Casualty star Michael Stevenson reveals worrying Iain Dean twist

The paramedic team at Holby City Hospital in Casualty has, for many years, been a supportive and strong group. The individuals have faced challenges but the team – led by Jan Jennings (Di Botcher) – always try their best to help each other out.
The structure of Team 3006 falls apart at the start of the medical drama's latest boxset, and one of the reasons why this happens is because of Jan's opinion on young paramedic Indie Jankowski (Naomi Wakszlak).
Last Saturday, Indie drove an ambulance into the front of the ED due to the accelerator jamming. It's this, on top of Indie's confession about the burglary, that makes Jan view her in a different light as Supply and Demand begins this evening.
Iain Dean, played by Michael Stevenson, believes that Jan should move on from Indie's mistakes. He knows exactly what it's like to end up in trouble with her and more often than not, she's forgiven him.
It's the frustration Iain feels towards Jan that makes a secondment offer at Hart even more tempting. Hart stands for Hazardous Area Response Team, and involves paramedics attending dangerous environments.

Mike, who has played Iain since 2012, recently opened up about his new storyline. He told me more about Iain's offer, and what to expect as the character takes centre stage in this new mini-series.
'The offer that comes in for Hart, it sort of side-lines him a little bit and you know as much as he is happy that he's settled now and married and all that kind of stuff, you'll never take that element away from him that he is drawn to the excitement and the thrill of danger.
'He's been with Hems before, Hems is always a good shout for him to do because of the next level up of rescue that he gets to do and stuff like that, but Hart is a whole new level. That is his first temptation away from it, but then what reinforces that is the team around him that he's spent so long building and nurturing is slowly starting to fall apart and that only gets worse as things transpire after this episode.'
In a couple of weeks time, as Iain begins his training at Hart, he will receive an unexpected phone call. I'm not going to reveal the details of the call, but Michael has confirmed it will change the course of Iain's journey completely.
The latest boxset is called Supply and Demand (Picture: James Pardon/BBC)
'That completely affects him for the rest of the boxset. There's more to come on that. But that phone call again, feeds his desire to move forward with the Hart team. As much as that phone call affects him and he should be dealing with it, he shuts the call out to throw himself into Hart even more so.
'It is a coping strategy, a coping mechanism, a way of hiding from what's actually happening behind closed doors. In reality, he throws himself into Hart even more so after that call.'
A few years ago, Iain left Holby ED to join the team at HEMs. The decision came after he had struggled with his mental health and was in search of something new. Now, in 2025, it's possible history may repeat itself, as Iain starts to enjoy life at Hart as the paramedic team at Holby continues to face problems.
'It's a temporary thing at the moment but there's definitely potential for it to become more permanent. That excites him and is something that he would definitely be inclined to do really. The more fractured the team becomes, the more he gets a taste of a different side to being a paramedic. I think he would be inclined to take that on a more permanent basis, yes.'

'This boxset has been one of the most physically challenging and thrilling rides I think Iain's been on', he added.
'It's nice you enjoyed the happiness and the wedding in one episode, but we're not going to let you enjoy it for long!
'It's about what comes between the paramedics. It's about the team being fractured and how they all individually cope with it, who they side with, where's the camaraderie, where's the commitment to each other, there's lots of suspicion, lots of anger and resentment. That impacts people's lives away from work, as much as that's happening in the workplace, it affects everybody outside of it too.'
Michael remains a passionate cast member and is 'proud' to be part of Casualty. He notes that the Covid years did 'knock' the show back, but the team behind the scenes battled through the challenges and came out of it stronger than ever before.
Iain ponders over his future (Picture: BBC)
'I have seen it through various successes and then obviously the Covid years knocked us back a little bit, but again, you come out of Covid unbelievably proud of the team that we've got.
'We've pulled our audience back. A lot of continuing drama numbers have dropped over the years and never really regained, whereas we have. I think at one point we were down to something like a million, just over a million, maybe even dipped under just after Covid.
He added: 'And now we're back up to over three million a week viewers. The whole team, you look at the storylining team, the producers, the crew and everybody like that, we've done that together. The show is as strong now as what I feel it's ever been. We've had some really successful years over the past couple of years with all the BAFTAs and everything.'

Away from life at Casualty, Michael has a side hustle – a production company called Cusp Films. Their short film, called The One Note Man, stars Jason Watkins and is narrated by Ian McKellen.
In 2023, the film was nominated for an Oscar. Following the success and many award wins, Michael and his team have now started focusing on other projects.
'It's not so much short films anymore! The One Note Man did what we needed it to do and we've gone forward now. TV series development is a longer game, you have to have the patience for that sort of thing. We've stepped away from the short films now.
'The success of The One Note Man got us in a few doors and now we can concentrate on developing some bigger stuff.'

BBC Gladiators star tipped to star in Strictly Come Dancing
Former Olympian and star of Gladiators Harry Aikines-Aryeetey - better known as Nitro - is expected to appear as a contestant in the 2025 season of Strictly Come Dancing Gladiators star Nitro has been signed up to star in the 2025 season of Strictly Come Dancing. The 36-year-old, whose real name is Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, has some prior experience on the hit BBC show. He was a contestant in the 2024 Christmas special where he was paired with professional dancer Nancy Xu, 33. The pair impressed the judges are were one of the highest scoring couples, scooping an impressive 37 points for their Street/Commercial performance. The former Olympic sprinter impressed bosses who are now hoping to secure him for a full season of the long-running dance contest - which will be in its 23rd season this year. There are hopes he will be able to work around his busy schedule that relates to Gladiators - which traditionally films across the summer. While Strictly usually begins airing in August each year, the contestants are secured weeks in advance and immediately begin training in an effort to gain confidence on the dance floor ahead of the live shows beginning. A source has told The Sun: 'Bosses have been desperate to get Nitro on the series for a while. They were in talks last year but couldn't get the timings to marry up with his work." The source continues: 'He was a huge hit at Christmas prancing around in lycra and showing off his biceps. Producers were also impressed with his dancing." The source also explained that they hoped Nitro's inclusion could attract a whole new range of fans to Strictly - as bosses are hoping to capitalize on the family friendly success of Gladiators. The Mirror has contacted the BBC and representatives of Harry for comment. Strictly has continued to draw scorn and scandal in recent years after accusations of abuse by professional dancers and star signings disgracing themselves with ungentlemanly behaviour. Last year, Go Compare singer Wynne Evans raised eyebrows when he ran his hands over dancer Katy Jones. He later caused scandal during the 2025 Strictly Live Tour when crude comments he made behind the scenes were made public. Fellow 2024 star Jamie Borthwick was engulfed in scandal this month as it was revealed he used a derogatory term to describe the people of Blackpool when the BBC show filmed there. A dark cloud hovered over Striclty last year when actress Amanda Abbington made accusations she was abused by professional dancer Giovani Pernice. A BBC investigation was held while Giovanni walked away from the show while protesting his innocence. Fellow professional dancer Graziano Di Prima admitted he kicked celebrity partner Zara McDermott during rehearsals and he left the BBC show. Strictly is expected to continue this year, with judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood all set to return. It may be the final time that Craig takes up a seat at the table as he has long vowed to quit the series after he turned 60. With that landmark passed this year, some fans fear he could retire at the conclusion of the upcoming season. However, the star appeared to backtrack on his promise last year. He told The Mirror: "I have no intention of quitting because it's a fantastic Saturday job that I intend to do into my 80s, as long as I'm still compos mentis, darling! and if I haven't been cancelled before then!"

Outnumbered child star, 29, marries partner of seven years
A child star from Outnumbered has married his partner of seven years. Tyger Drew-Honey, 29, who is also known for starring in Cuckoo alongside Greg Davies, is said to have tied the knot with Fluke Chotphuang. In 2007, the actor was introduced to viewers as Jake Brockman in the BBC sitcom, which starred Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner as his parents, Pete and Sue, while Daniel Roche and Ramona Marquez played his siblings Ben and Karen. Tyger appeared on the show for seven years, later reprising the role for a special in 2016 and another last year. On Instagram, it appears as though Fluke has already adopted the Drew-Honey surname as the pair sealed their union. Tyger took to his social media page to share a number of beautiful photos from their special day. Tyger can be seen in a light blue suit alongside Fluke as they enjoy the ceremony. It is not yet clear whether his Outnumbered co-stars also attended the wedding. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Tyger was returning to our screens in a brand-new role. The actor has appeared on The Armstrong & Miller Show, Doctors, Midsomer Murders, Death in Paradise, and even Celebs Go Dating. However, four years after appearing on Grantchester, Tyger took on the role of journalist Ernest Parke in the Sky drama-documentary series, Jack the Ripper: Written in Blood. The 'bold new series' investigates the killings of Jack the Ripper and the media circus it created in 1800s London. According to the synopsis of the show, Parke led much of the press around the Ripper killings and 'theorised in the 31st August 1888 edition that Jack the Ripper was a single killer'. Last year, Tyger spoke candidly about his struggle to secure acting work after being a child star. 'I have done some good things, but then there have been times that I've worked on building sites,' he told The Sun. 'I just dream of having constant acting work, and I really hope the hype and the momentum of this special continues so that we can all have a really successful next year, because the last three or four years have been tough for this industry. 'For this to come back and give us good hope for next year, I think is brilliant, and that's what I'm hoping for anyway,' he added when promoting the latest Outnumbered special. Around the same time, he also spoke about the impact of finding fame young. 'I found it difficult at times – and I wasn't a crazy teenager – but wanting to have a drink at 17,' he shared during an appearance on This Morning. Elsewhere in the world of Outnumbered, it was revealed that Hugh and Claire – who play the couple in the TV show – married three years ago without anyone knowing. Got together when filming ended of the 2017 series, which was confirmed the following June. And after eight years together, MailOnline confirmed Hugh and Claire tied the knot in the summer of 2022 in the parish of Westminster, not once speaking publicly about their nuptials. More Trending Following last year's Christmas special of Outnumbered, Ramona – who played Karen – revealed her new venture as a tattoo artist. On TikTok, she shared that she had completed her first week as a professional tattooist at El Museo Studio in South London. This came after Daniel Roche, who played Ben, said he was getting back into acting after playing rugby for the Wasps academy. He said: 'I just want to get back into the swing of it, really. I'm not saying I want to be standing on stage with an Oscar for best actor. Ultimately, you want to spend your life doing what you enjoy, and I've always enjoyed acting.' Got a story?
