Boy, 17, arrested in Lincoln after Nottingham stabbing
Det Insp Lisa Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said officers were appealing for witnesses or anyone with information."This would've been a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who was left with multiple stab wounds," she said."He was left with nasty, life-altering injuries that required surgery as a result, although thankfully they weren't even more severe."

Disturbing sight leaves Aussies speechless during work commute in Melbourne: 'Wow'
Disturbing footage captured the moment a woman injected herself with drugs in broad daylight in front of passersby. A stunned motorist recorded the unbelievable act unfold outside the Nando's on Clarendon Street, in South Melbourne, on Tuesday morning. The woman squatted behind a car parked on the side of the busy road with her sleeve rolled up and a needle in her arm. She appeared unbothered as motorists drove past her on their morning commute to work. The woman finished shooting up, looked around, and then began to collect her things before leaving the scene. The footage was shared to TikTok along with the caption: 'South Melbourne - who needs coffee.' Social media users were left completely speechless by the video. 'Wow,' one wrote. Another added: 'Sad.' The unsettling footage comes just months after a passenger was spotted openly smoking a 'crack pipe' on a packed tram during rush hour in May. The man brazenly lit up the contraband on the 58 tram line headed to West Coburg, a northern Melbourne suburb. Many of the passengers around him were children. A report released in October 2024 showed that 547 Victorians died from drug overdoses in 2023. Men are on average twice as likely as women to die from overdose, and people aged between 35 and 54 are most at risk. Metropolitan Melbourne accounts for approximately three-quarters of overdose deaths. The figures, released by the Coroners Court of Victoria, has barely budged from the 550 overdose deaths recorded in 2022, which was the highest annual number in the past decade. In 2023, the drug contributing to the most overdose deaths was the sedative diazepam - commonly marketed under the brand Valium - which accounted for 213 deaths, followed by heroin (204), methamphetamine (164), alcohol (153) and the painkiller pregabalin (78) which is marketed under Lyrica. The annual number of methamphetamine-involved overdose deaths in Victoria more than tripled between 2014 and 2023 from 53 to 164 deaths. The percentage of these deaths that involved methamphetamine alone was 15.5 per cent while 84.5 percent involved other drugs. Judge John Cain, the Victorian State Coroner said: 'It is deeply troubling that 547 Victorians lost their lives to overdose last year. 'These deaths are preventable and we must strengthen our public health response and increase access to supports and treatment. 'Drug-related harms are complex and are driven by a variety of factors including changes in drug use, availability and regulation. 'That is why coronial data is so integral to understanding how best to target resources and save lives.'

Two jailed after being caught red-handed with firearm and ammunition
Two men who were 'stopped and caught red-handed' by armed gardaí with a firearm and ammunition during a raid, have been jailed at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Michael Simpson (36) of Rowlagh Avenue, Clondalkin, and Declan Coulahan (46) of Drumcairn Parade, Tallaght, Dublin, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a firearm and one count of possessing ammunition on December 17th, 2024, at Simpson's home address. Advertisement Simpson also pleaded guilty to possessing just under €5500 of cocaine for sale or supply and €68 of cannabis, which was found in the games room of his house by gardaí. The judge noted that there were young children living in Simpson's home where the drugs were found He has 85 previous convictions, including several for possession of drugs. He is currently serving a one-year sentence for possession of drugs for sale or supply. Coulahan has no previous convictions and was not known to gardaí prior to this incident. Passing sentence on Wednesday, Judge Martina Baxter said they were 'stopped and caught red-handed' after a number of gardaí were in vicinity. Advertisement The judge said the firearm, which was made up of two different guns, was 'a very lethal weapon and, having regard to its composite structure, it would be very difficult to find its origin.' She also noted that there were young children living in Simpson's home where the drugs were found. The judge said it was 'concerning' as the drugs 'could have been found by children'. The judge sentenced Simpson to six years with the final six months suspended. The judge gave Coulahan a six-year sentence with the final year suspended. Detective Sergeant Leo Clayton told Oisin Clarke BL prosecuting, that armed officers from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau put an operation in place around Simpson's home following a confidential tip-off. Advertisement Around 8pm on the evening in question, Simpson exited his home and got into the front passenger seat of a van, which was then intercepted by armed gardaí immediately. Simpson stepped out with his hands in the air, and both he and the driver of the van were arrested. A white Tesco bag containing a semi-automatic handgun was retrieved from the van along with bullets, which were in Simpson's pocket. The gun was 'unique' in that two firearms had been assembled into one. The van had been rented by Coulahan's employer and Coulahan was using it at the time for work purposes. Simpson made a number of admissions in interview, telling gardaí he knew he was being given the gun and that he was supposed to give it to somebody else. He said he was doing this because he owed about €20,000 for drugs and money was going to be taken off this debt if he did so. Advertisement He told gardaí he did not know what the gun was going to be used for, the court heard. He said his role was to transport the firearm and give it to somebody else. Simpson said he did not want to do it, but he told gardaí the people he was doing it for were 'dangerous people'. 'If they ask you to do something, you do it,' he told gardaí. Ireland Tipperary man raped partner and forced her to leav... Read More Dominic McGinn SC, defending Simpson, said his client has a wife and young children. He has a background in scaffolding and lost two of his fingers in a work accident, the court heard. However, Judge Baxter noted that the injury was in fact from a fireworks accident. Counsel told the court his employer said there was a job waiting for him upon his release from custody. Seamus Clarke SC, defending Coulahan, said his client has 'got to this stage without any prior convictions'. He has a partner and three children and works at fixing and delivering televisions. He had a drug addiction problem at the time and told gardaí there would be 'serious consequences' if he did not do the job. He is doing well in custody.

Two children, 10 and 11, are among four shot after gunman opened fire at recreation center in Philadelphia
Two children enjoying an evening at their local pool were shot on Wednesday when a gunman opened fire at a recreation center in West Philadelphia. There were around 75 children in the pool at the Christy Rec Center pool at around 5pm when the unidentified assailant opened fire at people standing outside, shooting four people, including a 10 and an 11 year old, Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said at an evening news conference. The two children suffered graze wounds and 'will be fine,' along with an employee at the recreation center. A fourth individual between the ages of 17 and 20, however, is in 'very critical condition' after being shot multiple times in the back. It is now believed the gunman had gotten into a fight with other individuals at the recreation center hours before the shooting, and returned to the scene with a weapon. 'It's difficult for me today because I grew up here,' Bethel said. 'This is a pool that I grew up in. I lived only two blocks away. 'This was always a safe place for us as children to come,' he added, as he expressed his shock that parents who left their children to enjoy the pool had to 'pick them up at the hospital.' Bethel then vowed to bring all of those responsible for the shooting to justice. Mayor Cherelle Parker also vowed to take action. 'I want to be very clear that our swimming pools have to be, must be and will be safe havens for our young people and families, especially as we deal with the elements of this summer,' she said. 'We've got to do whatever it takes to make sure that that is the reality that we live.' The recreation center will now be closed on Thursday, as crisis counselors meet with those who were at the scene.
