Morocco travel advice: is it safe to visit right now?
Morocco is hundreds of miles away from both Israel and Iran, but conflict in the Middle East has raised tensions there. On June 13, after Israel attacked Iran, the UK Foreign Office updated its guidance to state: 'Ongoing hostilities in the region and between Israel and Iran could escalate quickly and pose security risks for the wider region.'
This advice remains in place after the US launched an attack on Iran's nuclear sites on June 21 and since Israel and Iran agreed a ceasefire that has held since Tuesday, June 24. The agreement followed twelve days of fighting that closed down airspace across the Middle East and disrupted flights and travel plans.
Aaprt from conflict in the region, there are other safety concerns to bear in mind when visiting Morocco. Here's what you need to know.

The Foreign Office does not currently advise against travelling to any part of Morocco, although it updated its guidance on June 13 in light of the situation in the Middle East. It stated: 'Ongoing hostilities in the region and between Israel and Iran could escalate quickly and pose security risks for the wider region. You should monitor local and international media for the latest information, be vigilant and follow the instructions of local authorities.' Although a ceasefire has held since June 24, this advice remains in place.
More generally, it states that terrorists are 'very likely' to try to carry out attacks in Morocco, noting that there is an increased threat linked to the number of Moroccans sympathetic or belonging to Islamic State and other extremist groups. Places highlighted as being at potential risk include crowded areas, government buildings, transport networks, businesses with western interests, and areas where foreign nationals and tourists are known to gather.

Morocco is far from Israel — further than Italy and Greece, for example — so geographically has not been affected by the conflicts between Israel and Hamas, Hezbollah or Iran. However, amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran, the Foreign Office recently updated its guidance to warn that hostilities could 'pose security risks for the wider region'.
Morocco signed the US-brokered Abraham Accords in 2020, normalising relations with Israel in a move to strengthen ties. However, there is also significant support for Palestinians within the country, and rallies and protests have taken place. The Foreign Office advises that visitors avoid any kind of political protests; you should stay informed by following local news, and obey instructions from security officials.

While the Foreign Office does not currently advise against travelling to any part of Morocco, it raises some general safety considerations to bear in mind.
Petty crimes such as pickpocketing, bag snatching and drive-by motorcycle theft are common in Morocco, particularly in tourist areas such as historic quarters and beaches.
There have also been occasional reports of violent crime, where weapons such as knives have been used against tourists in street attacks and burglaries. The Foreign Office advises avoiding quiet areas (especially after dark) and not carrying large amounts of cash or valuables with you.
You should also watch out for scams, which are common. These can include credit card fraud as well as bogus tour guides offering their services. If you do use a guide in the medina quarter, make sure they have an official badge.According to the Foreign Office, British passport holders do not need a visa to enter Morocco for tourism for up to 90 days (to stay for longer than this, request an extension at a local police station). Travellers visiting for other reasons should check with the Moroccan Consulate General in the UK about visa requirements.
Your passport should be valid for at least three months after the day you enter Morocco. It should not be damaged, otherwise you may be refused entry. You should also make sure your passport is stamped on arrival, or you may experience difficulties leaving.

Morocco is generally considered safe for female travellers, especially in holiday resorts. However, if you're travelling alone, you may receive unwanted attention from men. The Foreign Office advises wearing loose-fitting clothing that covers the arms, legs and chest.

I was feeling spontaneous so we literally booked the ferry to the Isle of Man an hour before we needed to leave. 'We'd never used the motorhome before, we needed to pack it up, sort Bambi, I just had this wave of 'you only live once, have a bit of fun. 'Bambi doesn't need to be so perfectly routine every day, she's not a newborn anymore. 'I've got so stuck in my ways with the fact that her routine is her routine and I don't really steer away from it. 'I'm not gonna feel bad for that because that is what works for me and that is what works for Bambi and Tommy, so that's fine.' She then added of when things started to go wrong: 'So anyway, booked the ferry, packed the motorhome up and nearly didn't make the ferry but that's another story and then there was a two hour delay. 'This ferry, which was already gonna get us in at 11:30pm, which was already severely triggering me because Bambi goes to bed at 7pm, was not fine. It was giving me a prime example as to why the routine works for us. 'It was one of those moments where strangers come up to you and are like 'can I help? Is there anything I can do?' 'She was screaming that much for four hours straight. The boat basically had a malfunction and it wouldn't move for like two hours so we had a huge delay. 'She was so, so, so overtired and overstimulated - Bambi is so routine, she is the opposite of flexible.' And when they arrived things continued to go downhill, as she said: 'We managed to get to the Isle of Man at 1:30am in the morning. 'We didn't know where we were, what we were doing, we were going to a different campsite to Tommy's family. It was just a lot. 'We had to make our bed out of this sofa, I was like 'I'm really out of my depth, I'm struggling. The next day, Bambi was so tired, she was just screaming, literally screaming, so, so unhappy. Meanwhile her sister Zoe came under fire for complaining about a recent trip too. Molly-Mae's influencer sister was recently mocked by fans for leaving Bali after just 48 hours because it didn't live up to her expectations. Instead she and her husband Danny made a last minute decision to fly to Dubai instead after Zoe, 28, took to social media to admit 'something wasn't quite right'. The fitness influencer had planned the trip to Indonesia with her husband Danny to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. And despite staying in a huge sea view room at the Radisson Blu, a five-star hotel, they decided to leave early and jet to Dubai instead. Zoe explained that Bali looks better on social media than in real life, as influencers make it look luxurious, despite it being a developing country. In a YouTube video, Zoe told the camera: 'Since landing in Bali, something for us wasn't quite right. 'We came here with high expectations because we had seen on social media that everyone was having such a lovely time. Lovely places to eat and beaches, and lovely gyms and coffee shops. 'But I don't think the reality of Bali is shown much at all, and I do think it is down to a lot of influencers posting the more luxury side of things.' She added: 'Before joining the army, I spent five months travelling South East Asia. I did Thailand, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, I did a lot and spent time in these countries. But there is something very different about Bali. 'We got told Uluwatu where we are now is one of the best places to go, so if this is one of the better places, I'm not sure where the other places are like. 'I wasn't going to sit down and say anything, but people want to know.' Danny then joined the video and said: 'You either go on holiday to travel and experience culture or you want to go away and relax.' Zoe continued: 'Yeah, and we could have got a flight tomorrow as today is our anniversary, but time is precious and we just want to get out, and why delay it. So I was delighted when I stumbled upon the entrance to one of my (now) favourite stay-cay hotels tucked down one of its iconic laneways - an even greater surprise considering it sits within a soaring skyscraper in the CBD. voco Melbourne Central impressed me from the outset. The understated alleyway entrance opens into a contemporary space with smokey-blue tones, clever design, a sparkling infinity pool and an immaculately presented breakfast buffet. Oh and the bathrooms, with floor-to-ceiling views of Melbourne's glittering skyline, are among the most striking in the country. Their secret? A focus on 'me-time' for special occasions. voco is purpose-built for staycations, offering a sense of escape from the moment you step into the lift. Despite its 252 rooms, it feels boutique - prioritising the essentials: supremely comfortable beds, excellent showers, warm and attentive customer service and memorable dining. To enhance the experience they've introduced two staycation packages for solo travellers or locals: Reset and Escape NOMO [night on my own]. Reset is about rejuvenation and features a two-hour massage and facial nearby, while Escape is culture-focused and offers a personalised itinerary of Melbourne's best shows, exhibitions and immersive activities, including tickets to the city's latest events. Both are around $500 depending on room type and availability, and include breakfast in bed, a bottle of Dal Zotto Prosecco on arrival, and a late checkout of 4pm. My favourite part was the inclusion of a self-care kit containing a Victoria's Secret Australia fragrance mist, hydrating face mask, reflection journal and curated Spotify playlist - the perfect additions to a restful night in. Bookings are available until August 31 for those looking for a cosy winter recharge. Honestly, just what the doctor ordered. The breakfast buffet was divine and laid out in a way that prevented guests from 'bunching' or feeling crowded by each other. The beloved bistro is offering guests a little Parisian flair in the form of $2 snail (and oyster) happy hour, re-imagined French classics and a 350-label strong wine list across two levels of glorious dining. Sat right above the Metro for easy access, the gorgeous escape is open breakfast through dinner, serving up mouthwatering treats like sourdough crumpets, a steak frites baguette and indulgent creme caramels. 'We knew we had something special with Loulou in Milsons Point - a place where traditional French technique meets relaxed, neighbourhood spirit,' Ned Parker, the Head Chef, says. Here they'll be offering $2 escargots, $2 oysters, a cheeseburger Royale and frites ($18), and French cocktail favorites - including $13 mini martinis, the signature Kir Royale, made with house forged dark berry cassis, plus Burgundy and house wines. Délicieuse! Aussie chef and restaurateur Luke Mangan, of Luke Mangan & Company and Luke's Kitchen, tells me all the off-duty dining haunts he's loving right now. Favourite restaurant in Sydney right now? I am really enjoying Eleven Barrack. It has a great energy, great service and a menu that is thought through, without trying too hard. You can feel the passion behind it! The most underrated hole-in-the-wall spot you've found? Kindred in Darlington is a real gem. It's a little pasta spot that flies under the radar, but the food is consistent and done really well. Your go-to coffee joint? Workshop Espresso on George Street [in the Sydney CBD]! I love the buzz, the coffee is always spot on and that little standing only table outside has a bit of history for me - it's actually where I had the very first meeting with the government to discuss closing George Street for our Long Lunches. So there is a bit of caffeine and nostalgia with every visit. Best meal you've eaten this month? I just had a great lunch at Bistro Molines. We sat outside, had a long, wine-filled afternoon. The food was bang on, as always. It is my go-to spot in the Hunter Valley. Hard to beat that produce, views and hospitality combo. Most memorable holiday meal this year? Labart in Burleigh. It was my first time there and I was so impressed. The food was full of flavour, and the service hit that perfect balance of relaxed and professional. A great example of what Queensland dining does well. The one neighbourhood favourite you'll ALWAYS go back to? Catalina is one of those places I will always go back to. I really enjoy the balcony where I normally have a glass of wine, enjoy some great snacks and take in the surroundings. It's a Sydney classic for a reason! A dish of your own that you're really excited about right now? Later this month we will be releasing a very exciting Aussie classic-inspired dessert across all of our Luke Mangan & Company venues, including Luke's Kitchen. The dessert, Luke's Golden Biscuit, is inspired by a TimTam but with a nostalgic twist. Donna Hay's life-changing cookware tip Ask anybody I've run into over the past three weeks and they'll confirm I've raved, at some stage, about my new favourite purchase: GreenPan cookware. Enthusiastically recommended to me personally by the queen of cooking herself, Donna Hay, I couldn't help but nab a 10-piece Padova set (in smokey blue) when I spotted it on sale earlier this month. In addition to being easy to clean, non-toxic (ideal given all the forever-chemical chatter of late), PFAS-free, ceramic and non-stick, they are absolutely beautiful and available in on-trend shades with sleek gold handles. My meals have never looked or (depending on who you ask) tasted better. There is something to be said for cooking on a white surface, too - it makes a huge difference. All I can say is thank you Donna. Barangaroo House has transformed into the House of Martinis for August - a buzzing, three-level celebration of the iconic cocktail (made with Grey Goose or Bombay Sapphire). Bespoke and sylish twists on the tipple (crafted by Beverage Manager, Jerom Morris) include lemon drops, appletinis, the Bond-approved Japanese Vesper and, of course, the classic porn star. Deals will be pumping all month - think $10 mini martinis served all day every day, roaming martini carts and ice luges. Love. Australia's first 25hours Hotel Sydney's Oxford Street is about to get a special new addition, with the country's first ever 25hours Hotel, The Olympia, opening on September 25. The quirky name embodies the idea that guests need more than the standard 24 hours in a day to enjoy what the hotels have to offer. Located on the heritage-listed site of the former West Olympia Theatre and the Grand Pacific Blue Room, the hotel pays tribute to these iconic establishments that once shaped the city's art and social scene.
