Brindisi (Aletihad)Team Abu Dhabi's campaign for the UIM F2 World Championship started in the Italian city of Brindisi in a cloud of disappointment and misfortune for Abu Dhabi and Sharjah teams. For the latter, it was an agonising result because their driver André Solvang slipped from third place in the final laps, despite maintaining that position throughout most of the race. For Team Abu Dhabi, Mansoor Al Mansoori was involved in a collision with Monaco's Giacomo Sacchi on the final lap, forcing him out of contention. Reigning world champion Rashed Al Qemzi faced technical problems that prevented him from delivering his usual strong performance, and he ended the round without scoring meaningful points. In contrast, British driver Matthew Palfreyman claimed first place and earned 20 points, followed by France's Peter Morin in second with 15 points, and Sweden's Helmer Wiberg in third with 12 points. Sharjah's Solvang secured fourth place with nine points, after losing his third-place position late in the race.Abu Dhabi's Italian coach Guido Cappellini is now focusing on the team making a strong comeback in the second round of the championship, which will be held in Lithuania in July. The team remains determined to defend the world title won last season by Al Qemzi. The UIM F2 World Championship is one of the most prestigious competitions in international powerboat racing, featuring five rounds of fierce global competition. Both Abu Dhabi and Sharjah still have strong chances to rebound in the upcoming rounds.
Al Qemzi, a five-time world champion and one of the most accomplished drivers in the field, has previously recovered from slow starts to go on and win the title – keeping hopes high for a powerful return.

Tennis injuries force Britain's Edmund to retire at 30

Kyle Edmund has been forced to retire at the age of 30 after going through a turbulent few years due to injuries, the former British number one said. Edmund, who rose to a career-high world ranking of 14 in October 2018 after winning his maiden ATP Tour title in Antwerp, also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open that same year, becoming the second Briton since Andy Murray to achieve the feat in the Open Era. His second ATP title came at the 2020 New York Open. However, injuries derailed his career, forcing him to undergo knee surgeries in November 2020, March 2021 and May 2022. He also struggled with wrist, abdominal, hip and foot injuries. "To look at the journey and try and bite size it as much as possible is hard. It just felt right with things and my injuries in the past," Edmund posted on social media on Monday. View this post on Instagram A post shared by LTA (@lta) "Especially around 2020, 2021, I had three surgeries and I spent four or five years trying to come back and had ups and downs along the way." "But (I) never (was) fully able to get back to maybe my goal and my target. That was the main reason for the decision, but over the next weeks and months, it'll be a nice time to reflect, do different things, spend more time at home with family and just sort of appreciate the journey," he added in his announcement. Edmund most recently reached the final of an ATP Challenger Tour event in Nottingham in June.

Alcaraz wins Cincinnati Open

World number one Sinner came into the final feeling unwell and lost the first seven points of the match before throwing in the towel at 5-0 down in a game played in 30-degree Celsius heat. Sinner will now focus on recovery with the US Open starting on Sunday. The Italian is due to take part in the US Open's revamped mixed doubles on Tuesday, but his participation in that draw is now in serious doubt. "I'm disappointed, I didn't feel great from yesterday," Sinner said afterwards. "During the night, I thought I would recover a bit better, but it was not the case. "I just tried to go out for the fans, trying to give (them) a match - that's the reason why I went on the court. "But it was not meant to be for me today. But I don't want to take anything away from Carlos. He had a great week, great, great tournament again." Sinner said he is now pointing to the final Grand Slam of the season. "The main focus, obviously, is for the US Open. Recovery is the most important. And then we see," he said. Despite the temporary health setback, Sinner is pleased with his showings in 2025. "I feel like it's an incredible season," he said. "We'll keep going, keep pushing. I have some points to improve if I want to go far in US Open. "It was a good test this week, trying to understand where my level is." Sinner lasted for just 22 minutes, calling for the doctor after losing the fifth game and shortly after going to shake hands with Alcaraz.
