The World Cup of underrated Arsenal players
Ian Stone is joined by Amy Lawrence, Adrian Clarke and James McNicholas for a special Handbrake Off, in which the panel attempt to pick the player who has done the most for the club with the least fanfare.
Ian, Amy, Adrian, James and The Athletic's Art de Roché gave producer Jay names of the Arsenal players they believe should be in the conversation. The only names they were aware of pre-recording were those they submitted individually.

The players were drawn out of a hat in knockout competition style, going up against each other head to head being put to a vote each time.
In the spirit of the confusing Club World Cup, the tournament began with 17 names, meaning one had to be eliminated immediately. This left the panel deliberating on what it means to be underrated…
Ian: We've got to get rid of one name who we believe is so terrible that he's not underrated.
James: Or that he's too rated! It's funny because by definition the most underrated players won't be on this list.
Adrian: Well I've got to say I put Alexis Sanchez in there because I think he is much much better than he is remembered for among Arsenal supporters.
Amy: I think he's still my son's favourite player so I think he's quite highly rated in our house.
James: It's hard because 'underrated', it's all relative isn't it. You could be an average player with a lot of positive perception, it's not necessarily about you ability it's about how you're perceived.
Ian: I cannot believe Alexis Sanchez is even on the table…
Adrian: Don't get me wrong I rate Alexis, that's why I put him in there. I just don't think he's as rated among certain sections of the support, as he should be. That for me is the ultimate underrated player.

Palace named a close-to-full-strength team against Fredrikstad and Eze was the standout omission, not even included among the substitutes. Widespread reports in the British media said Eze has agreed to a transfer to Arsenal, which has moved late in the summer window for a player who was reportedly close to joining north London rival Tottenham. It would take Arsenal's spending in this summer transfer window to around 250 million pounds ($335 million). Neither Palace nor Arsenal have commented publicly on any potential deal. Eze was a youth-team player with Arsenal before being released as a teenager. He started his professional career at second-tier Queens Park Rangers before moving to Palace in 2020, where he has become one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in the league and a regular in the England squad. He played at last year's European Championship. Last season, Eze scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final as Palace beat Manchester City 1-0 to qualify for European competition for the first time. Ravens' Lamar Jackson OK after injury scare: ‘Prayers do get answered'
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Lamar Jackson is fine, and that an X-ray taken after the quarterback had his foot stepped on during Wednesday's practice revealed no concerns. Jackson exited Wednesday's practice with about 30 minutes remaining in the workout and did not practice Thursday, the team's final session before Saturday's preseason finale against the Washington Commanders. Jackson, the two-time league MVP, has not played this preseason and wasn't expected to play Saturday, even before he got banged up. Advertisement 'He got his foot stepped on like we said yesterday,' Harbaugh said after Thursday's practice. 'They did a quick X-ray, and there's no damage or anything like that. I'm sure it's a little sore today, so we just kept him in. He's going to be good.' It wasn't initially clear what led to Jackson going to the ground after throwing a pass during a full-team session late in Wednesday's practice. Two of the Ravens' offensive linemen immediately ran toward Jackson to help him up. Jackson stayed on the field for a few more plays after the fall, although he didn't look entirely comfortable. He threw a few errant passes and, at one point, appeared to be flexing his right hand/wrist. Jackson then walked inside the team facility alongside head strength and conditioning coordinator Scott Elliott. Members of the team's medical and athletic training staff joined them in the building later. Harbaugh didn't speak to reporters on Wednesday, and offensive coordinator Todd Monken said he didn't see the play where Jackson hit the ground. A Ravens spokesperson told reporters Jackson just had his foot stepped on. Harbaugh said Thursday that the clean X-ray was a 'big relief.' 'I told the guys, 'Prayers do get answered,'' Harbaugh said. WR Ja'Lynn Polk, Patriots' second-round pick in 2024, to miss season with shoulder injury
In another setback for what already looks like the biggest bust in a terrible draft class, New England Patriots 2024 second-round pick Ja'Lynn Polk is planning to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, a league source confirmed Thursday. Jordan Schultz was the first to report the news. Polk had shoulder surgery earlier in the offseason, too, but it's unclear if that was on the same shoulder as the current injury. Polk was limited to begin training camp because of the previous injury, then appeared to either reaggravate it or suffer a new injury in the Pats' first preseason game against the Washington Commanders. Advertisement It's a big blow for a wide receiver who was trying to put the woes of his rookie season behind him. Polk was drafted with the 37th overall pick last year, but had one of the least productive rookie seasons in a decade for a top-50 pick at his position. Polk finished with 12 catches on 33 targets, which he turned into 87 yards over 15 games. He also drew some frustration internally when, amid his struggles, he told MassLive that he had the 'best hands in the league.' Polk was the 10th wide receiver drafted in 2024. He finished last season 37th in receiving yards by a rookie. It continued a long trend of poor drafts from the Patriots at the position. Polk, Javon Baker, Tyquan Thornton, N'Keal Harry, Malcolm Mitchell and Aaron Dobson were all wide receivers taken by the Pats in the last 15 years with top 120 picks. None has been successful as a pro. Still, the loss of Polk for this season doesn't do much to shift the Patriots' outlook at wide receiver. They have six players who seem safely on the team entering the final preseason game: Stefon Diggs, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, Kayshon Boutte and Efton Chism III. Baker enters the preseason finale on Thursday likely on the wrong side of the roster bubble, but with a chance to make a good final impression. Polk's season-long injury could put an exclamation point on what looks like a memorably bad 2024 draft class for New England. There's a chance that Drake Maye could be the only player from that eight-person class who plays for the Patriots in 2025. Spot the pattern.
