BBC W1A sequel with Hugh Bonneville confirmed after 8 years

In the six-part mockumentary series, Bonneville will reprise the role as he takes on a new title, the BBC's director of integrity for the World Cup.
Following rumours last year, the broadcaster announced the news fans have been waiting for in a mock press release, stating Fletcher's latest appointment as Director of Integrity at the global football tournament.
The character was first introduced in 2011 series Twenty Twelve, which followed an organising committee for the London Olympic Games and later inspired W1A in 2014.
Is there a follow-up to W1A? Find out what Twenty Twenty Six is about
The BBC shares: 'Having previously held a leadership role on the London Games of Twenty Twelve and a spell in W1A as the Head of Values at the BBC, Ian Fletcher (Hugh Bonneville) is now bound for the greatest stage in world football.
'Next year's tournament will be the biggest ever. Hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico with 48 countries taking part and 16 venues thousands of miles apart across the whole of North America; what could possibly go wrong? Ian Fletcher is about to find out, as he joins the Twenty Twenty Six Oversight Team in Miami as its Director of Integrity.'
When does Netflix release shows?
Character Ian Fletcher said: "I'm thrilled at the prospect of joining the Oversight Team in Miami for this unique event. And in terms of the Integrity role, to borrow a soccer analogy, this is a rare opportunity to set out your own goals and then score them on the global stage.'
W1A sequel Twenty Twenty Six cast list revealed
Bonneville's character will join the Twenty Twenty Six Oversight Team in Miami, with a cast including The Day Of The Jackal's Nick Blood, Fresh Off The Boat star Chelsey Crisp and Designated Survivor's Paulo Costanzo.
Stephen Kunken, best known for playing Ari Spyros in Billions, also joins the cast alongside The Inbetweeners' Belinda Stewart-Wilson.

Rangers set to offer star man bumper new deal as Russell Martin plans to build team around fan favourite

The Belgium international cost £1.75million when arriving from Standard Liege in January 2023 and his value is soaring. Both sporting director Kevin Thelwell and the club's new US owners are determined to construct a far better transfer model. And they recognise there's a need to protect the club's interests while rewarding Raskin with increased terms. SunSport understands Thelwell is keen to tie down the 24-year-old for longer — and ensure any club coming in with bids know they'll have to be serious with their offers. Discussions have yet to kick off, but they are on the agenda. There is a belief the player is happy at Gers and open to agreeing an extended stay. News on Raskin came as Martin completed his first signing with a season-long deal for Bournemouth's Max Aarons. The clubs reached agreement last night for the 25-year-old defender but it's been reported there ISN'T a clause allowing for a permanent move. Aarons managed only four appearances for the Cherries last season before going on loan in January to La Liga outfit Valencia where he played five games. Rangers star Nicolas Raskin spotted at Disney World - before Wag turns trainer by putting him through his paces SunSport revealed Martin's interest in the full-back, a former England under-21 ace, at the start of the week. Now it's believed he's homing in on the signing of Peterborough United attacker Kwame Poku, 23, who is out of contract but will cost a cross-border fee in the region of £350,000. Having the ambitious Raskin put pen to paper would be welcomed by the supporters and viewed as a statement of intent equal to a new signing. Originally signed by Michael Beale, the tenacious Raskin was one of few stand-out performers in a trophyless 2024-25. He captained Gers to a remarkable 3-0 victory over bitter rivals Celtic in January. He then brilliantly opened the scoring in a 3-2 win over the champions at Parkhead in March. Even more impressively, Raskin is now beginning to establish himself as a key part of Belgium boss Rudi Garcia's plans. In World Cup qualifying earlier this month, Raskin shone in a 1-1 away draw against North Macedonia before proving a super sub in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Wales. Gareth Bale consortium in bid to buy Cardiff

The 35-year-old former Real Madrid and Wales forward was understood to be part of a consortium that had conversations regarding a takeover of Plymouth earlier this week, along with several other clubs, but it appears they have now turned their attention to south Wales. The Athletic reports that the consortium sent current Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan a letter of intent last month, which included financial figures, but it was rejected. Bale is seeking to be the latest big sporting name to be associated with an EFL club. His former Real team-mate Luka Modric became an investor in and co-owner of Championship side Swansea in April, while ex-NFL quarterback Tom Brady has a minority stake in Birmingham. Cardiff declined to comment on Friday night. Bale retired from football in January 2023 at the age of 33. He won five Champions League titles with Real and is the men's all-time record goalscorer for Wales with 41 in 111 caps. He was linked with an emotional move to Cardiff, his hometown club, after leaving Madrid in 2022 but instead joined MLS side LAFC. Bale featured for Wales at the 2022 World Cup – their first appearance at the global finals since 1958 – and at the Euros in 2016 and 2020. Cardiff were relegated to League One last season and appointed Brian Barry-Murphy as their new manager this week.
