UAE coast guard evacuates 24 from oil tanker crash near Strait of Hormuz

The Emirati national guard said it evacuated 24 people from an oil tanker Tuesday after a collision between two ships just east of the world's most critical oil chokepoint, the Strait of Hormuz.
The crude oil tanker, ADALYNN, was bound for Egypt's Suez Canal when the crash in the Gulf of Oman happened. Nasa FIRMS satellite data showed heat signatures in the area early morning.
The United Arab Emirates national guard said it deployed its coast guard's search and rescue boats to the site, 24 nautical miles off the country's coast, and that the crew was evacuated to the port of Khor Fakkan.
The strait is the strategic maritime entryway to the Persian Gulf and sees about a fifth of the world's oil pass through it, according to the US Energy Information Administration. In 2024, an average of 20 million barrels of oil travelled through it daily.
After Israel launched airstrikes against Iran on June 13, worry mounted over whether the Islamic Republic might block the waterway.
Maritime ship experts say shipowners are increasingly wary of using the waterway, with some ships having tightened security and others cancelling routes there. As the Israel-Iran warfare intensified over the weekend, hundreds of ships in the strait saw spotty navigation signals and had to rely more on radar, though it wasn't immediately clear what caused Tuesday's incident.
The Financial Times reported Friday that the world's largest publicly listed oil tanker company, Frontline, said it would turn down new contracts to sail into the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz after the Israel-Iran conflict broke out.
Meanwhile, oil prices continued to climb as US futures were lower Tuesday morning after Israel's military issued an evacuation warning to 330,000 people in Iran's capital, Tehran.
Tuesday's rescue came less than two weeks after the UAE national guard airlifted an injured man from an oil tanker to an Emirati hospital.

Designed to cultivate both cultural awareness and future-ready skills, the initiative brought together students, experts, and community elders in a collaborative learning environment aligned with the UAE's 2025 Year of Community. A camp rooted in culture and innovation Held at the ECAE FabLab, the 2025 summer camp welcomed students aged 12 to 17 under the theme 'Bridging Generations: Honouring the Past, Innovating the Future.' The programme was organised by ECAE's Continuing Education Centre as part of its wider educational mission and community engagement efforts. The theme reflected the camp's central goal: to help young participants explore the UAE's cultural traditions while engaging with the tools and technologies shaping tomorrow. The camp was delivered in two separate cohorts to allow for more flexible participation: Cohort 1: 14–25 July Cohort 2: 28 July–8 August Over the two-week sessions, students participated in a mix of traditional craft activities and digital fabrication workshops, all designed to offer practical and creative learning experiences. Blending hands on learning with cultural storytelling Participants were introduced to a wide range of digital tools, including: Laser cutters Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications Using these technologies, students learned how to reinterpret traditional Emirati patterns into modern digital designs, bridging past aesthetics with future innovations. Working in small, collaborative teams, the students engaged in group projects that emphasized problem-solving, teamwork, and creative thinking. Each day featured a structured schedule of expert-led sessions, covering both: Traditional Emirati crafts , guided by specialists and cultural educators Digital fabrication skills, taught through practical tutorials In addition to technical and craft-based learning, the programme placed a strong emphasis on intergenerational dialogue. Students took part in cultural storytelling sessions where community elders shared personal stories and heritage insights. These interactions aimed to deepen the students' connection to their own cultural roots and foster a sense of identity and belonging. Culmination in a community showcase A highlight of the summer camp was the final showcase event, where participants presented their completed projects to: Fellow students Parents and family members Special guests from the community This event not only celebrated the students' achievements but also reinforced the camp's themes of community involvement, cultural pride, and creative innovation. The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority served as the official partner for the cultural component of the camp, providing support and expertise for the traditional workshops. Longstanding commitment to youth and lifelong learning This summer programme continues the mission of ECAE's Continuing Education Centre, which has been active since 2014. Over the past decade, the Centre has: Delivered approximately 344 programmes Reached more than 7,000 children Supported the broader goal of promoting lifelong learning in the UAE Speaking on the importance of the initiative, Dr. May Laith Al Taee, Vice Chancellor of ECAE, noted: 'Bridging generations through education is essential for building a cohesive and forward-thinking society. By integrating heritage with innovation, this summer camp provides students with the skills and experiences they need to contribute meaningfully to their communities and honour the UAE's rich cultural legacy.'

Gentari ties up with UltraTech Cement to launch Hybrid RTC renewable energy project

Clean energy solutions company, Gentari , on Monday announced its partnership with UltraTech Cement Limited to fully operationalise the Hybrid Round-The-Clock (RTC) renewable energy project. According to the press release, the 7.5 MW facility is located at UltraTech's Sewagram Cement Works in Gujarat. It integrates solar, wind, and a battery energy storage system on a single site, designed to provide consistent and reliable green power to the integrated cement manufacturing unit. 'This project wasn't built in isolation—it was co-created with our customer UltraTech to deliver a solution that is not only sustainable, but operationally viable at scale,' said Sharad Pungalia, Country Head of Gentari India. By combining multiple renewable sources, the facility is engineered to overcome the intermittency challenges often associated with clean energy, ensuring a steady power supply, he added. The facility showcases advanced renewable technology, featuring bifacial solar modules with trackers to maximise solar energy generation, alongside wind turbines and a battery storage system. This integrated configuration demonstrates how clean energy systems can be meticulously engineered for performance, not just production, according to the company.
