OSK Holdings shareholders approve bonus issue, 5 sen final dividend for FY24

The Sun14-05-2025

PETALING JAYA: Shareholders of OSK Holdings Bhd have approved a bonus issue of one bonus share for every two existing shares.
The move is intended to reward shareholders by increasing their equity stake at no additional cost, as a gesture of appreciation for their continued trust and support in the group's long-term vision.
'We have delivered resilient results driven by our diversified portfolio and long-term growth strategy. The bonus issue and higher dividend payout demonstrate our appreciation to shareholders and our confidence in the group's future prospects,' executive chairman Tan Sri Ong Leong Huat said at the company's annual general meeting and extraordinary general meeting today.
At the meetings, shareholders approved OSK Holdings' financial statements for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2024 (FY24) and endorsed key corporate proposals, including the issuance of bonus shares.
The group reported revenue of RM1.66 billion for FY24, marking a 3.75% increase from RM1.6 billion in the previous year. Profit before tax rose by 10% to RM611.4 million, up from RM555.1 million in FY23.
The improved performance was supported by stronger contributions across most business segments.
While the Industries segment recorded higher expenses, these were related to strategic investments, including the acquisition of two additional cable manufacturing plants in Johor, which is expected to enhance future production capacity once operational.
'We continue to see encouraging progress across our key segments, particularly in property and financial services. The strategic investment in expanding our industrial capabilities is also expected to support long-term growth as the new facility ramps up production.
'As we move forward, we remain focused on operational excellence and seizing growth opportunities to deliver sustained value to our shareholders,' Ong said.
The board proposed a single-tier final dividend of 5 sen per share for FY24, which was approved by shareholders, bringing the total dividend for FY24 to 8 sen.

Paramount aims to maintain momentum after record high sales of RM1.4b in FY24

KUALA LUMPUR: Paramount Corporation Bhd is poised to build on the momentum of record high property sales amounting to RM1.4 billion in 2024, a 24% increase compared to 2023, for the current financial year. Group CEO and director Jeffrey Chew Sun Teong said the milestone of achieving the highest annual sales in its history underlines strong market demand and the company's effective project pipeline. In addition to the record-breaking achievement, Paramount's unbilled sales rose by 12% to RM1.6 billion, providing healthy earnings visibility moving forward. 'While the overall take-up rate was not exceptionally high, the company views this as a natural result of its large number of project launches in 2024. The company remains unfazed, noting that developments with longer sales periods are expected to register lower take-up rates initially, especially when launched at scale,' Chew told reporters after the Paramount's annual general meeting today. Moving forward, Paramount is expected to sustain its growth trajectory into 2025, supported by a robust pipeline of ongoing projects stemming from a record RM2.2 billion worth of property launches in 2024. 'This marked the highest launch value in the company's history, with many of the developments continuing to drive sales into the current year. The launches were well diversified, with 72% comprising high-rise units, 27% landed properties and the remaining 1% commercial. 'Spread across multiple locations, the breadth of projects reflects Paramount's strategic focus on maintaining a balanced portfolio, both in terms of product mix and geographical distribution, helping to ensure resilience amid varying market conditions,' Chew said. Paramount achieved revenue of RM1 billion in FY24, a 3% increase from FY23. The group's profit before tax (PBT) rose by 20% to RM156.9 million compared to RM130.2 million in FY23 on the back of sustained revenue from the property segment and dividend income from its investment in another property developer. Profit attributable to ordinary equity holders grew 24% to RM102.4 million from RM82.8 million in FY23. In FY24, the property segment achieved a record high PBT of RM145 million, contributing 92.4% of the group's total PBT, supported by revenue of RM965.3 million. The investment and other segments saw strong improvements, largely driven by the group's stake in Eco World International Bhd (EWI). The coworking segment reported an 80% jump in revenue to RM23.5 million (including RM5.2 million in intersegment revenue). However, PBT declined to RM700,000 from RM2 million achieved in FY23, primarily due to the absence of a one-off impairment reversal that was recognised in FY23. As of Dec 31, 2024, total assets stood at RM3.1 billion, up from RM3 billion a year earlier. Total liabilities rose to RM1.6 billion from RM1.3 billion. Chew said, 'Paramount's gearing level rose slightly in 2024, mainly due to higher borrowings and financing related to its investment in EWI. The company also refinanced its perpetual debt during the year, contributing to the increase. 'Gearing level is currently higher due to the structure of its financial instruments and recent refinancing activities. Despite this, the company has maintained a consistent dividend payout track record, distributing at least 38% of its profits annually over the past decade. 'In total, shareholders have received approximately RM1.15 in dividends over 10 years, exceeding the company's current share price of under RM1.10.' With RM2.2 billion worth of launches in 2024, Paramount's portfolio remains well diversified, comprising 72% high-rise developments, 27% landed properties and 1% commercial projects. This broad spread across product types and locations provides resilience against unforeseen challenges. The company believes this balanced approach will help sustain overall performance throughout the year, even if individual projects face temporary setbacks.

Call for State autonomy against unfair gas cylinder rules

David Ong KOTA KINABALU (June 4): Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Vice President David Ong strongly urges the Sabah State Government to exercise its constitutional autonomy and refrain from implementing the Federal Government's new gas cylinder regulations that burden small business operators and the rakyat. Under the new regulation, eateries are required to switch from subsidized household gas cylinders priced at RM26 to commercial purple cylinders costing RM70 — a staggering 169% increase. For small restaurant operators using 100 cylinders per month, this translates into a monthly cost jump from RM2,600 to RM7,000 — a crippling RM4,400 rise. This measure comes at a time when businesses are already struggling with compounding cost pressures from SST hikes, rising electricity tariffs, and the minimum wage adjustment to RM1,700. Ong stressed that Sabah is one of Malaysia's largest natural gas producing States, contributing significantly to the nation's energy wealth. It is fundamentally unjust for the Federal Government to supply gas at higher costs to the very state that produces this resource. Current evidence shows East Malaysian consumers already face price discrimination. Gas cylinder deposits cost RM90 in Sabah/Sarawak compared to RM80 in Peninsular Malaysia – highlighting an ongoing pattern of inequitable treatment. 'We urge the Sabah State Government to utilize its constitutional powers to safeguard the welfare of its people from federal policies that disproportionately affect Sabahans. The State should immediately pursue special arrangements with the Federal Government to secure preferential pricing for gas used in Sabah, just as East Malaysians have been granted continued diesel subsidies in recognition of regional cost differences,' Ong said in a statement. Additionally, he said the State should implement targeted exemptions or support schemes to protect hawkers, coffeeshops, and small eateries until a fair and regionally appropriate policy is established. Sabah inherently faces higher transportation and distribution costs due to its geography and limited supply networks. At the same time, many food operators here earn less than their counterparts in Peninsular Malaysia yet bear higher operational costs, he pointed out. Despite these disadvantages, he said Sabah continues to contribute significantly to Malaysia's gas revenue via royalties and taxes — yet receives no preferential benefit. This disparity must end. 'The burden of rising gas prices will inevitably lead to higher food costs, hurting all Sabahans — particularly low-income families and threatening the viability of small eateries. The timing of enforcement under 'Operation Gasak' is especially insensitive, as it comes during a period of widespread economic strain. 'I call upon the GRS Government to defend the interests of Sabahans by exercising the State's rightful autonomy. Such powers exist precisely to counter federal policies that fail to reflect the realities and challenges of Sabah. 'Sabah must not be punished for being a gas-producing State. We demand fair treatment and urge immediate action to suspend the implementation of these regulations in Sabah until just and practical solutions are put in place,' Ong added.

Fishermen Need To Venture Into Marketing To Expand Income

KLANG, May 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) has urged fishermen nationwide to venture into marketing activities rather than focusing solely on fishing to increase their income. LKIM chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said the extra step forward is necessary, taking into account that the income of fishermen remained stagnant every year, requiring assistance from many parties including the government. "I myself have done a business review and found that many companies such as supermarkets have made huge profits to the point of being listed on the stock exchange, while they are not the ones who face the rigours of going out to sea. "This matter indirectly raises questions about the status of local fishermen in the country's economic structure, it is very pathetic since many are still living in poverty," he said in Bandar Bukit Tinggi here today. Muhammad Faiz said LKIM is formulating a more aggressive strategy to elevate the status of fishermen to also double up as traders who will be managed by the state fishing association. He said the initiative also has the potential to be realised through the aquaculture sector in line with the government's target to ensure that the aquaculture industry contributes 40 per cent of the national fish supply by 2030. "With the aim ion of establishing the 'Gagasan Nelayan Jaga Nelayan' movement in the next 10 years, I call on all fishermen to increase their confidence so that they are capable of breaking out of the poverty cycle. "From here on, fishermen through their respective associations must change their mindset to streamline the existing governance structure to prevent fishery resources from being exploited by inappropriate parties in the value chain," he said. In another development, Muhammad Faiz also reminded the 40,000 fishermen who received fuel subsidies totalling RM1.6 billion nationwide to comply with the terms to ensure a continuation of the subsidy.
