TRS Demands End to Operation Kagar, Calls for Peace in Dandakaranya

Hans India03-05-2025
Gadwal:"TRS Demands End to Operation Kagar, Calls for Peace in Dandakaranya".The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party Leader Nagardoddi Venkatramudu has strongly condemned the ongoing Operation Kagar conducted by the central government in the Dandakaranya region and has demanded that it be halted immediately.TRS leaders have expressed their solidarity with the tribal communities and Maoist sympathizers in the region, who they claim are facing severe repression under the pretext of counter-insurgency operations.
As part of this movement, TRS representatives announced their participation in the People's Peace Meeting scheduled to take place in Gadwal tomorrow. The party is urging intellectuals, democratic forces, and civil society organizations to come together and support this cause.
Over the past several years, military forces deployed under Operation Kagar have allegedly been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of tribal people in Dandakaranya. Civil rights activists, intellectuals, and peace advocates across the country have consistently appealed to the government to stop what they term as an "undeclared war" on India's indigenous communities.
TRS Party Chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), during a recent public gathering in Warangal on the 27th of last month, publicly voiced the concerns of the people. He declared that he would write an open letter to the central government demanding an end to Operation Kagar and calling for peace talks with Maoist groups. He emphasized the importance of considering the aspirations of tribals and respecting their struggle to protect natural resources.
According to TRS and several civil society organizations, the root cause of this conflict lies in the central government's alleged collaboration with multinational corporations to exploit the region's forests, minerals, and other natural wealth. These groups argue that tribals are being forcibly displaced and labeled as insurgents to facilitate the entry of corporate interests.
Human rights organizations have also criticized the government's use of military force, stating that the army, which should be guarding national borders, is instead being used against its own citizens in the forests of central India. They claim that the issue is not one of law and order, but a socio-economic and environmental injustice being perpetrated against tribal communities.
In light of these developments, TRS is calling on the central government to take immediate responsibility and stop the ongoing operation. The party believes that building trust with the tribal population, safeguarding their rights, and engaging in meaningful dialogue is the only sustainable path forward.
The TRS has appealed to all political parties, social activists, and public organizations to make tomorrow's peace gathering in Gadwal a grand success.

Bus service rolls into 15 remote Gadchiroli villages after decades of wait

Just days after the country celebrated its 79th Independence Day, residents of Mouza Ambezari and 14 nearby villages in Gadchiroli district witnessed freedom of another kind, the arrival of a state transport bus for the very first time. The milestone was made possible through the persistent efforts of the district police in coordination with the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC). Ambezari, nearly 100 km from the District Police Headquarters and 21 km from Katezari village, has long remained cut off from public transport. Villagers would often walk for hours to reach the tehsil or district centres. On Monday, that changed as the first ST bus entered the village, welcomed with traditional drums, dancing, and schoolchildren waving the national flag. The new service will operate on the Gadchiroli–Chatgaon–Dhanora–Yerkad–Murumgaon–Khedegaon–Ambezari–Mangewada–Jaisingtola–Malewada route, connecting over 15 villages. Officials said the bus will significantly improve access to schools, hospitals, and markets, reducing the hardships of daily travel. 'What we have been doing of late is to focus on villages that were unconnected, where buses were not reaching. People here had been demanding public transport, since most do not own vehicles and had to depend on private options. Many of these areas were Maoist-affected until just last year. Although there was a bus line earlier, it ran on a different road and left out these fifteen villages,' Superintendent of Police Neelotpal (IPS) told The Indian Express. 'People here, in the villages of Gadchiroli, look up to the police not just for security, but also as a link to government services. During our gram bhet visits, villagers share their issues, whether it's about roads, street lights, or borewells. We compile these and send them to the district collector. The demand for an ST bus came up during such visits, and we coordinated with the ST department to make it happen,' Neelotpal added. 'The turning point was the Wandoli operation in 2024, where 12 armed Maoists, including key committee members, were neutralised. That cleared the entire northern part of the district of armed presence. Once Maoism waned, people found the confidence to voice demands they had suppressed out of fear,' he said. SP Neelotpal said, 'The launch of these bus services is symbolic; it shows that Maoism is on the path of eradication. Gadchiroli is steadily moving towards development, connecting the unconnected and bringing people into the mainstream. Villagers are very happy today because they finally have a daily, affordable means of transport. This is about improving the 'ease of living' in Gadchiroli.' Neelotpal explained that the confidence among villagers to demand services grew after Maoist influence was pushed back. For instance, on January 1st, when the state Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Gadchiroli, the Gatta–Wangeturi service was launched. Roads and bridges had to be built first, something Maoists had earlier blocked. Similarly, the Katezari service also found a mention in Mann ki Baat by the Prime Minister. 'Building on that success, we extended efforts to these 15 villages,' he said. Police Sub-Inspector Ajay Bhosle, in charge of Katezari Police Station, flagged off the bus in the presence of Additional SP (Operations) M Ramesh, Additional SP (Administration) Gokul Raj G, SDPO Dhanora Jagdish Pande, and DySP (Operations) Vishal Nagargojhe and the enthusiastic villagers. Officials noted that these initiatives are part of a larger push to strengthen infrastructure in Maoist-affected tribal areas, especially the villages situated in the interior parts of Gadchiroli. Police informed in recent years, 507 mobile towers have been installed, 420 km of roads, and 60 bridges have been built under police security. Police officials said the bus service goes beyond transportation; it represents growing confidence among villagers and a step towards mainstream development.

State-Run Bus Rolls into Remote Gadchiroli After 79 Years of Independence, Connecting 15 Tribal Villages

1 2 Nagpur: Ambezhari, a remote village in north Gadchiroli, which was once a Red liberated zone, witnessed a historic moment on August 18, when a state-run bus rolled into the hamlet, for the first time since independence. The breakthrough paved the way for linking 15 villages with a population of 5,000 tribals, who were long isolated by Maoist dominance and lack of infrastructure and is located approximately 100km off the district headquarters. A year ago, in July 2024, north Gadchiroli was under the grip of four formidable Maoist dalams (formations) — Korchi, Tippagarh, Kasansoor, and Chatgaon. A daring encounter in blinding rain at Wandoli, led by the C-60 commandos, decimated four prominent 'dalams', clearing the area of guerrillas and neutralising 12 rebel cadres, including their top leaders. The bus' arrival sparked jubilation in Ambezhari. Villagers celebrated with traditional music and dance, while school students hoisted the national flag, symbolising hope and pride. The service, operating on Gadchiroli-Chatgaon-Dhanora-Yerkad-Murumgaon-Khedegaon-Ambezhari-Mangewada-Jaisingtola-Malewada route, is a collaborative effort of Gadchiroli Police and the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation and promises to ease daily hardships, improve access to education, and enhance year-round travel for residents. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Gadchiroli, a Maoist-affected district, has long struggled with poor transportation access, forcing residents to travel on foot. The Ambezhari bus service follows the successful launch of a route from Gadchiroli to Mouza Katejhari on April 26, which was highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his radio address to the nation through 'Maan ki Baat'. The new service, inaugurated by sub-inspector Ajay Bhosle of Katejhari Police Station, extends connectivity to an area 21km beyond Katejhari, further integrating remote communities. This initiative is part of broader efforts by the Gadchiroli Police to improve infrastructure and quality of life. Over the years, police have facilitated the construction of 507 mobile towers, 420 km of roads, and 60 bridges across the district. In 2025 alone, bus services were launched for the first time since independence on routes like Gatta (Jambiya)-Gardewada-Wangeturi, Katejhari to Gadchiroli, and Markanar to Aheri. The bus service symbolises more than just transportation—it represents security, development, and hope for a region once paralysed by conflict, said SP Gadchiroli, Neelotpal. Villagers, who once faced isolation and danger, now have a lifeline to essential services and opportunities. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Nepals apex court issues mandamus to investigate 2007 Gaur massacre

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 19 (ANI): Nepal's Supreme Court on Monday issued a writ of mandamus in the name of the government to investigate the 2007 Gaur massacre, one of the deadliest instances of political violence in Nepal's history.A division bench of Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Nityananda Pandey on Monday issued the mandamus directing that investigations into those named in the complaint related to the killings must per the court officials, Tribhuvan Sah and others had filed the writ petition naming the District Police Office, Rautahat and the District Government Attorney's Office, Rautahat as respondents. Sah had filed the petition on June 4, 2023, seeking a mandamus for an investigation into the massacre. The March 21, 2007, political violence that flared with the clash between the then Madheshi Janadhikar Forum (MPRF) led by Upendra Yadav and the then CPN-Maoist at the Rice Mill ground in Gaur, Rautahat, left at least 27 per the investigation reports by various human rights bodies, most of the dead were Maoist supporters. In addition to that, a hundred others were the latest order from the Supreme Court, the police are reopening the investigation into the case involving Upendra Yadav and 113 other accused to a report by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the violence began after Forum supporters vandalised a stage set up by the Maoists. The situation escalated when gunfire was reported near the municipal office, leading to widespread panic, clashes, and brutal killings. As per the report, 'Many victims were captured, beaten, and executed" in what the NHRC described as 'inhumane and cruel" acts. Some were attacked with blunt weapons, while others bore injuries to sensitive body parts. Several were even burned, and reports claimed bodies were paraded around a local temple before being left at the NHRC concluded the killings were premeditated and systematic, holding Forum cadres primarily responsible. It noted that the rights of those taken into custody were violated, stating: 'The killing of persons under control or in captivity constitutes a crime under national and international law."The on-site study of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) identified four causes of the incident. The vengeful behaviour between the then-Maoists and the MPRF, particularly stemming from an incident on January 31, 2007, in Gaur, where Maoists attacked and beat supporters and leaders of the MPRF, fostering a vengeful sentiment, has been labelled as one of the four causes for the violent clash.'MPRF had been publicizing its event scheduled for March 21, 2007, at the Gaur rice mill for 10-12 days, the Madhesi Liberation Front, a sister organization of the then-CPN (Maoist), selected the same venue just two days before the event, creating a situation for confrontation," the report highlights the second cause. The report also states that the local Chamber of Commerce had attempted to mediate by organising a meeting to avoid holding events at the same time and place, but the Maoists did not attend, and both sides ignored verbal requests from the local administration, as the third cause for the the District Security Committee's decision on March 20, 2007, to request additional security personnel, the authorities concerned neglected to deploy them, has been labelled the fourth reason for the event, which took place right after the former Guerilla group, the CPN-Maoist, joined politics, Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, 'Prachanda" at that time, blamed royalist forces, Indian extremists, and foreign reactionary powers for orchestrating the massacre. Dahal also accused state security forces of remaining passive as the violence unfolded for hours. Madhesi Forum leader Upendra Yadav, meanwhile, went underground shortly after the incident. (ANI)
