Bengals' Zac Taylor drags Joe Burrow down in QB-coach NFL rankings
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, however, is not a top-five coach in the NFL right now.
So says new rankings from Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame, which aims to list the best quarterback-head coach duos in the NFL. Burrow and Taylor land just inside the top 10 at No. 9 overall:
'The Bengals might not have much defense, but they employ a good coach and a top-five quarterback. Burrow, the former No. 1 pick, had his best season in 2024, throwing for league-bests with 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns to help Cincinnati stay in playoff contention until the final day. With Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins signed long-term, expect more fireworks for years to come.'

The problem, as one should expect, is Taylor. Burrow is fourth in his respective rankings, while Taylor is 16th.
It's a fair assessment, at least, as the debate continues as to whether Taylor should be on the hot seat and just how much leash the coaching staff should have on the goodwill of the recent Super Bowl appearance.
For now, the Bengals will be more than happy to charge forward with a tandem that lands in the top 10 alongside the likes of Kansas City, no matter how lopsided the scale.

Florio is right about how real teams and real reporters choose their words wisely - and the reason is not because "everybody is a liar.'' This is a never-say-never league. Most trained and experienced reporters recognize that and therefore wisely leave ajar the door in the event of change. Advertisement That's an ancient art now in the world of clickbait journalism, where headlines must be forceful and loud and definitive ... even if the reporter's information isn't definitive at all. There is no reason to think the Pittsburgh media is fibbing about what its been told and there is no reason to think the Steelers are covering up some secret plot to trade one of their all-time greatest players. If this thing blows up, that will be driven by a number of factors. But a deceitful conspiracy won't likely be one of them. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason after a long and arduous courting process. They also drafted Ohio State's Will Howard in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft. Advertisement Rodgers is 41 years old and has an extensive injury history recently, but Howard is inexperienced and raw. Which one wins the starting job? Of course, that's a ridiculous question. Rodgers will start 2025 under center, or he wouldn't have signed with the Steelers. But that doesn't mean he'll finish it. "Aaron Rodgers is an all-time great, but he will be 42 in December," he said. "Last year, Pittsburgh gave up sacks at the 28th-highest rate, meaning they were not very good at protecting the passer. So when you have a 42-year-old quarterback, no offseason program, an offensive line that should, in fairness, be better because Troy Fautanu is coming back, I think Will Howard has a meaningful chance to be the quarterback of the future."
