Filipinos honoured for enduring contributions to nation-building
Filipinos were honoured in a simple but meaningful celebration of the 30th National Migrant Workers day held at the University Technology Bahrain (UTB) on 7 June 2025.
The event coincided with the Special Professional Licensure Examination (SPLE), further underscoring the enduring contributions of overseas Filipino workers to nation-building and professional development.
Staged under the theme 'Bayan, Bayani, Bayanihan,' the commemorative program — attended by representatives from various professional organisations under the Philippine Professional Organization (PPO) began with an opening prayer led by Criselda Remis, setting a reflective and solemn tone for the event.
Encouraging message
Her Excellency Anne Jalando-on Louis, the Ambassador of the Philippines to the Kingdom of Bahrain, delivered an encouraging message, extending her heartfelt greetings to all Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and acknowledging the dedication and hard work of Filipino workers abroad.
She emphasised that OFWs not only enhance the welfare of their families and loved ones but also play a significant role in the advancement and growth of both the Philippines and the host country.
'Wherever you are, you're making a difference, not just to your family but to the communities to which you're giving back overseas,' stated the Ambassador.
Heartfelt appreciation
She conveyed her heartfelt appreciation for the leadership in Bahrain, highlighting the enabling and supportive atmosphere that permits Filipinos to live and work with dignity and security.
Ambassador Louis, together with OWWA and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), conveyed her gratitude for the proactive participation of Filipino community organizations in endorsing the initiatives and services led by the Philippine Embassy.
Members of the Philippine Professional Organization (PPO) were particularly lauded for assisting qualified examinees and volunteer mentors who extended their activities to hold review sessions and provided assistance to licensure examinees for both personal and professional advancement.
'You are sharing your blessings and expertise to help others succeed. I hope you continue to share your talents and uplift others on their journey,' she said.
Emphasising the event's link to a larger national celebration, Ambassador Louis remarked that the Filipino community convened for a Mass commemorating Philippine Independence Day on June 6, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church, where prayers were dedicated to the 105 examinees participating in the certification exams in Bahrain.

Focus on essential healthcare updates for Filipinos
A town hall meeting on PhilHealth services and updates took place on May 30, 2025, at the Sentro Rizal, Philippine Embassy, Manama offering essential information to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and members of the Filipino community. Among the organizations represented during the discussion were Good Cause Bahrain, led by Antonette Guese Avila; Pinay Ikaw Na (PIN), headed by its president Dinah Sta. Ana; LBC Express Bahrain, represented by Dhela Solidad; Alpha Kappa Rho International Humanitarian Service Fraternity and Sorority – Juffair Chapter; and the Filipino Writers' Circle (Filwrite) president, Cecil Ancheta. The event high lighted the government's dedication to supporting its citizens abroad by keeping them informed about their healthcare benefits. This appeal helped to highlight the ripple effect of awareness, hoping that by sharing the information, more people would be enabled to access PhilHealth effectively and appeal for their health care needs. Overseas employment Realizing the temporary nature of overseas employment, Ambassador Louis advised OFWs to regularly keep themselves enrolled in OWWA, PhilHealth, SSS, and Pag-IBIG. Foreign employment may have an advantage of being able to earn immediately, but it is also essential to spend on saving for the future. 38 Filipinos take part in baking skills training sessions
Thirty-eight Filipinos are participating in a two-Friday baking skills training initiative hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Manama, as part of the 43rd anniversary celebrations of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). The training sessions, scheduled for May 9 and May 23 at the embassy premises in Adliya, are being jointly organized by the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and community group Pinay Ikaw Na (PIN). The initiative aims to equip overseas Filipinos with practical skills and foster a stronger sense of community. Among the attendees is 37-year-old Francis Llaneta, a massage therapist who traveled from Malkiya to join the first session. 'I participated in the training because it presented an opportunity for me to enhance my skills, which I aspire to apply upon my return home,' said Llaneta, who has been residing in Bahrain for over two years, working as a massage therapist. Participants come from diverse professional backgrounds, including domestic helpers, nurses, receptionists, and sales personnel. The course covers fundamental baking techniques, essential recipes, and expert tips for creating a variety of confections. Sessions are led by professional baking instructor and entrepreneur Ivy Ancheta of IVBakes, who generously shared her expertise with the group. 'This baking training offers the participants a chance not only to learn a valuable skill, but also to network with fellow Filipinos and build a sense of community,' said Dinah Sta. Ana, president of PIN.
