Tua Tagovailoa's injury history puts Dolphins in tough spot as doubts grow over $212 million commitment

The Miami Dolphins find themselves at a crossroads with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as the 2025 NFL season looms. Once viewed as the team's long-term answer under center, Tua's persistent injury history is casting a long shadow over his future in South Florida—and the stakes couldn't be higher.
Tua Tagovailoa's injury woes raise real concerns over his future as the Dolphins' franchise quarterback
When healthy, Tua Tagovailoa has proven he can be more than just a capable starter. In 2023, he threw for 4,624 yards and 29 touchdowns, guiding the Dolphins to playoff contention and proving that he has the arm and IQ to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure offense.

But that momentum quickly unraveled last season. Injuries sidelined him for multiple games, and his production dropped to 2,687 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 2024—a steep decline that's prompted questions from both inside and outside the organization.
Tagovailoa, 27, is currently under a massive $212.4 million contract, a deal that now looks like a gamble as his durability remains a recurring concern. As Pro Football Focus analyst Ryan Smith put it, 'With a roster already facing depth concerns, the Dolphins can't afford another season derailed by quarterback injuries. Tagovailoa's health will be one of the defining factors in Miami's 2025 campaign, and another extended absence would raise serious questions about his long-term viability as the franchise's $212.4 million investment.

The Dolphins have surrounded Tua with a strong offensive line, talented receivers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and a revamped run game. But none of it matters if their quarterback can't stay on the field. Miami's coaching staff is under pressure, too, knowing another injury-riddled season could derail a roster built to compete now.
If Tua suffers another significant injury in the 2025-26 campaign, sources say the team could explore options to move him—despite the complications of his contract. The challenge lies in finding a trade partner willing to absorb such a hefty financial commitment. That said, quarterback-hungry teams might still take a chance on a proven passer if the Dolphins are willing to eat part of the deal.

For now, the spotlight is on Tagovailoa. Whether he can stay healthy and lead this franchise deep into the playoffs may well determine not only his future in Miami but the direction of the entire organization.

Rohit Sharma's records in IPL playoffs: A look into former Mumbai Indians captain's numbers before GT vs MI Eliminator
Rohit Sharma might have won five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, but the former Mumbai Indians captain have never been a heavyweight. In 18 seasons so far in IPL, Rohit have crossed the 500-run mark only once in his career. The Mumbai Indians opener is just 43 runs away from becoming the second batter after Virat Kohli to reach 7000 runs. Despite his aura of being the most successful IPL captain, his numbers in the playoffs does little to justify the kind of player he is. Ahead of the Mumbai Indians' Eliminator clash against Gujarat Titans, here's a look into how Rohit has performed in IPL playoffs. In 22 matches in IPL playoffs, Rohit scored 316 runs. He has two fifty-plus scores to his name in IPL playoffs with a highest of 68 against Delhi Capitals in the final of 2020 edition. Notably, Rohit got out nine times in single digits in IPL playoffs. Also, both his fifties in IPL playoffs have come during the final matches (2020 and 2015). IPL 2025: Players are very focused and determined to finish the job, says RCB's Bobat
New Delhi: After Royal Challengers Bengaluru stormed into the IPL 2025 final on the back of a clinical eight-wicket win over Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1, director of cricket Mo Bobat said the players are very focused and determined to complete the task of winning the title. With the dominating win in Qualifier 1, the Rajat Patidar-led RCB reached an IPL final for the first time in nine years. Interestingly, the IPL 2016 season was also the last time RCB finished in the top two during the league stage. "We're proud of the way we've played throughout the season. The way the group has taken on challenges - with bravery, composure and aggressive intent, reflects the collective character we've built through the season. We've ticked off a few important milestones on the way here, but this is obviously the one that matters most. "We have many match winners and it's been great to see everyone contributing. After a long and gruelling league phase, the playoffs are a time to really trust in and enjoy your cricket. The final will be a great occasion, especially for our fans, and the players are very focused and determined to finish the job,' said Bobat in a release by the franchise on Friday. RCB's success in IPL 2025 has been shaped by every player stepping up to make the team win irrespective of how the situation was. Virat Kohli has scored more than 600 runs in a season – the fifth time it's happened in the IPL. Kohli has struck eight half-centuries, which is the most by any batter this season. Apart from Kohli, nine other batters have registered half-centuries – Patidar, Phil Salt, Tim David, Jitesh Sharma, and Romario Shepherd, as well as Devdutt Padikkal and Jacob Bethell, both of whom will not feature again this season citing injury and international duty respectively. With the ball, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has led the charge with 21 wickets, while Krunal Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have picked 15 wickets each, and leg-spinner Suyash Sharma has eight scalps. Nine different RCB players have won the Player of the Match awards in this season, where the side won all of its away games – a feat achieved by no other team in IPL's history. RCB will now take the field in the title clash against the winner of Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3.
