Several passenger trains cancelled as 24 goods wagons derail in Chandil
No one was injured in the incident. Following the derailment, several passenger trains were cancelled, rerouted or short-terminated, leaving several travellers stranded. Efforts were on to provide alternative travel arrangements to the stranded passengers.
The incident happened when 7 wagons of a freight train carrying iron ore, travelling from Tatanagar to Purulia on the down line, were derailed after it crossed the Chandil railway station.
The derailed wagons tipped over on an empty freight train moving from the opposite direction on the adjacent up line. As a result, seven wagons of the empty freight train also derailed.
Railway officials said the incident occurred at Pitki railway crossing, which is nearly 200 metres away from the Chandil railway station, in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
"None of the crew members of the derailed trains were injured.

Vikas Kumar, the senior divisional commercial manager of the Adra division of South Eastern Railways, said the tracks were heavily damaged after the derailments. "Track clearance, re-railing and repair work is being done on a war footing, and necessary equipment and heavy machines have been deployed at the site along with the necessary workforce.
We are expecting partial resumption of the train service by midnight," he said.
"A panel will be constituted to probe the incident," Kumar added.
The abrupt halt in railway traffic stranded passengers at different stations. Railways said it had made alternative arrangements to transport the passengers to reach their respective destinations.
Meanwhile, over a dozen passenger and express trains were cancelled on Saturday, while others were rerouted or short-terminated.
In a statement, the South Eastern Railways said Howrah-Ranchi-Howrah Vande Bharat, Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat (20894), Tatanagar-Katihar-Tatanagar Express, Dhanbad-Tatanagar-Dhanbad Express and Tatanagar-Buxar Express (18183) were cancelled. Three MEMU trains, including Tata-Hatia and Tata-Asansol, were also cancelled for the day.
Further, long-distance trains were diverted. While the Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Purushottam Express was diverted via the Hijli-Modinagar-Adra-Bhojudih-Gomoh route, the Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (which runs via Sambalpur) was diverted through the Jharsuguda-Rourkela-Nuagaon-Hatia-Bokaro-Rajabera route.
Reacting to the train cancellations, Adityapur resident 52-year-old Amod Kumar, who was supposed be with his sister in Patna on Rakshabandhan day, regretted he couldn't make it to the Bihar capital.
"I and my wife had booked tickets on Vande Bharat and were supposed to board the train from Tatanagar this morning but due to the derailment, the train was cancelled. I couldn't make it to my sister's house on the auspicious Rakhi day," rued DTP operator Kumar.
Similarly, Manish Jaiswal, 46, who was supposed to board the Tatanagar-Dhanbad train to travel to the coal town to attend a function at his relative's house had to miss the get-together due to the cancellation of the train.

Residents voice concern after sighting of wild boar at Taljai Hill
1 2 Pune: Residents living in the vicinity of Taljai Hill near Sahakarnagar have voiced concern over the sighting of a wild boar in the area on Monday morning. They have urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) authorities to check whether there are other wild boars on the hill. "Many morning walkers visit the hill daily and wild boars can cause harm to the visitors. Attacks on people cannot be ruled out," said Nitin Kadam, a local activist. The PMC official said they would visit the site and take necessary measures in association with the forest department. Audio reveals ordeal of tourists stranded in dark inside R'bore
1 2 Jaipur: An audio recording between a woman tourist and a tour operator has revealed the harrowing experience of those who were left stranded inside Ranthambore Tiger Reserve Saturday evening after their Canter safari vehicle broke down deep within the forest. According to the recorded conversation, the group was stuck for nearly one hour and forty-five minutes in an area known as a three-tiger territory (zone-6). The woman recounted that the vehicle failed around 6pm, plunging the tourists into panic. With no mobile network to call for help, the situation grew tense. The guide, she alleged, abandoned the group altogether, taking a lift from another vehicle to exit the park. By 7pm, no rescue had arrived. The woman said one of the tourists, Mohit, managed to reach the main entry gate by requesting another vehicle and pleaded for assistance, stressing that his seven-month-old child was among those stranded. However, when he appealed to a Canter driver for help, the driver allegedly demanded full payment before agreeing.
