Mother and three children who died after house fire named by police

Rhyl Journal25-05-2025

Nusrat Usman, 43, her 15-year-old daughter Maryam Mikaiel, 15, and two sons Musa Usman, eight, and Raees Usman, four, died at the scene of the blaze which gutted the two terraced homes in Tillett Close, Stonebridge, in the early hours of Saturday.
Two other family members, a woman in her 70s and a 13-year-old girl, were taken to hospital.
The woman has since been released, police said, but the girl remains in hospital in a critical condition.
A 41-year-old man who was arrested outside the houses has since been bailed and was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act, the Metropolitan Police said.
Superintendent Steve Allen, from the Met's local policing team in north-west London, said: 'Our thoughts go out to all those impacted by what has happened.
'Specialist officers are continuing to support the wider family who have asked for privacy at this deeply upsetting time.
'Local officers are working closely with officers from the Specialist Crime Command on what continues to be a very complex investigation.
'I'd like to thank the members of public, our first responding officers and colleagues from other emergency services for their efforts during this highly pressurised and distressing incident.
'Equally, we appreciate this has affected the wider community who have been extremely supportive. You will see extra officers in the area during the coming days and some of the cordons will remain in place.
'We are grateful for your patience and understanding. If you have any concerns then please speak to them.'
On Sunday morning, the road outside the terraced houses remained cordoned off, with two fire engines still at the scene.
Bunches of flowers and a blue teddy bear were left near to the homes and crews wearing helmets and respiratory equipment were seen building scaffolding against the burnt out buildings.
Neighbours said the family are of Pakistani origin and had lived on Tillett Close, in the Brent area, for a long time.

BA steward ‘found naked and dancing in business class toilet' after allegedly taking drugs

A naked British Airways crew member was discovered dancing in a business class toilet while on shift mid-flight after allegedly taking drugs, according to reports. The Sun reported the steward was supposed to be serving meals to passengers on a recent flight from San Francisco to London Heathrow, but had disappeared. When the double-decker Airbus A380-800 was searched, it is claimed that the in-flight crew manager discovered him naked and dancing in the Club World cabin toilet. Staff reportedly dressed their colleague in a spare pair of pyjamas used by first-class passengers before buckling him into a first-class seat, where he stayed for the remainder of the 10-and-a-half-hour trip. The Metropolitan Police said a 41-year-old man on a flight from San Francisco to London Heathrow Airport was arrested on suspicion of being unfit for duty. The force said officers were called by cabin crew over concerns for the welfare of a man just after 9.30am. When the plane landed, he was taken to hospital for treatment, before being arrested and later released under investigation as enquiries continue. British Airways told The Independent the incident is a matter for the police. The Met said in a statement: 'At 9.32am, police based at Heathrow Airport were called by cabin crew following the concern for welfare of a man on an inbound flight from San Francisco. 'A 41-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment once the flight had landed. 'Officers arrested the man after he received medical attention. He was arrested on suspicion of being unfit for duty. He has since been released under investigation. 'Enquiries remain ongoing into the circumstances, and an investigation has been launched.'

YouTuber arrested after targeting councillor with racial abuse

A MAN who runs a podcast and YouTube channel has been arrested after he sent a councillor racist abuse online. Labour Councillor Dr Soryia Siddique, who represents Glasgow Southside Central, was subjected to racist and Islamophobic abuse online last week after she spoke about why she entered politics. Siddique faced a barrage of online abuse following her appearance in a video for the campaign group, ElectHer, which aims to help women get into politics, according to the Sunday Mail. According to the paper, some of the Labour councilor's comments were picked up by online trolls after a video was made specifically targeting Siddique. Siddique (below), who was elected in 2012, also reportedly spoke about the challenges of being a woman in politics and her passion for the job, which were not commented on. (Image: Sourced) The podcaster and YouTuber Craig Houston, who has an online following of several thousand people, has now been arrested and charged by police. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'A 52-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a report of an online communication offence. 'He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.' A Glasgow Labour spokesperson told the Sunday Mail: 'We understand the content of these videos is under police investigation and an individual has been charged.' The online abuse aimed at Siddique came in the same week Nigel Farage was accused of racism after his party made a Facebook advert attacking Scottish Labour's leader Anas Sarwar (below). The video claimed Sarwar would 'prioritise' the Pakistani community in Scotland, as it plays clips of the politician urging more people from South Asian backgrounds to get involved in politics.

Police releasing Liverpool suspect's ethnicity was a sign of the times

Before any details of the driver of the vehicle were made public, I must admit my mind went back to the heinous attack on young girls at a dance class in nearby Southport, which of course led to three of them losing their lives. We all know what happened after that due to very malicious misinformation posts on social media, many of them deliberately so. This whipped up a modern version of the old pitchfork mobs of history. Many participating were totally frenzied, racist, xenophobic and particularly Islamophobic, running riot in some towns and cities, mainly in England, but none at all in Scotland. READ MORE: Man named and charged after 79 injured in Liverpool victory parade So yes, I did think to myself, 'I hope this wasn't a terrorist attack, or by an asylum seeker of colour, any Muslim, whether British or not, or basically anyone of colour.' If it had been, I dreaded to think what the consequences might have been for all these folk in England. Clearly the authorities thought the same, and the police quickly made a statement that the alleged perpetrator was white and lived locally, and that they were not treating it as a terrorist incident. Prior to this information there was still the usual malicious misinformation online, but the speed of the announcement seemed to quell any further problems. I thought about the gripping fear these folk I've outlined must have experienced at the time, particularly the ones directly affected by last summer's race riots. Also, I could almost hear a massive collective sigh of relief that the alleged perpetrator was white! READ MORE: Children among 50 injured in Liverpool parade car crash But hang on, this situation is utterly grotesque! Obviously there are wicked folk throughout the world of all creeds and colour, but you would never blame all the apples for one bad one. Well, not if you are white, of course! The implication of what happened after the Southport attack is that many folk, whipped up into a frenzy not only by extreme right-wing agitators online and in communities but by far too many democratically elected politicians, are more than willing to mete out their righteous (as they see it) revenge on all individuals of colour. We now have our very own topical story in Scotland in this respect. The recent Reform UK political advert which totally twisted comments made by Anas Sarwar was blatantly racist and John Swinney quite rightly agreed with this, as I would along with many right-minded folk. READ MORE: Reform UK spend thousands more on 'racist' Anas Sarwar advert Anas had stated: 'The days where South Asian communities get to lead political parties and get to lead countries is now upon us' (I'm sure oor very ain Humza Yousaf agrees with this too!). However, Reform UK twisted this into a suggestion that Anas would prioritise Pakistani people and that only Reform UK would prioritise the people of Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse (ie in the upcoming by-election). Such twisting of the facts by political parties – which could well lead to folk in the Pakistani community, not only in the Hamilton area but throughout Scotland, receiving abuse directly related to this and even worse, possibly physical harm – is just beyond the bloody pale! Why it isn't some sort of criminal offence is beyond me! Returning to my original point, aside from those directly involved, probably not a single white person in the whole of the UK will suffer as a result of the recent attack in Liverpool. What would have been the backlash if he hadn't been white though, and particularly if he had been a Muslim? What very dark times we live in! Ivor Telfer Dalgety Bay, Fife
