Max Verstappen dramatically spun off the track
Amid all the confusion Verstappen spun wildly before recovering and dropping all the way back into 11th.
The Dutchman was left fuming, and said on his team radio: "Whoa, Mate! Jesus, just suddenly again slows down!"
The stewards were then forced to investigate Piastri for a Safety Car infringement and he was later slapped with a whopping ten-second time penalty.
Lando Norris just needed to stay within touching distance from his teammate and the Silverstone crown would be his.
The safety car had been called into action as Isack Hadjar slammed into the wall and was luckily left unhurt.
The Racing Bulls youngster had crashed into the back of Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli.
McLaren chief executive Zak Brown on Sky Sports F1: "We're debating that here on the pit wall. That was a bit of a late Safety Car call in.
"The leader controls the race. I think it looked a little bit more dramatic on tv than we saw on telemetry."

He also admitted McLaren are considering appealing, saying: "Yeah. That's exactly the conversation that we're having.
"I think you also had Max accelerating because he thought Oscar was about ready to go. A combination of both."

Who is Belinda Bencic's husband Martin Hromkovic?

Next up she's taking on No.18 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the fourth round — no doubt her supportive husband Martin Hromkovic will be cheering her on all the way. Martin Hromkovic was born in Slovakia on May 27, 1982. He's a former professional footballer who enjoyed a 17-year career as a defender. Martin was picked up by FK Inter Bratislava, but spent most of his career at OFC Russell Gabcikovo. He later transitioned into a career as a fitness and conditioning coach, gaining a master's degree from the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia The new job was partly responsible for kindling his romance with Belinda Bencic, which started in November 2018. Their relationship was initially professional — Martin became Belinda's dedicated strength and conditioning coach. As they spent more time together during training sessions in Slovakia, their relationship naturally developed into a romantic one. In 2022, Belinda told Blick: 'It came a little unexpected, but it's an ideal situation. When I work on fitness in Slovakia, we can be together. 'As a tennis professional, relationships are so difficult. I do not see my best friend until half a year later. 'You never see another tennis player. A man waiting at home — no chance! 'Martin wants the best for me for my private life and sport. He often travels, I'm very grateful for his support! 'Fortunately, we can separate private and professional life well. When I work, I really see him as a coach. I hope it stays that way. 'For him, the job is done when I'm fit. Martin was an athlete himself, a footballer. So he understands well when I'm nervous or tense.' Wedding In November 2023, Martin proposed to Bencic during a romantic holiday in the Maldives. Around the same time, Belinda announced she was pregnant on Instagram, writing: "Expecting our little miracle soon! We can't wait to meet you." The two married without fanfare, with Belinda's manager Martin Bal Telling 20 Minuten: "Belinda and Martin got married in a civil ceremony during her pregnancy." While the civil ceremony was kept private, they reportedly plan to hold a larger celebration with friends and family at some point in the future. Family life Their daughter, Bella, was born in April 2024. Belinda is one of nine mothers to start in the Wimbledon 2024 ladies' draw. On being what it feels like bringing baby Bella along, she said: 'Sometimes I feel even more relaxed with a different perspective, you know, playing the tournaments, maybe being more grateful that I'm able to play and to have these beautiful moments together.' Speaking about her return to the Slam, Belinda told the Wimbledon website: "The locker rooms are so nice. "I'm not in the members' locker room now, because I'm not seeded [in the] top 16 now, but they help create this special atmosphere before we play. "They are so classic, clean, elegant. "I love the flowers all around the Grounds... I love it all here."

Watch: Lando Norris has nose split open after man falls off pit wall

Lando Norris was left with a bloody nose after a man fell off the pit wall and landed on the McLaren driver during celebrations after his British Grand Prix victory. Norris, who drove to his first Grand Prix victory at Silverstone on Sunday, looked visibly in pain and had to be taken away for medical treatment, having approached the pit wall to celebrate with the thousands of fans gathered on the start-finish straight. The man appeared to be a photographer who was attempting to get into position for Norris' pit-wall celebrations. As he hauled himself into position, the black screening that had been erected after the race came loose and he fell backwards into the McLaren driver, who was subsequently barged into two other nearby photographers. Norris was carrying his the Royal Automobile Club Trophy, given each year to the winner of the British Grand Prix, that appears to have caused the cut when it was hit into his face. The 25-year-old, from Bristol, needed Steri-Strips to treat the wound and later appeared on the Silverstone Main Stage to greet fans showing off his latest injuries. Norris saw the funny side when he explained his war wounds, having suffered a similar nose injury while partying at a Martin Garrix DJ set in Amsterdam before the Miami Grand Prix last year. 'Long story.. but now I have two scars on my nose!' joked Norris when he addressed fans after the race. 'One was lonely so now I've got two. But it's all part of the memories of Silverstone.' Norris also looks set to be fined by the FIA after he fell foul of their swearing rules during his post-race celebrations. Speaking to Jenson Button and broadcast live on Sky Sports F1, Norris said: 'Your mind just goes pretty blank. Everything you might think before the race, you forget. The main thing is just don't f--- it up, that's rule number one.' Norris quickly realised his faux pas and apologised, as did Button who added: 'Sorry from me as well!' But that apology is unlikely to get Norris out of hot water with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who this year pushed through new regulations that sees drivers hit with financial penalties for any swearing that happens outside of the cockpit. However, after drivers pushed back on the fines, Norris is only expected to be docked £4,200, a mere drop in the ocean when his reported £16 million-a-year contract is considered. Before suffering the injury, Norris said: 'No tears. I tried but when I get emotional I don't cry. I smile. It was just pure joy, pure emotion of the moment you're in. I wish I'd cried because it looks better. 'This is where it all started for me. I saw my grandstand today and was thinking someone's got to win today, there is no reason why it can't be me. 'I sometimes find it difficult to be positive before races but I was surprised today that I had the pace when I needed it. 'I join a long list of pretty incredible winners here, most of them are Lewis [Hamilton] but to join him and continue the reign on the British side is pretty amazing.'

Lando Norris cuts nose in McLaren celebrations at Silverstone

An emotional Lando Norris said he was in dreamland after winning the British Grand Prix for the first time - despite suffering a cut to his nose while celebrating. Norris followed in the footsteps of Sir Stirling Moss, James Hunt, Sir Jackie Stewart and Lewis Hamilton as he became the 13th British driver to triumph at his home race. The 25-year-old capitalised on Oscar Piastri 's 10-second penalty at a wet Silverstone to take his fourth win of the season to reduce his rival's lead at the summit of the world standings from 15 points to eight. Norris' celebrations were briefly halted after a photographer fell off a fence in the pit lane and landed on him. McLaren confirmed that Norris was fine, other than the minor injury to his nose. 'This victory is everything I dreamed of,' said Norris. 'Being on top at your home race is very, very special. 'From a British perspective, I join a long list of pretty incredible winners – most of them are Lewis (Hamilton has won the British Grand Prix a record nine times) – so to join him and continue the reign of the British at Silverstone is amazing. 'Looking up at the fans and seeing them on their feet, your mind just goes pretty blank. The main thing is just don't f*** it up. I was just trying to enjoy the moment. 'But these are moments that none of you guys get to witness. This is only something that I, and very few Brits have achieved. It is a selfish moment, in a way, but so special and incredible because it is such a rare thing to feel and witness. 'For me, it is my best win, maybe not the best way to win, but in terms of what it means to me, winning at home, it is very memorable. Apart from winning a championship, this is as good as it gets.' Norris was just eight when Hamilton won in the wet at Silverstone by more than a minute after a drive for the ages. Hamilton, 40, had to settle for fourth on Sunday after he came up just short in his bid to land a first podium in Ferrari colours. Norris continued: 'Silverstone is where it all started for me – watching Lewis, Jenson (Button), Fernando (Alonso) – and it was that wet race here in 2008 when I began watching Formula One. 'Lewis won and I got that picture of him going round and all the fans are standing up, creating an amazing atmosphere. I dreamed of that for many, many years and today I got to see that through my own eyes and live that moment.' Norris' voice broke as he celebrated his win over the radio. 'There were no tears,' insisted Norris with a smile. 'I tried. But when I get emotional I don't cry, I just smile and it is pure happiness. I wish I could cry because I think it looks better for the pictures!' Norris' championship appeared in tatters after he crashed into the back of Piastri in Montreal last month but he has responded with back-to-back wins for the first time in his career to breathe new life into his title charge. He concluded: 'I have had two good weekends, and of course I want to continue the momentum, but that requires consistency and I need to keep working hard.' PA
