Every September, Apple hosts a major tech event.
This is usually where each year's main iPhone release is revealed. It'll then go on sale about a week and a half later. Last year's saw the iPhone 16 debut.
We'll almost certainly see other Apple gadgets too, but they're all top secret for now.
In fact, Apple hasn't even confirmed plans for a September event – but it doesn't take much guesswork to work out what's what.
WHEN IS THE SEPTEMBER 2025 APPLE EVENT?
Although the Apple event is likely now just weeks away, we won't find out the truth until very close to the big day.
Just last year, I predicted the iPhone 17 release date, and that means I think I've worked out when the event will take place too.
Usually the iPhone reveal is on a Tuesday or Wednesday in the first half of the month.
So this year, we're expecting to see it on Tuesday, September 9 or Wednesday, September 10.
Tuesday feels like the safer pick, so mark your calendars.
Based on that info, here are our predictions for the key dates:
Apple interview with Greg Joz Joswiak on new artificial intelligence, screening, hold assist, carplay, liquid glass and ios updates
Apple iPhone 17 event announcement – Tuesday, August 26, 2025
Apple iPhone 17 event day – Tuesday, September 9, 2025
iPhone 17 pre-orders – Friday, September 12, 2025
iOS 19 release date – Monday, September 15, 2025
iPhone 17 release date – Friday, September 19, 2025
Of course the event could end up falling earlier or later, completely throwing off our guess at the schedule.
APPLE EVENT 2025 – WHAT TO EXPECT
So what will Apple actually show off?
The safest best is a brand new iPhone – or rather, new iPhones.

As usual, we're expecting at least four models, but with a surprise change this year.
Instead of an iPhone 17 Plus, it's rumoured that we'll see an ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. Yes, really. This could be the thinnest model we've seen in years – and possibly ever.
So the full line-up for 2025 would look like this:
iPhone 17
iPhone 17 Air
iPhone 17 Pro
iPhone 17 Pro Max

That's a slightly confusing set-up, so it's possibly that Apple does even more tinkering with the names to make simplify things.
These gadgets will likely ship with brand new A19 processors.
And it's rumoured that we'll see a larger camera panel on the back of the phone that stretches all the way across.
The Apple Watch is also looking set for an upgrade this year.

Apple could debut a sequel to the Apple Watch Ultra 2

On-and-off rumours have suggested that Apple is hoping to include a blood pressure monitoring feature on the Apple Watch Series 11.
And we could see an even more powerful Apple Watch Ultra 3 with the same perk – in addition to satellite-powered texting. That makes sense, given that it's aimed at outdoors types.
We're also expecting to see a major audio upgrade in the form of the Apple AirPods Pro 3.
The original AirPods Pro came out in 2019 as an upgraded noise-cancelling alternative to the regular AirPods wireless earbuds.

Second-gen AirPods Pro dropped in September 2022, followed by a boosted version of the same model with a USB-C port for charging.
For the AirPods Pro 3, Apple could introduce a redesigned model with improved noise cancellation and boosted audio.
But there are also rumours that the new earbuds could also monitor your heart rate and body temperature for health purposes.
Finally, it's also possible that we might see a new version of the Apple TV 4K.
That's Apple's plug-in streamer that connects to the back of your telly to give it a fancy iPhone-style UI, plus access to loads of apps and features.
The jury is still out on whether this will debut at the September event or a later Apple showcase (or possibly via press release alone).
Apple's last major Apple TV 4K release was in 2022 with the third-generation model.
So it could be time for an upgraded version with faster processing.

Other gadgets that have also been rumoured for release in 2025, but are less certain, include:
A smart home hub display
New Mac and MacBook Pro models with an Apple M5 chip
New Apple AirTag 2
Apple Vision Pro 2
Sadly none of these gadgets are guaranteed, and could come in 2026 (or never!).
We won't know for sure until Apple chief Tim Cook takes to the stage at the company's Cupertino, California HQ later this year.

Global smartphone shipments growth slows in Q2 as tariff uncertainty weighs
July 14 - The growth of global smartphone shipments slowed in the second quarter as buyers, wary of U.S. tariff-driven economic uncertainty, curbed spending, especially on low-end devices, data from research firm International Data Corp showed on Monday. Shipments increased by 1% in the April-June quarter to 295.2 million units, according to the preliminary data, slower than the 1.5% growth recorded in the previous quarter. Demand in China declined in the second quarter, as subsidies failed to stimulate demand, with Apple (AAPL.O), opens new tab seeing a 1% drop. Overall demand has tapered as consumers deprioritize spending on smartphones, especially in low-end segments. Sellers have continued to push higher price points to make up for the slowdown in unit shipments by offering AI in more affordable devices, IDC said. "In the face of ongoing political challenges, the impact of war, and the complexities posed by tariffs, the 1% growth in the smartphone market stands as a critical indicator that the market is poised to return to growth," said Anthony Scarsella, research director for Client Devices at IDC. "Economic uncertainty tends to compress demand at the lower end of the market, where price sensitivity is highest. As a result, low-end Android is witnessing a crunch weighing down overall market growth," said Nabila Popal, senior research director for Worldwide Client Devices. Samsung ( opens new tab saw the highest growth, with shipments increasing 7.9% to 58 million units in the quarter. Apple roughly maintained its market share as the second-top smartphone seller, with a growth of 1.5% in shipments. IDC had in May slashed its 2025 global smartphone shipment growth forecast to 0.6% from 2.3%, citing tariff-driven economic uncertainty and a pullback in consumer spending. GRAPHIC

iPhone trick that can make your battery last much longer
There's nothing more frustrating than your phone's battery dying on you just when you need it most. But there is one little-known trick that could keep your iPhone alive for much longer. And it will be especially useful for people who are in lots of group chats. All you need to do to boost your device's longevity is to place it face down when it's out of your pocket or bag. Placing your iPhone face down on a surface prevents the screen from lighting up every time you get a notification. The phone will still vibrate or make a sound when you receive a notification, but the screen won't wake up and drain your battery. This feature, called Facedown Detection, was introduced in 2015 with iOS 9, and uses ambient light and proximity sensor to make the screen go black based on surrounding light levels. This is the same technology that turns your screen off when you hold it to your ear so you don't accidentally hang up during a phone call. The screen lighting up is one of the biggest draws on your phone's battery life. So, if you want your phone to last as long as possible, it's important to reduce this to a minimum. Even though an individual notification only lights the screen up for a second, over time, this can mean your phone is on for a much longer period. A 2023 study conducted by Common Sense Media found that about half of girls aged 11 to 17 receive over 230 notifications a day. Some teenagers in the study received up to 5,000 notifications in a 24-hour period. That means your phone screen can end up being on almost constantly, draining a lot of power. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't have any way of preventing the screen from waking up when it receives a notification. Other than turning your iPhone face down, the only other option is to limit the number of push notifications you receive. You can either do this by placing your phone on Do Not Disturb and stopping all notifications, or changing individual apps' notification settings. To do this, go into Settings on your iPhone, select 'Notifications' and then select an app's icon. From here, you will be able to prevent the app from sending notifications by turning off 'Allow Notifications'. Alternatively, you can minimise how often you get notifications by scheduling a notification summary. This will send you a collected summary of any notifications that would have appeared before a set time. To do this, go to the 'Scheduled Summary' tab under notification settings and turn on Scheduled Summary. Tap 'Continue', select the times you want to receive the notification summary, select the apps you want to be included, and then select 'Add Apps'. Now, when your iPhone is set to 'Focus' mode, all notifications will be delayed until the scheduled summary to prevent you from being interrupted. If that still isn't keeping your battery from draining, you could also try turning off location services. This is because your GPS hardware requires more battery to run and its impact can often depend on the strength of the signal and the location's accuracy. For example, if you're using Google Maps to share your location with someone else, the app is likely to be accurate, causing more drainage on your battery. It's therefore advised to turn off your location when you're not using it by heading to the privacy and security section in settings and clicking on 'location services' where you can turn the feature off.

Bitcoin surges past $120,000, riding momentum in D.C. and markets
The value of a single bitcoin surpassed $120,000 early Monday, the latest record price for the digital token that has set multiple all-time highs in recent weeks amid bullishness about developments on Capitol Hill and concerns about inflation and the U.S. dollar's declining value. Because it remains prone to large price swings, bitcoin's trajectory tends to track that of riskier assets like tech stocks — although it has outperformed those soundly in 2025. Year to date through Friday, only gold — up 27.7% — has outperformed bitcoin, up 25.9%. By comparison, the tech-focused Nasdaq 100 index has gained 8.7%, while the broad S&P 500 has climbed 7%. Early Monday morning, the nearly 20 million individual bitcoins in existence are worth a combined $2.4 trillion, making the entire asset class the world's fifth-most valuable, surpassing Amazon and closing in on Apple, according to crypto news site Apple had a $3.1 trillion market valuation as of Monday morning. Most of this year's gains have come in the past few weeks. They've been fueled by a host of factors, including the partial pause in President Donald Trump's trade war and the passage of his tax cut and spending bill, which, on balance, cuts taxes while also increasing the U.S.'s debt — both bullish for increased bitcoin investment. The dollar's declining value relative to other currencies has also made bitcoin a more attractive asset to own as a hedge among international investors against potential changes to the dollar's status as reserve currency. Finally, there's been increased interest among large financial firms in crypto thanks in part to crypto-focused legislation. Indeed, the GOP-led House of Representatives has declared this week 'crypto week' as it takes up three different bills related to regulating digital assets, including the GENIUS Act, which would clarify how companies can issue their own digital tokens. According to Reuters, Democrats — many of whom remain opposed to making crypto more mainstream — are expected to offer several amendments to the bills, though it was unclear whether any would be successful. Crypto's recent uplift has added some $620 million to Trump's estimated net worth, Bloomberg reported earlier this month. Some Democrats see those gains as reason enough to oppose legislation that would pave the way for wider crypto adoption. 'These bills would make Congress complicit in Trump's unprecedented crypto scam,' Rep. Maxine Waters of California, the top Democrat on the House financial services committee, said in a statement. There's debate about how much higher bitcoin will go the rest of the year. Its trajectory remains strongly tied to the outlook for global interest rates. When these are relatively lower — as they have been recently — there's more money available to purchase riskier assets like bitcoin. But with developed economies that have historically kept government spending in check now set to increase funding, interest rates are likely to begin ramping up in response to inflation concerns, "The risk that central banks shift focus back to the risks of re-accelerating inflation may develop into a potential headwind for Bitcoin in the latter half of the year," Matthew Weller Global Head of Research at said in a note published earlier this month, "especially with fiscal policy (government spending and tax cuts) becoming more accommodative."
