"India is the agriculture powerhouse", Mr. Narendra Kumar, Cholamandalam Investment, at Agri Startup Festival 2.0
Kattankulathur (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 18: "Without agriculture, there is no life. By 2047, strong agriculture will be essential for national prosperity," as Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST said during 'Agri Startup Festival 2.0' conducted by SRM College of Agricultural Sciences, SRMIST-KTR, in collaboration with the Isha Save Soil Movement, hosted 'Agri Startup 2.0' on 17th August 2025.
The event provided a vibrant platform for farmers, youth, women entrepreneurs, and innovators across Tamil Nadu to exchange ideas and explore sustainable agriculture solutions.
The programme was graced by Mr. N. Selvam, Joint Director (Extension), Directorate of Extension, Department of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare, Government of India, also shared valuable insights on sustainable farming practices.
Distinguished presence included Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice-Chancellor, SRMIST; Mr. N. The Save Soil Movement, active in Tamil Nadu for nearly three decades, focuses on revitalizing soil health, improving farmers' livelihoods, and ensuring toxin-free food for all. Through initiatives like AGRI STARTUP 2.0, the movement supports the transformation of India into a nation of natural farming.
Mr. Narendra Kumar highlighted the impact of natural farming programs, "Across Tamil Nadu, we've trained farmers in sustainable techniques that improve livelihoods and provide chemical-free food. With 47 research centers and two model farms in Thiruvannamalai and Coimbatore, we demonstrate high-yield, cost-effective natural farming. Over ₹10 crore worth of produce has been sold, benefiting 11,500 farmers on 60,000 acres. By 2040, agriculture will be the cornerstone of our nation; doubling farmers' income is key to making India a true agricultural powerhouse."
Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan emphasised, "Without agriculture, there is no life. By 2047, strong agriculture will be essential for national prosperity. At SRMIST, our agricultural college, research, and startup incubation initiatives are driving sustainable farming, empowering farmers, and securing the future of food and rural development."

Guwahati: Residents of Begging Village in Siang District signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Arunachal Pradesh Government pledging their support for preparation of the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), declared a National Project by the Government of India in 2008. Indias Rs 62,000 Crore Indigenous Fighter Jet Push: Govt Clears Deal To Buy 97 LCA Tejas Mark 1A Combat Jets
In a major boost to indigenous defence manufacturing, the Government of India on Tuesday approved the purchase of 97 more LCA Tejas Mark 1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force. This decision comes at a time when the Air Force is phasing out its ageing MiG-21 fleet and playing a key role in large-scale military exercises like Operation Sindoor. The clearance was given during a high-level government meeting and will now allow Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to begin production, defence officials told ANI. Second Big Order for Tejas Jets This is the second major order for Tejas Mark 1A aircraft. The first order for 83 jets was placed a few years ago at a cost of around Rs 48,000 crore. Together, these jets will form a crucial part of the Air Force's future fleet as the MiG-21s are finally being retired in the coming weeks. PM Modi's Personal Support Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a key supporter of HAL and India's defence manufacturing capabilities. He even flew in a trainer version of the Tejas — becoming the first Indian Prime Minister ever to fly in a combat aircraft. The idea of acquiring 97 more jets was first shared by former Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, during his visit to Spain. MP to launch Rs 371 crore electronics manufacturing cluster for R&D
In a boost to India's electronics and semiconductor ambitions, Madhya Pradesh is set to establish a state-of-the-art Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) with an investment of Rs 371 crore, aimed at advancing research and development in the sector. The Government of India has granted in-principle approval for the project, which will be jointly funded by the Centre and the state government. Madhya Pradesh will contribute Rs 225 crore, while Rs 146 crore will come from the central allocation, Kailash Vijayvargiya, the urban development minister, said here on Tuesday, announcing the cabinet decision. The EMC is expected to be a transformative step for science and technology in the region, providing a dedicated platform for innovation, testing, and product development. According to officials, the cluster will include advanced facilities such as testing and calibration labs, CAD/CAM design houses, tool rooms, and EMI/EMC centres, enabling engineering graduates and budding scientists to engage in cutting-edge research. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, who has been championing the state's semiconductor and electronics policy, emphasised that the cluster will bridge the gap between academic institutions and industry. 'We have several engineering colleges, but they lack the infrastructure and mentorship needed to channel talent into meaningful innovation. This cluster will offer our young scientists the opportunity to work on real-world R&D projects,' Vijayavargiya said. Earlier during the Global Investors Summit 2025, the chief minister had said the EMC will be part of a broader push under the Madhya Pradesh Semiconductor Policy-2025, which aims to attract Rs 2,700 crore in investments over five years and generate over 14,000 jobs. The policy includes capital investment subsidies, concessional land, and power tariff support to incentivise companies to set up operations in the state. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, speaking at the summit, noted that Madhya Pradesh is emerging as a key player in India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem. With two EMCs already approved in Bhopal and Jabalpur, and over 85 companies active in the sector, the state is poised to become a hub for domestic and export-oriented electronics production. The new cluster is expected to not only strengthen India's technological capabilities but also empower the next generation of innovators with the tools, mentorship, and infrastructure needed to lead the country's digital future.
