PM recalls Madhubani pledge to hit terrorists

Time of India4 days ago

Patna:
, addressing a rally in Bikramganj on Friday, recalled his visit to Madhubani last month, a day after the Pahalgam terror attack, where he pledged swift justice. "From Madhubani, I gave my word that those behind the attack would face a punishment beyond their imagination.

Today, as I return to Bihar, I have fulfilled that pledge," he said.
Modi likened terrorism to a serpent, vowing that if it dares raise its hood again, it will be "dragged from its hole and trampled." He said the Indian armed forces had reduced to rubble the hideouts of those who masterminded the Pahalgam attack from across the border. Referring to the military response, he said
was "just an arrow in the quiver," saying that India's battle against terrorism is far from over.
Paying homage to the land of Veer Kunwar Singh, Modi praised Bihar's legacy of courage, particularly highlighting the contributions of young men from the state serving in the armed forces and the Border Security Force (BSF). He lauded the BSF's bravery during Operation Sindoor, describing them as "an unbreakable shield at our borders," and paid tribute to sub-inspector Imtiaz, a BSF soldier from Bihar martyred on May 10.
Modi also drew attention to Bihar's struggle against Naxalism. Recalling earlier conditions in Sasaram, Kaimur, and neighbouring districts, he said the people once lived in fear of armed militants. "Schools were burned, road workers killed, and no hospitals or mobile towers could reach remote villages," he said, noting that such forces had no regard for the Constitution framed by Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Despite these obstacles, the PM credited CM Nitish Kumar's leadership for pushing forward with development.

He said since 2014, the Centre had intensified efforts to root out Maoist violence, leading to a drastic reduction in affected areas from over 125 districts to just 18.
"The day is not far when Maoist violence will be completely eradicated. Villages will see uninterrupted peace, security, education and growth," he said.
Speaking of development, Modi said Bihar had moved on from the days of crumbling highways and outdated rail infrastructure.
"There was a time when Patna had the state's only airport. Today, Darbhanga offers direct flights to Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru," he noted. He added that the long-standing demand to modernise Patna Airport had been met, with a new terminal now capable of handling one crore passengers annually.
He also announced a Rs 1,400 crore investment in Bihta airport.
Modi concluded by saying that peace and security are essential foundations for progress and under Nitish's leadership, Bihar had stepped firmly onto the path of prosperity.

Robotic lifebuoys coming to Mumbai beaches? Not so soon, BMC scraps plan amid fallout with Turkey

Mumbai will have to wait longer for the dream robotic lifebuoys as the city's civic body scrapped its plan to procure Turkey-made bot. As per the initial plan, these remotely-operated rescue machines were sought for deployment across Mumbai's half-a-dozen beaches, an official informed PTI. This decision comes in the wake of backlash over Turkey's role in supporting Pakistan and India-Turkey fallout post Operation Sindoor. Boycott Turkey goods calls were raised and trade relations strained between the two countries after Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's government criticised India's terror clampdown and strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, these bots were to be deployed at Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park Dadar, Juhu, Versova, Aksa and Gorai beaches. However, a change in plan was made after Turkey openly condemned India's action in response to April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Affirming the development related to procurement of robotic lifebuoys, Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani said that the civic body has scrapped the plan to procure robotic lifebuoys manufactured in Turkey. Designed to assist lifeguards, the robotic lifebuoys would have been a part of search and rescue operation to save people from drowning. Equipped with dual water jets, each unit of robotic lifebuoys possess a 10,000 mAh rechargeable battery. With a carriage capacity of 200 kg, these remotely-operated rescue machines can cover a distance of 800 metres into the sea at speeds up to 18 km/h. BMC officials further informed PTI that the bot can operate for about an hour after one charge. Following the deal with the Eurasian country, the BMC faced strong criticism from political parties. BJP and Shiv Sena leaders had questioned and condemned the procurement of the machine from foreign supplier and had insisted on promoting indigenous production.

Secret Flight Plan, Radio Silence: How Ex PM Sheikh Hasina Fled Bangladesh

Quick Read Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed. Former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina's escape on August 5, 2024, involved a secret flight from Dhaka to Ghaziabad, with transponders switched off and a fake Kolkata flight plan, to minimise attention amid violent protests. New Delhi: A Bangladesh daily has published details of ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina 's dramatic escape from Dhaka on August 5, 2024, and confirms what sources at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose airport told this reporter - her military transport planned to land in the city but changed course. It eventually landed at the Hindon Air Force base in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. This, as it now appears, was calculated to avoid unwarranted attention. Media houses in India, including NDTV, initially reported she was en route to Kolkata. The plane made the detour to Delhi late - appearing to be on course for Kolkata till the last minute - because it wanted to spend as little time as possible in Bangladesh airspace. Aviation experts have confirmed planes flying from Dhaka to Delhi spend more time in Bangladeshi airspace than those to Kolkata. The Dhaka-Kolkata route a direct flightpath to the west while that to Delhi is north-westerly and spends more time in Bangladesh-controlled skies. Civil aviation sources told the Bangladeshi daily, The Daily Star, there is a hotline between Air Traffic Control in Dhaka and Kolkata to notify each other about approaching planes. The plane was designated as a 'training flight' to avoid drawing attention to her fleeing the country as a violent crowd - allegedly intent on murder - her was taking over the Gana Bhavan. ARCHIVES | Bangladesh Protesters Storm Sheikh Hasina's Palace Amid Clashes The Gana Bhavan is the former Prime Minister's official residence in Dhaka. What Happened That Day? The plane took off from the Bangladesh Air Force's Bangabandhu base a little after 3pm, after filing a fight plan to Kolkata. It was given a 'squawk code' of 4131 - the unique four-digit code assigned by an Air Traffic Control - and this was shared with Kolkata ATC, the 'destination'. However, after take-off from Dhaka, the plane turned off it transponders. which transmit identifying details like the aircraft's 'squawk code', altitude, speed, and location. It was now 'invisible' to ATC radars, whether in Dhaka, Kolkata, or anywhere else, although communication was maintained with ground control to ensure safe passage of the flight. On board were Sheikh Hasina, her sister, and others. ARCHIVES | Sheikh Rehana, Hasina's Lifelong Shadow After Massacre Killed Family The transponders were switched on only near the Bengal border, at which point Dhaka handed the plane off to Kolkata, which means the pilot had to contact the ATC to announce his arrival. This is standard practice and is usually done when a flight is close to the border. At this point Indian aviation authorities began tracking the plane - a Bangladesh Air Force C-130J aircraft - which was around 10km from the international border. Green Light From Delhi India's permission had been sought and secured; Sheikh Hasina was cleared to fly to India as the situation in Bangladesh had worsened with protesters baying for blood. ARCHIVES | Sheikh Hasina Meets NSA Doval Near Delhi, May Seek UK Asylum Police stations had been attacked and members of the then-ruling Awami League were also being targeted to complete the breakdown of law and order, leading to anarchy and violence. Hours after her plane took off from Dhaka, the ex-PM was in Ghaziabad, her arrival confirmed, after much speculation over her whereabouts, by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
