Cognizant, Temenos team up for core banking solutions in Australia

Yahoo14 hours ago
Cognizant has entered into a five-year partnership with Temenos for the development and marketing of the Temenos Country Model Bank within Australia.
This initiative aims to expedite the implementation process for financial institutions by offering a core banking platform that is pre-configured and tailored to regional needs.
In Australia, financial institutions are grappling with heightened regulatory demands and outdated systems that hinder their operational flexibility, stated Cognizant.
Temenos Country Model Bank will harness the capabilities of Temenos' cloud-native banking solutions and Cognizant's expertise in implementation to facilitate a transition to modern banking practices.
Cognizant, designated as the preferred upgrade partner in Australia, intends to further refine the regional functionalities of the Country Model Bank to better serve the specific requirements of local financial entities.
Temenos APAC managing director Will Dale said: 'We are delighted to collaborate with Cognizant, strengthening our commitment to delivering agile and future-ready banking solutions in Australia.'
Cloud-native banking modernisation involves migrating to the cloud to improve security, scalability, and performance for Australian banks.
This approach allows for near-seamless platform updates, minimising downtime and enhancing banking reliability, according to the company.
Additionally, Cognizant is set to provide comprehensive software delivery for Temenos, managing end-to-end implementations that include consulting, integration, upgrades, maintenance, and ongoing support.
The partnership also aims to deliver market-ready core banking solutions through a pre-configured framework that aligns with the requirements of the Australian financial sector.
Cognizant Australia country manager Rob Marchiori said: 'The expansion of our strategic engagement with Temenos is set to accelerate banking innovation in Australia, integrating emerging technologies into core banking operations.
'Not only will this relationship add value for existing Temenos clients through product innovation and engineering, it is also expected to create new opportunities aligning with our strategic priority of building our banking solutions and portfolio in Australia.'
"Cognizant, Temenos team up for core banking solutions in Australia" was originally created and published by Retail Banker International, a GlobalData owned brand.

Australia's Zip soars on strong earnings, outlook, US listing plan

(Reuters) -Shares of Australia's Zip surged over 25% on Friday to hit their highest level in more than three years after the buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) company reported higher annual earnings and announced plans for a secondary U.S. listing. The company's cash earnings before taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBTDA) more than doubled to A$170.3 million ($109.38 million) in the year ended June 30, higher than a Visible Alpha consensus estimate of A$160 million. The earnings growth came on the back of strong performance of its U.S. business, which delivered a 41.6% growth in total transaction volume (TTV), driven mainly by spend on non-discretionary items. The company's net bad debts were 1.5% of TTV, down from 1.7% last year. Zip said it expects more than 35% growth in its U.S. TTV in fiscal year 2026. According to Citi analysts, that, along with an assumption of 6% revenue growth in Australia, implies cash EBTDA of A$230 million this fiscal, ahead of consensus estimate of A$215.8 million. The company also said it was considering a listing on Nasdaq, while maintaining its primary listing in Australia. "It is expected that a dual listing will support Zip's significant growth opportunity in the U.S. (which now represents over 80% of divisional cash earnings)," Zip said in a statement, adding that it had seen an increase in interest from U.S. investors. Zip shares jumped as much as 25.6% to A$3.920 by 0102 GMT, reaching their highest point since early January 2022. The stock was also the best performer on the ASX 200 benchmark index, which was down 0.3%. Zip shares have gained more than six-fold in value since the end of 2023, when reduced consumer spending, rising interest rates, and heightened regulatory scrutiny sapped confidence in BNPL stocks. Commonwealth Bank wields fresh interest rate cut following RBA decision as millions see repayment relief

Commonwealth Bank has confirmed fresh interest rate cuts for home loan customers, slashing all of its fixed-rate home loans today. Relief will start trickling in for millions of mortgage holders today as Commonwealth Bank and ANZ become the first of the major banks to pass on the Reserve Bank of Australia's August cash rate cut to customers. A Commonwealth Bank spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo Finance it would reduce its fixed-rate home loans for new customers by up to 0.45 per cent. Its new lowest fixed rate is now 5.34 per cent for its 3-year term for those paying principal and interest, which is a 0.15 per cent reduction. 'We regularly review our interest rates to ensure we're offering competitive and flexible home loan solutions,' a CBA spokesperson said. 'This change aligns with the effective date of our recently announced 0.25 per cent p.a. cut to variable home loan rates, following the Reserve Bank of Australia's 0.25 per cent p.a. cash rate reduction.' RELATED Major cash hit for millions as savings rates drop today after RBA decision Bunnings unveils new $48 million warehouse with 120 Aussie workers needed Centrelink cash boost for more than 5 million accounts in weeks Despite the rate cuts, Canstar data insights director Sally Tindall said there was still a 0.65 per cent difference between the bank's lowest fixed rate and the lowest fixed rate on the market. 'CBA's cuts to fixed rates today could be interpreted as a sign of what's to come for the cash rate, however, when you put these rates side-by-side with their variable counterparts, it's clear the bank is really just playing catch up,' she said. 'If you are looking to fix your mortgage, understand what might happen to the cash rate in the fixed rate term but most of all, spend time shopping around.' ANZ and NAB's lowest fixed rate is offered on their 2-year term at 5.19 per cent, Westpac's lowest fixed rate is also on its 2-year term at 5.59 per cent. The lowest in the market is 4.69 per cent. RBA interest rate cuts trickle through from today Commonwealth Bank and ANZ will reduce variable home loan interest rates today by 0.25 per cent, while NAB and Westpac will pass them on in the coming days on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. A borrower with a $600,000 mortgage would see their minimum monthly repayments drop by a further $89 following the change. When the February and May cuts are taken into account, the total drop would be $272. CBA and Westpac will now offer the lowest variable rates out of the majors at 5.34 per cent on their digital home loans, while ANZ's lowest will be 5.50 per cent and NAB's 5.69 per cent. The lowest variable rate on Canstar's database is 4.99 per cent, which is available from Police Credit Union for owner-occupiers with a 20 per cent deposit and Horizon Bank for eligible first home buyers. CBA, ANZ and NAB automatically keep borrowers' repayments the same, unless a customer asks them to lower it. Westpac, on the other hand, automatically drops repayments for customers paying the minimum via direct debit. Figures from CBA, ANZ and NAB found only around one in 10 borrowers had asked to lower their repayments following the May cut. Are more interest rate cuts coming? The Big Four bank economic teams still expect further interest rate relief is coming for mortgage holders. But it likely won't be a back-to-back cut, with each of the banks expecting the RBA to hold at its September meeting, followed by a cut at the November meeting. Commonwealth Bank and ANZ expect just one more cut in November, Westpac expects three more rate cuts every other meeting in November, February and May, while NAB expects cuts in November and February.
