Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya placed on leave of absence [VIDEO]
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has confirmed that Deputy National Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, has been placed on leave.
Sibiya's suspension on Tuesday follows a series of explosive allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi two weeks ago.

Masemola tasked Deputy Commissioner Tebello Mosikili to request that Sibiya take leave. 'It is a leave of absence while we are doing the internal process,' Masemola said.

Authorities looking into claims murdered 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek was abused
The Gauteng Department of Education is investigating allegations that 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek had reported abuse to his school before his death.
The department promised action if it were found that proper protocols were not followed.

Jayden-Lee's mother, 31-year-old Tiffany Nicole Meek, on Monday appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court, charged with his murder and will apply for bail on Friday.
A private investigator told eNCA that Jayden-Lee was severely beaten and that the perpetrator allegedly tried to cover up the murder by cleaning the scene with ammonia products and thick bleach agents.

Meta ordered to shut down Instagram accounts and WhatsApp channels posting sexual content of SA schoolchildren [VIDEO]
The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has ordered tech giant Meta to shut down certain anonymous Instagram accounts and WhatsApp Channels distributing explicit child pornography involving South African schoolchildren.
Judge Mudunwazi Makamu handed down the judgment in order sought by Digital Law Company, directed by social media law expert Emma Sadlier, on Monday.

In the ruling, Makamu agreed with the arguments by advocate Ben Winks that children have been victimised by the publication of lurid material.

Gigaba's ex-wife on leaked sex video: 'We were blackmailed for almost six months'
The ex-wife of Malusi Gigaba, Norma Mngoma, has given insight into the 2018 leaked video of the politician's private sex video
'We were blackmailed, I think [for] almost six months. They were demanding like money, I think it started from a million,' said Mngoma in the latest episode of Untied on Showmax.

Mngoma shared how the figure decreased from the initial one million to approximately R800,000.
'He was negotiating with some comrades about it. But for me, I didn't know what was this video until the person called me because he [Gigaba] didn't tell me that time,' she said.

Pagad member Faizel Felix rearrested after 8 years on the run
A 52-year-old member of People Against Gangsterism and Drugs (Pagad) who had evaded authorities for eight years was arrested in Wynberg on Monday.
Faizel Felix appeared briefly in court on Monday, facing charges of illegal firearm possession.

Felix was apprehended by the Hawks Crimes Against the State (Cats) team in the Western Cape on a warrant that had been outstanding since 2016, according to the Department of Justice, Crime Prevention and Security.
The department confirmed that 'Felix, has been on the run for the past 8 years' following his failure to appear in court after being granted bail in 2015.

Gqeberha protesters throw poo at ward members
Residents of Wells Estate in Gqeberha launched a fiery (and smelly) protest that brought the area to a halt. The unrest began on Monday night when protesters from Rabie Village, angry over long-overdue electricity meter boxes, dumped human waste outside the local clinic and the homes of ward committee members. By Tuesday, roads were barricaded, a bus and a panel van had been torched, and tensions ran high. Residents say they've been waiting since November last year for electricity connections that were promised to them by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. On top of chucking poo, protesters also hurled a petrol bomb at the local councillor's office. 'Community members started burning tyres and rubbish in front of the multi-purpose hall,' police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said in a statement. 'No one was injured. SAPS is currently monitoring the situation in Wells Estate.' According to Chwayita Adoons, assistant to Gqeberha ward 60 councillor and Mayco member for Human Settlements Thembinkosi Mfana, around 4 000 meter boxes were delivered to the municipality, but very few reached Rabie Village. Of the 985 households in the area, only 40 meters were brought in during a recent installation attempt. 'We wrote a letter to the residents, informing them that the boxes would be delayed,' Adoons told GroundUp . 'We did not have a specific date for delivery.' When the contractor arrived with just 40 boxes people rejected them outright, said a community member who wished to remain anonymous. 'We are all angry, asking one another who was going to benefit from those 40 boxes.' 'People then decided that the boxes should go back, and the contractor should only return when they have boxes for every household.' The poo protesters are also demanding the release of two women who were arrested for public violence during the demonstrations. Malema sets record straight on 'links' to Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has labelled reports that his wife, Mantoa Matlala, is related to murder accused businessman Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala as petty gossip. This, after reports surfaced on social media that Malema and his wife use CAT VIP protection services owned by Matlala, and that the outspoken leader has been silent on the issues concerning the businessman because his wife is related to him. The 49-year-old has been a hot topic after he was named by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as an alleged funder of the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, during an explosive media briefing earlier this month that sent shockwaves across the country. Speaking to journalists in Polokwane at the ward 13 by-election on Wednesday, 16 July, Malema said he has nothing to do with Matlala. 'He must go rot in jail. I don't know him, I don't even care about him. I've never had anything to do with him. So, you take petty gossip and you come and ask me about it? ‘Jayden-Lee's school knew about abuse': Gauteng Department of Education investigates allegations

Image: Supplied As the mystery surrounding the murder of 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek unfolds, reports of abuse allegations made to his school have risen. There have been reports that the young boy, who attended Royal College in Florida, allegedly told his peers and educators about the abuse he was suffering. Jayden-Lee is alleged to have talked about how he was left alone, did not always have something to eat, and had visible bruising. IOL reached out to the Gauteng Education Department, requesting answers as to why no one responded to Jayden-Lee's cries for help. 'The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) had on July 15, 2025, dispatched officials to Royal College in Florida, Roodepoort, to establish facts regarding allegations that the late Jayden-Lee Meek had previously reported abuse to the school before his passing,' GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona said. He also confirmed there was some truth to the allegations. 'Indeed, there is an element of truth to the said allegations; however, our team will continue to conduct their investigations. The Department has a responsibility to ensure that all learners in Gauteng are protected. An update will be communicated in due course,' Mabona said. Jayden-Lee went missing on May 13, just after 4pm. His scholar transport dropped him at the Fleurhof apartment complex. He was never seen again. At the time of his disappearance, his mother claimed she had been working from home and got worried when he did not return home. According to a charge sheet presented to the court, the State is set to prove that Meek struck her son with a blunt object. The object is yet to be identified. It has been revealed that blood was found on Jayden-Lee's bed, his school clothes and bag were also found in the apartment, as well as his schoolbooks, which had blood on them. Evidence analysed by forensic experts reveals Jayden-Lee was killed in his home. His body was only found the following morning near the house on the staircase. At the time, his body was clean, warm, and several abrasions were visible. She is expected back in court on Friday, July 18, for bail information and her attorney to come on record. IOL
