Apple's F1 racing film with Brad Pitt could earn $115M worldwide this opening weekend, say reports
Brad Pitt's new film F1 is expected to take the lead at the global box office this weekend. The movie, which shows Pitt as a retired Formula One driver coaching a young rookie, may earn more than 115 million dollars worldwide in its opening weekend. Reports from Variety and Deadline say the film is off to a flying start.
F1 is made by Apple Original Films and is being released in theatres by Warner Bros. The film has a massive budget of over 200 million dollars. Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, the movie hopes to become a global success.
According to Deadline, pre-sales in the United States and Canada are stronger than Brad Pitt's Bullet Train and even higher than the opening numbers of Ford v Ferrari. The film has already gained good reviews and strong buzz.
Apple aims for box office success
Apple has released a few films in theatres before. Some of them had big names and budgets but failed to make profits. Movies like Argylle and Wolfs fell short of expectations. Ridley Scott's Napoleon performed better, earning over 220 million dollars worldwide.

Now Apple hopes F1 will bring its first major theatrical win. Variety reports that Apple is also offering a special deal for fans who use Apple Pay. Buyers who book two or more tickets on Fandango will get a 10 dollar discount.
Warner Bros and Apple are working together on the movie's release and marketing. They are also sharing the costs and profits. With the help of IMAX and premium screens, the film is expected to draw large crowds.
Strong global reach and racing hype
F1 is opening in 78 countries this weekend. These include big markets like the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Korea, and Australia. More countries like Germany, Spain, China and Japan will join soon. The film also had red carpet stops in London, Mexico City, Montreal and Abu Dhabi during Formula One events.

Deadline says most tickets are being sold for IMAX shows, especially on Thursday and Friday. The film is also playing in Dolby Cinema, premium theatres, and even drive-ins.
According to the publication, the film's strong link with Formula One has helped it build global attention as the sport is more popular than ever, and that could give F1 a big boost.
A chance for racing movies to rise
Movies about racing do not often perform well in theatres. Ron Howard's Rush made just under 27 million dollars in the US. Ford v Ferrari did better, opening with 31 million dollars and ending with over 226 million worldwide.
Brad Pitt's F1 has more action, emotion and speed. Early viewers say it has great visuals and high energy. With the right word of mouth, it could cross the 500 million mark globally and give Apple the win it has been chasing.
Variety says this could be a new chapter for Apple in the world of films. Deadline calls it a true popcorn movie made for the big screen. The weekend ahead will show if fans agree.

Box Office: Sitaare Zameen Par collects Rs 87.50 crore in week one; Aamir Khan film set to enter the Rs 100 crore club on 2nd Saturday
RS Prasanna's Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh and many others, has ended its first week on a pleasant note if the weekday trending is anything to go by. With Rs 6.50 crore net on its first Thursday, Sitaare Zameen Par has ended its first week with collections of Rs 87.50 crore net. For a film that opened to just Rs 10.50 crore on the opening day, this is a result the makers would happily take. The Day Wise Net India Box Office Collections Of Sitaare Zameen Par In India Are As Under Day India Net Collections 1 Rs 10.50 crore 2 Rs 20 crore 3 Rs 26.25 crore 4 Rs 8.50 crore 5 Rs 8.50 crore 6 Rs 7.25 crore 7 Rs 6.50 crore Total Rs 87.50 crore net in week 1 Sitaare Zameen Par Shall Be The Most Preferred Movie In India For Its 2nd Consecutive Week Sitaare Zameen Par trended extremely well over its first weekend and it should be doing the same over its second week, despite new competition in the form of Maa, F1 and Kannappa. The target for Sitaare Zameen Par will be to match or better its first Thursday numbers and then double it up on Saturday, before consolidating further on Sunday. A Rs 26-33 crore net second weekend seems like a very good possibility. That would make it the second best second weekend of the year for Bollywood, only behind Chhaava. Needless to say, the film shall remain the most preferred movie option of the week in India, ahead of all the holdover releases, as well as new releases. Where The Second Weekend Numbers Of Sitaare Zameen Par Land Shall Be Very Crucial The second weekend trajectory will be very important in order to know where the Aamir Khan starrer is headed. A Rs 26 crore second weekend would suggest a Rs 150 crore range finish while a Rs 33 crore second weekend would keep it in contention of doing over Rs 170 crore net. This is considering that the movie will face stiff competition even in its third week, in the form of Jurassic World: Rebirth and Metro... In Dino. Despite the universal nature of Sitaare Zameen Par, it is the metros that shall drive the biz of the movie forward. The mass centres have more or less slowed down to levels from where it will be hard to pick up. As about how Sitaare Zameen Par is doing internationally, it should cross USD 6 million by the end of the second weekend. Sitaare Zameen Par In Theatres Sitaare Zameen Par plays in theatres now. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates on Sitaare Zameen Par and Aamir Khan.

Brad Pitt reveals real life inspiration behind F1 The Movie: ‘This happened in 2008…'
F1 The Movie is just around the corner. After getting glowing reviews from critics and the press, the film will be hoping to leave a mark on the box office. Brad Pitt and director Joseph Kosinski have often talked about the extra effort they put into the movie in order for the racing sequences to look organic and real. Guided by co-producer and seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, F1 The Movie had both Pitt and Damson Idris driving the cars for real at speeds up to 180 mph. Pitt plays the character of Sonny Hayes, who is making a comeback to Formula One, but the trailers never seem to make clear the reason behind his initial departure. In a recent interview, Pitt touched on the narrative of the film and revealed the inspiration behind some of the plot points of the movie. Pitt talked about F1 The Movie on the Beyond The Grid podcast and revealed how the 'Crashgate Scandal' of 2008 involving the Renault team was something they pulled from. The actor said, 'You know, this happened in 1994, and this happened in 2008. We were drawing from all of it. We looked a lot at – and I mean this respectfully.' He continued, 'We were a last-place team, and we needed to play with the rules. We needed to get right to the edge of the rules to be competitive in any way. And that's where Sonny starts out and is rather disliked because of it.' ALSO READ: Brad Pitt says he needed 'rebooting' after divorce with Angelina Jolie, recalls joining Alcoholics Anonymous to cope with alcohol addiction The Crashgate took place during the 2008 Singapore GP when Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr deliberately crashed his car to give his teammate Fernando Alonso an advantage. The scandal came to light when Nelson, after getting dropped from the team, revealed that he was asked to crash his car, and an investigation into the matter was carried out. F1 The Movie has been directed by Joseph Kosinski, and the cast includes Brat Pitt, Javier Bardem, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Lewis Hamilton. Pitt will play the role of a veteran driver who returns to Formula One and teams up with a rookie (Idris) to save his old friend's (Bardem) team. The film also features music from aristes like Ed Sheeran, BLACKPINK, Chris Stapleton, Doja Cat and more. It releases worldwide on June 27.
