Phillies' Rob Thomson Optimistic Amid Losing Streak, 'Just Gotta Keep Grinding'
Phillies' Rob Thomson Optimistic Amid Losing Streak, 'Just Gotta Keep Grinding' originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Philadelphia Phillies are in the middle of a losing streak following their defeat to the Pittsburgh Pirates. After May got off to a great start, the Phillies dropped the final three games of the month. Into June, the Phillies have won just one game in their last five.

On Phillies Postgame Live from NBC Sports Philadelphia, after the loss to the Pirates, Phillies manager Rob Thomson expressed optimism amid the team's current losing streak.
"Just gotta keep grinding," Thomson said. "In a little bit of a funk right now, but gotta keep grinding through it."
Following the loss to the Pirates, the Phillies sit at 37-26, in second place in the National League East, and 2.5 games behind the New York Mets. The Phillies' offense has scored 295 runs, 11 more than the Mets, while their pitching has allowed 278 runs, 67 more than the Mets.

What was supposed to be a strong suit for the Phillies has turned into the reason for their struggles. Jesus Luzardo's past two starts, allowing 20 earned runs combined, have put the Phillies back significantly. The bullpen has blown a few games, and let games get out of hand often this year.

When the pitching is humming, the defense will often crumble, or the offense will struggle to knock in baserunners. It's been a season where the Phillies haven't put together a strong winning streak against teams that aren't below .500.
Against teams that are above .500, the Phillies are 16-18, losing record. The losing streak and recent slide have been tough for the Phillies. But Thomson sees a path forward.
With two more games against the Pirates and a series against the Mets near the end of June on the horizon, the Phillies still have plenty of time to turn things around. Thomson believes in the team and thinks that despite the funk, the team can get through it and come out strong on the other side.

Braves React to Ozzie Albies' History Amid Season
Braves React to Ozzie Albies' History Amid Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Atlanta Braves made history in Milwaukee, not just because they snapped a seven-game losing streak or because Chris Sale struck out seven batters. Advertisement Yes, both of those things happened during Atlanta's 7-1 win, but the most memorable moment came from second baseman Ozzie Albies. Albies picked up two hits, scored a run, and in doing so, notched the 1,000th hit of his Major League Baseball career, a rare milestone few players ever reach. Following the game, the Braves celebrated their veteran infielder's achievement on social media with a simple but powerful message: "History made: 1,000 hits and counting." Albies' first hit of the night, and the 999th of his career, came in the sixth inning with a one-out single to left field. He was left stranded that inning. Then, in the eighth, he singled to left again to reach 1,000 hits. Teammate Eli White followed with a home run that scored Albies and extended the Braves' lead to 7-1. Advertisement The 28-year-old from Curacao has had a slow start to the 2025 season. Through 65 games and 250 at-bats, he's batting just .236, currently a career low. He's hit six home runs and driven in 24 runs so far this season. Ozzie Albies of the Atlanta BravesBrett Davis-Imagn Images In 2024, Albies dealt with injuries and was limited to just 99 games, though he still managed to collect 100 hits. Since signing with Atlanta in July 2013, Albies has spent his entire career with the Braves. Albies has built an impressive resume, including three All-Star selections, two Silver Slugger Awards, two All-MLB Second Team honors, and a World Series title from 2021. Ozzie Albies now ranks 50th on the all-time hit list among active MLB players. He trails Tommy Pham by 15 hits for the 49th spot. Just ahead in the chase are Cody Bellinger, who sits at 999 hits, and Juan Soto with 991. Advertisement Despite the win, the Braves have struggled overall. Heading into Tuesday, they sat at 28-37, placing them fourth in the National League East and 13.5 games behind the division-leading New York Mets. While Albies' personal milestone was a bright spot, the Braves will need more than individual achievements to turn their season around.
