Jean-Claude Van Damme accused of sex with trafficked women in Cannes

Telegraph08-04-2025
Jean-Claude Van Damme allegedly had sex with five women trafficked from Romania at a television series launch party in Cannes, according to legal documents obtained by The Telegraph.
The Belgian martial artist and Hollywood actor is facing a potential criminal investigation from Romanian authorities after a complaint was filed to police on April 2.
Excerpts of a deposition contained in the complaint claim the women were 'given' to Van Damme, 64, at the event in south-east France in 2015.
The trafficking of the girls is said to have been organised by Morel Bolea, a Romanian suspected sex trafficker and former head of a modelling agency.
One woman who attended the event said in a written testimony: 'When we got there, we realised we weren't participating in a film festival event, but rather at the launch of a TV series starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, which was held in a hotel event room.'
She said one of the event's organisers 'took five of his girls from the Fashion TV team and sent them to Van Damme'.
Van Damme's representatives have been contacted for comment.
It is not known if he knew the girls had been trafficked.
Women's whereabouts unknown
The criminal complaint was submitted to the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) in Bucharest, the same organisation prosecuting the misogynist and alleged rapist Andrew Tate.
The current whereabouts of the women and their identities are not known.
Adrian Cuculis, the lawyer who filed the complaint, represents a separate woman allegedly groomed and trafficked by Mr Bolea when she was 15 years old.
Mr Cuculis told The Telegraph: 'They were basically offered to Van Damme … this is the allegation that Jean-Claude Van Damme used the services of one or more exploited girls.
He added: 'They were there for [sic] making sexual intercourse with this guy … if Jean-Claude Van Damme hooked up with them in the club and they went and engaged in six-person intercourse, it's perfectly fine.
'But if somebody comes to you keeping her hand in his hand and says 'OK off you go with him into the room' this means something else.
'It's a deposition stating out very clearly what happened there, and who offered the girls and what are the terms of them, the conditions.'
'Police investigation launched'
Mr Cuculis said police had already begun investigating Van-Damme as part of a wider inquiry into Mr Bolea's trafficking network.
He said: 'The [police] investigation has already been launched since Friday.
'I received a note from the prosecutor's office saying that they merged this file into the file that was opened in Morel Bolea's case and they are conducting an investigation regarding our accusations.'
A spokesman for DIICOT confirmed it had received the complaint on April 2 but made no further comment.
The complaint alleges that Mr Van Damme made 'use of services of an exploited person, an offence stipulated and punishable under Art. 216 of the criminal code, in conjunction with Art. 182 letters a), b), c) of the criminal code.'
Mr Bolea was arrested in 2022 as the main suspect in a case surrounding the exploitation of minors, Romanian news media reported. He has not commented on the allegations.
According to the Romanian prosecutor's office, from 2000 to 2016, he involved girls, including minors, in 'sexual exploitation through psychological pressure' through his organisation.

The facility, run by Europa-park, is located in Rust, Baden-Württemberg, near the French border. German police said the sick attack took place on Saturday, August 9, L'Alsace reported. After sexually abusing her, the suspect reportedly left her alone in the woods. She was then found by a local passerby around 10pm the same day. The area she was discovered in was about 5km from the water park, and she was only wearing a swimsuit. The suspect is reportedly a 31-year-old Romanian national. He was living in the local region at the time of the attack, reports say. Cops are desperately continuing their manhunt for the suspect. And they put out an appeal for any information that may lead to his arrest. I was sexually assaulted hundreds of feet in air while on paraglide ride during Tunisia holiday… I felt violated and dirty Police said: "Anyone present in Rulantica or in the wooded area north of the park on Saturday between 8:20 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. who may have noticed the presence of the man and the girl should contact the German authorities." The beloved Rulantica water park can hold a maximum of 6,000 visitors per day. It comes after there were reportedly hundreds of reports of sexual assaults in public swimming pools in Germany - in what has been called an epidemic. In one of the worst hit regions, 74 alleged attacks have been recorded recently with several involving children - including eight young girls in one day. The issue started to raise questions across Germany after a concerning number of reports were made in June. Cops arrested four Syrian suspects, aged 18 to 28, the next month and accused them of sexually assaulting up to eight girls in a public swimming pool in Hesse. The victims were aged between 11 to 16 and had all been at the Barbarossabad pool on the same day. Criminal charges were filed against all of the suspects, who were also been banned from the pool following the harrowing incident.

British designer accuses Belgian football club Beerschot of plagiarizing shirt design

Belgian football club Beerschot has issued an official statement responding to accusations of plagiarism regarding its new football shirt. London-based Diana al Shammari accused the club of copying the floral pattern. Al Shammari is known on Instagram as 'thefootballgal'. On her account, she embellishes football shirts with embroidery. She has collaborated with the Belgian Red Devils, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Adidas. Now, a similar type of embroidery has appeared on Beerschot's shirt. Al Shammari believes this constitutes copying. She commented under Beerschot's initial Instagram post unveiling the new shirt. The chief executive officer of Nova, the shirt's production company, then responded, leading to an exchange. The CEO stated that they had contacted the designer for a collaboration but received no reply. The company then proceeded independently. Al Shammari is pushing for a settlement with Beerschot and will take legal action if one is not reached. Beerschot's official statement presents a different perspective. The club states that the design was conceived entirely independently and was not inspired by specific designs from any third party. 'This shirt originated during an internal design meeting. It was inspired by Antwerp, the city's rich fashion history and renowned designers. Floral motifs have been a part of Antwerp fashion for decades. Consider the work of Dries Van Noten and other designers known globally for their floral styles.' The club also notes that the purple violet on the shirt symbolises Beerschot. 'The result is an original design, stemming from various influences and design ideas.' It is currently unclear whether al Shammari will pursue legal action, as she previously hinted, if a settlement is not reached. This article was translated to English using an AI tool. France ‘wanted its citizens to see Bayeux Tapestry for free at British Museum'

France reportedly demanded that its citizens be allowed to see the Bayeux Tapestry for free or at a discount when it goes on display at the British Museum next year. Last month, The Telegraph revealed that a deal had been reached for the 900-year-old textile artwork depicting the Norman Conquest of 1066 to be loaned to the British Museum French officials lobbied for their compatriots to be allowed to visit the London display for free, according to the Financial Times, but officials close to negotiations thought the idea was a 'try-on' and 'never going to happen'. French museums do not typically provide free entry in France itself. In return for the tapestry, George Osborne, the British Museum chairman, agreed to loan the Anglo-Saxon treasures of the Sutton Hoo burial, and the medieval Lewis Chessmen. French officials are said to have initially wanted to borrow the Rosetta Stone, arguably the most popular item in the British Museum's collection. The museum did not wish to part with the 2,100-year-old Ancient Egyptian artefact, and this idea fell by the wayside. The Rosetta Stone was discovered by French forces in 1799 during Napoleon's campaign in Egypt. It was being used by the local population to bolster a wall. The stone was seized by the British, at war with France at the time. Its inscription, deciphered by Jean-François Champollion, a French orientalist, showed scholars how to read Ancient Egyptian texts. The stone may have fitted with Emmanuel Macron's plans for the Bayeux Tapestry exchange, which is intended to demonstrate the bonds between Britain and France and a new spirit of co-operation. The tapestry is likely to bring in crowds comparable to the most popular shows in the British Museum 's history, which drew hundreds of thousands of visitors. A British Museum spokesman said: 'As our chairman George Osborne has said, this will be the blockbuster show of our generation. This is an object of such historical significance for the UK that we want as many people as possible to have the chance to see it.' The deal on the tapestry, which is to be moved next year, came after plans first announced in 2018 by Theresa May, the prime minister at the time. She hoped to secure a loan for the tapestry, but this was repeatedly put off because of concerns over the delicate condition of the embroidery and the risk of moving it.
