South Africa posted 296-8, the highest ODI total at Cazaly's Stadium, before dismissing Australia for 198 with more than nine overs remaining. Australia's chase began promisingly with Travis Head scoring 27 runs, including five boundaries in a single over against Nandre Burger, helping the team reach 60-0 in seven overs. Australia collapsed from 60-0 to 89-6, with Maharaj claiming five wickets. Debutant Prenelan Subrayen started the collapse by dismissing Head, followed by Maharaj's remarkable spell that removed Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, and Aaron Hardie. Mitchell Marsh fought back with 88 runs off 96 balls, partnering with Ben Dwarshuis for a 71-run stand. Travis Head emerged as Australia's most successful bowler, taking 4-57, including three wickets in the death overs. Ryan Rickelton and Markram provided a strong start with a 92-run opening partnership before Rickelton was caught by Labuschagne off Head's bowling for 33. Yes, they have the momentum No, Australia will bounce back Markram's innings ended in the 24th over when he edged a delivery from Dwarshuis to the keeper. Bavuma, playing his first international since South Africa's World Test Championship final victory, struggled initially but found support in Breetzke, who scored freely against Australia's spinners. The middle order saw quick dismissals as Head removed both Tristan Stubbs and debutant Dewald Brevis. Brevis managed a six off his first ODI delivery before falling to the next ball. Wiaan Mulder provided late impetus with a quick 31 off 26 balls. South Africa faced a setback before the match as pace bowler Kagiso Rabada was ruled out of the ODI series due to ankle inflammation. Kewena Maphaka, the leading wicket-taker in the recent T20 series, replaced him in the squad but didn't play in this match. The victory gave South Africa a 1-0 lead in the three-match series against Australia, who had recently won the T20 series 2-1. This was the first ODI between these teams since Australia's victory in the 2023 World Cup semifinals, as their scheduled Champions Trophy meeting in March was abandoned due to rain. Asia Cup 2025: Why is Rishabh Pant missing from India's squad?

Rishabh Pant of India (Photo by) India will head into the Asia Cup 2025 without Rishabh Pant, who has been sidelined with a fractured foot. The wicketkeeper-batsman picked up the injury on the opening day of the fourth Test against England and was forced to return home, missing the fifth Test as well. Pant is now confirmed to miss both the Asia Cup and the upcoming home Test series against West Indies. Even before his injury, Pant was not in India's immediate T20 plans. Sanju Samson has been the first-choice wicketkeeper in the format, with Pant last featuring in a T20 international against Sri Lanka in July 2024 at Pallekele. His absence has only further cemented Samson's role behind the stumps, while Jitesh Sharma has been drafted in as the second wicketkeeping option. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. He endured a forgettable IPL 2025 campaign, scoring just 269 runs at an average of 24.45 and a strike rate of 133.17. The numbers were heavily boosted by a last-match century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with the rest of the season yielding very little for his franchise Lucknow Super Giants. Poll Who should be India's first-choice wicketkeeper in T20s? Sanju Samson Jitesh Sharma In the Asia Cup squad, Samson and Jitesh provide contrasting options. While Samson has consistently opened with Abhishek Sharma for India, the return of vice-captain Shubman Gill could push him down the order. If that happens, Jitesh's power-hitting skills in the middle and lower order could come into play. The final call on who takes the gloves will depend on how the management plans its batting combinations. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

"The last time when he played T20Is for India, post T20 World Cup, when we went to Sri Lanka, not Zimbabwe. I was leading then and he was the vice-captain and that's when we started a new cycle for T20 World Cup. After that he got busy with all the Test series. He did not get the opportunity to play T20 cricket because he got busy playing Test cricket and also the Champions Trophy. He is there in the squad and we are happy to have him," said Suryakumar. The squad also features as the second wicketkeeper alongside , earning his spot after a successful IPL season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. "Post last T20WC, we spoke a lot on how to go about it. We spoke about let's not think of milestones ahead, follow your journey. Been a completely different cricketer post that. The way he performed in the IPL and domestic tournaments he played, he's done really well, has earned his spot again," Suryakumar said about Jitesh's selection. Poll How important is Shubman Gill's role in the T20 squad for India's future? Rana is likely to be a reserve option with and Arshdeep Singh expected to lead the bowling attack in the Asia Cup. It's a good tournament to test ourselves. Lot of T20s after this also. The journey starts from here," Suryakumar concluded.
