV star makes huge career change

Daily Mirror3 days ago

Penny Lancaster, who is married to rock legend Rod Stewart, recently launched a new career venture - and one journalist believes she could soon rival Meghan Markle
Penny Lancaster could reportedly rival Meghan Markle 's lifestyle brand if she chooses to fully commit to a new business endeavour. The former model, who is married to singer Sir Rod Stewart, revealed recently that she has started producing a product initially made for her family, now sharing it with friends as well.
A recent article compared the 54-year-old to the Duchess of Sussex, who recently entered the business world with her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Writing in the Mail on Sunday, it was stated that Penny is "giving Meghan's As Ever brand a run for its money" with her line of honey, coinciding with reports that Meghan is trying to make a splash with her Raspberry Spread.

While speaking at the Chelsea Flower Show, the Loose Women star mentioned that she had previously been producing the item solely for her family, but is now sharing it with friends. Harriet also disclosed that Penny began her unusual venture with a few beehives at her mansion, reports Glasgow Live.
Beyond honey, the Duchess sells various food products on her website, including Herbal Lemon Ginger Tea and a Shortbread Cookie Mix with Flower Sprinklers. Nevertheless, one particular product might signal an emerging rivalry.
For $28, customers can sample Meghan's Limited-Edition Wildflower Honey with Honeycomb on the As Ever website, described as being "inspired by Meghan's own appreciation" of the "art of harvesting" at her California home in Montecito.
It now seems that Penny Lancaster could challenge Meghan Markle in the world of lifestyle brands if she decides to take her new venture a step further. In the world of celebrity updates, Penny recently took to Instagram to express her immense pride in her husband, a true music icon, as they celebrate an impressive 18 years of marriage.
Accompanied by a love heart emoji and a congratulatory banner, Penny couldn't hide her admiration for the 80 year old rock star: "So proud of my man - lifetime achievement award @amas."

The photo shows Rod looking dapper in a black suit with a crisp white shirt. The rock sensation has been honoured with the American Music Awards' lifetime achievement award, which was presented by five of his children in a touching moment.
Addressing the audience, Rod expressed his surprise and delight: "I'm absolutely flabbergasted. I didn't know they were here - my children." He proceeded to thank his fellow musicians and reminisced about his youthful passion for simply wanting to sing—not for fame or fortune.
Rod humbly said: "That's all I wanted to do. I didn't want to be rich or famous. And here I am, a few years later, picking up this wonderful award."

Renowned for chart-toppers like 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? ' and 'Maggie May', the legendary singer has amassed over 120 million album sales globally, with numerous albums reaching the Billboard 200's top spots.
Among other headline-grabbers of the evening were Eminem who bagged Favourite Male Hip Hop Artist, and Billie Eilish who triumphed as Artist of the Year.

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha criticises ‘out of the blue' ITV daytime cuts

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha criticises 'out of the blue' ITV daytime cuts The changes are expected to cause job losses across ITV's morning offering including This Morning, Lorraine and Loose Women (Image: ITV ) Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha has criticised cuts to ITV daytime's schedule, saying they have been "absolutely brutal" to production staff and came "out of the blue". The changes are expected to cause job losses across ITV's morning offering including This Morning, Lorraine and Loose Women, which will be broadcast from a new location in central London while still being produced by ITV Studios. ‌ Good Morning Britain is to be extended by half an hour from January, while Lorraine Kelly's morning talk show will be reduced to 30 minutes for 30 weeks of the year, ITV said earlier this month. ‌ This Morning, hosted by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, will remain in its 10am-12.30pm slot on weekdays through the year, with panel show Loose Women on from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. On her YouTube channel, Sawalha said Loose Women had been "highly successful" along with the Lorraine show, and called conversations about the cuts "misogynistic". The actress, who was in EastEnders and The Bill and appeared on ITV competition show Dancing On Ice in 2011, said: "What people don't realise at Loose Women is that we're self-employed, I am self-employed. Every contract is a new contract. ‌ "I could be let go tomorrow, I could be let go in five years, you don't know because we're not employees." Sawalha added: "What's been brutal, absolutely brutal, over the last week, honestly I feel tearful about it, is that hundreds of people... are going to be made redundant out of the blue, these are all the people behind the scenes that support us in every way." She accepted that inflation was "insane, and cuts have to be made", before becoming emotional. ‌ She said: "A lot of my friends and colleagues on this show and have worked for ITV have been there for decades... and I can't tell you how upsetting it was to see people walking around numb with shock and fear about what they are going to do... (when) television is coming very slowly to its natural end." She added that the announcement had "been so awful, it has been worse than whatever trolls have been saying about our shows that we feel really protective of". Sawalha said: "Do you know what, at the moment, all of us on screen are in work and are proud of what we do. ‌ "But behind the scenes there are people that are really suffering, and what you don't realise is when you attack the show you attack them, because you never see all the army of people behind the scenes and how hard they work. "So to all my friends and colleagues behind the scenes that have just got a huge shock out of the blue, I'm so sorry. "And (my husband) Mark (Adderley) knows just how upset I've been at home about it. I just can't bear it. So just be f****** kind (to) people." ‌ Scottish presenter Kelly has fronted Lorraine since 2010 and, under the new 2026 schedule, on weeks when the show is not on air, Good Morning Britain will be further extended by another half-hour, airing from 6am to 10am. Kevin Lygo, managing director of ITV's Media and Entertainment Division, said the changes will be "generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres". He said: "These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever." ‌ Lygo added: "I recognise that our plans will have an impact on staff off screen in our Daytime production teams, and we will work with ITV Studios and ITN as they manage these changes to produce the shows differently from next year, and support them through this transition." Earlier this month, ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall said the company was making "good progress" on a cost-cutting drive, and she expected to make £30 million of non-content savings during 2025. Other changes to the channel include making Coronation Street and Emmerdale only half-hour instalments, and Dancing On Ice being "rested". Article continues below Dancing On Ice previously took a break after the ninth series in 2014 before making a comeback in 2018. Coronation Street currently airs for three hour-long episodes a week, while Emmerdale has four 30-minute episodes and one hour-long instalment.

Prince Harry 'so disappointed' by Princess Diana sisters' take on Meghan Markle

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Prince Harry "was so disappointed" upon introducing Meghan Markle to Princess Diana's two sisters, a revealing insight has suggested. The Duke of Sussex had anticipated that Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes would find resemblances to his mother, who tragically passed away when Harry was only 12. Despite Harry's belief that Diana would have been thrilled with Meghan, he faced disappointment with the reaction from her sisters. Reportedly, they failed to see the same qualities in Meghan that they cherished in Diana, dealing a further blow to Harry, now 40, as Lady McCorquodale and Lady Fellowes did not think Meghan would blend well with the Royal Family. Nonetheless, Harry married Meghan shortly after in 2018, and the couple now shares two children. These revelations come from the book 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors,' authored by Royal biographer Tom Bower. He wrote, "Harry assumed that Diana's family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancée. Both, he said, shared the same problems. He was so disappointed." Bower elaborates, "No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend. More discomforting for him, they thought Meghan would not fit in with the Royal Family.", reports the Mirror. Despite the challenges, Prince Harry remained steadfast. In his 2022 Netflix docuseries, he drew parallels between Meghan and his late mother, Princess Diana. As reported by the Express, the Duke of Sussex said: "So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum. She has the same compassion, the same empathy, the same confidence. She has this warmth about her." However, it's been a difficult week for Meghan, who made headlines for all the wrong reasons after losing the opportunity to grace the cover of Vogue. Allegedly, the Duchess presented a lengthy list of extravagant demands, leading the magazine to withdraw the offer. In other news, journalist and commentator Esther Krakue criticised the Duchess, suggesting that Meghan should embrace her status as an attractive woman who married a prince, rather than attempting to position herself as a thought leader with a "particularly niche view of the world." While appearing on The Sun's Royal Exclusive show, Krakue discussed Meghan's recent appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, where the Duchess admitted she wouldn't know what to put on a resume. Krakue responded bluntly: "She's also never had to write a resume, let's be honest." Krakue further critiqued Meghan's efforts to advocate for complex social issues, stating: "The lens through which she views the world is very peculiar."

Millie Mackintosh's £60 Chelsea Flower Show dress is perfect for summer events

Millie Mackintosh wore a floral maxi dress from her Friends Like These collection with Next, and it's the perfect occasionwear dress that'll see you through all your summer events When she attended last week's Chelsea Flower Show, Millie Mackintosh not only nailed the floral theme in her maxi dress, but she also gave us some instant inspo on how to dress for summer occasions, too. The former Made in Chelsea star wore the Cream Chiffon Occasion Ruffle Maxi Dress from her Friends Like These collection, and it was everything we were looking for when it came to even dressing. The dress is available at Next for £59 and is part of Millie's latest spring/summer collection with the brand, and was designed to be the perfect elevated evening or occasion look. It's currently available in all sizes from 8 to 22, although the 8 is currently sold out. The maxi dress features a flattering V-neckline and has frill detailing along the neckline as well as along the underbust seam. This combined with the tie bow in the centre and fluttering short sleeves also give it a breezy, romantic feel. It's made from lightweight chiffon which makes it comfortable to wear and perfect for warmer weather, and gives it a floaty look that nails this season's boho trend. The two-tiered hemline also adds a little volume and drama that makes it more evening appropriate. Although the colourful floral print makes it perfect for the summer, if you've got a wedding coming up and think it might be too predominantly white to wear, we've found some other great high street options to shop, too. This ASOS DESIGN Petite Flutter Sleeve Maxi Dress With Ruffle Godets in Pink Floral Print is £70 and has a similar silhouette to Milly's gorgeous dress. It has short flutter sleeves that help cover your upper arms and a sweetheart neckline, and is more fitted in the bodice than Milly's flowing maxi dress. However the skirt features vertical ruffle details that give it plenty of movement and flow, whilst the pink floral print makes sure you don't end up wearing too much white to a wedding. Meanwhile River Island's limited edition Blue Floral Ruffle Slip Maxi Dress is £85 and features a bold blue background with an oversized white floral print that's perfect for making an impact. It has asymmetrical straps and a simple ruffle detail on the shoulder, whilst the dress itself has a classic bias cut slip style that's flattering and chic.
