Kota Kinabalu: Activist-cum-surgeon Dr Chong Eng Leong called for clearer eligibility criteria in the newly announced Sabah Group Personal Accident Scheme, following concerns that the current requirements may exclude some genuine Sabahans. The scheme, which covers all Sabahans aged 30 days to 80 years, was announced by State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun. However, Dr Chong pointed out that the current condition, limiting coverage to those with MyKad or MyKid bearing Sabah state codes 12, 47, 48, or 49 may inadvertently leave out many Sabah-born individuals. 'The Minister may not be aware that some Sabahans do not have these codes on their MyKad,' said Dr Chong. He cited examples, including a current state minister whose MyKad bears the code '71' instead, as well as children of Sabahans born in other states due to their parents' past employment there. Additionally, he noted that long-term Sabah PR holders from Sarawak or Peninsular Malaysia, despite residing in Sabah for decades, would also be excluded under the current rules.

To prevent confusion, he urged the Finance Minister to review the agreement with the insurance provider and amend the terms accordingly. 'A clarification and necessary adjustments will avoid unnecessary misunderstandings later,' he said. For the record, the scheme, intended to benefit all 2.7 million Sabahans, is the State's first social security initiative under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah Government. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? However, he noted that concerns were raised regarding connectivity issues in the hospital's newly built wing. Advertisement 'I took the opportunity to speak with hospital management regarding internet connectivity within the hospital premises. Overall, they expressed satisfaction with both internet and mobile coverage. 'However, they noted some issues in the new wing involving one of the telecommunications service providers,' he told reporters after presenting a contribution under the Kasih@Hawana Fund here today. He said the provider in question would be asked to assess and optimise its services in the affected area to ensure consistent and reliable coverage for patients, staff and visitors. Last year, Fahmi said that hospitals were identified as one of the top seven priority areas for improved network coverage. Advertisement He said that while some public hospitals have continued to face connectivity challenges, the broader initiative aimed to resolve long-standing in-building mobile coverage issues and support the integration of 5G technology for more advanced medical applications. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Cannabis found in Haribo confectionery not from production process: Manufacturer

In late May, Haribo recalled packets of confectionery in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg after some were found to contain traces of cannabis. Advertisement The food safety body in the Netherlands (NVWA) said three 1-kilogram packs of Haribo Happy Cola F!ZZ were found to be contaminated. Haribo's investigation, and tests by an independent laboratory, found the cannabis had not entered the product during production, Haribo said. "We are pleased to confirm that the results of these tests are all negative and there are no signs of contamination," a Haribo spokesperson said. "Our internal investigations also show that there were no irregularities in our production processes." Haribo was still working closely with authorities to determine how the cannabis could have gotten into the confectionery. Advertisement NVWA had also warned that consuming the affected cola bottles could lead to health problems, including dizziness. Several people, including children, had complained of feeling unwell. Two children were treated in a hospital, and one was temporarily in a coma. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
