'Some player on television said...': Ajay Jadeja not impressed with Gill's 'lucky day' remark on Vaibhav Suryavanshi's century
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old boy, stole the show on Monday during the clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Suryavanshi scripted history by becoming the youngest-ever centurion in the history of the T20 tournament as he slammed a century off 35 balls at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Well, it seems from Rahul Dravid to former India batsman Ajay Jadeja, who didn't hold back himself in expressing his displeasure after GT captain Shubham Gill dismissed Suryavanshi's 101-run innings as merely a 'lucky day', the young player stunned the entire stadium.
Suryavanshi's blistering innings, featuring eight fours and 11 sixes, gave the RR a ball-dominant eight-wicket victory. The host reached the total with 25 balls to spare while chasing a target of 210, completely deflating the GT.

After GT's loss, Captain Shubhman Gill was asked to describe his feelings after seeing Suryavanshi's knock, and he said that the left-hander had a lucky day and made the most of his chances.
'It was his (lucky) day. His hitting was just tremendous, and he made full use of his day,' said Shubman Gill while speaking to the host broadcaster.
Ajay Jadeja, on the other hand, looked not really happy with Gill dismissing the knock like this. The former Indian batsman seemed to have a lot to say, but he was cut off due to the post-match presentation.
While speaking to JioHostar, Jadeja said, 'But a 14-year-old to believe in himself, the amount that he believes in himself, and to take it that far, even if it's, you know, one day like some player on television just said, Oh, it was just his lucky day."

Karnataka high court bars police from widening RCB stampede probe for now
The Karnataka high court on Tuesday barred the state police from expanding the scope of its investigation beyond the initial first information report (FIR) registered in connection with the June 4 stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium that left 11 dead and several injured. The court also continued the restraint on the Bengaluru police from arresting officials of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and event management firm DNA Entertainment in the case. Justice SR Krishna Kumar directed that, for the time being, police must confine their investigation to the offences mentioned in the first of three FIRs registered suo motu following the incident. The court extended the interim protection from arrest granted earlier to the senior officials of RCB, KSCA, and DNA Entertainment until July 8. The FIR, registered at the Cubbon Park Police Station in Bengaluru, names the KSCA management for alleged negligence during the crowd-control disaster that unfolded as thousands gathered to greet the RCB team following its first-ever IPL title win. It also charges them under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. While all three entities have been named in the FIRs, no specific individuals from any of the organisations have been identified as accused. The court also took note of the state government's submission that only the FIR currently under investigation by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) would be pursued. The direction came during hearings on pleas filed by RCB, DNA and KSCA seeking quashing of the FIRs. Their counsel argued that all three FIRs arose from the same incident and covered identical grounds, making multiple investigations unwarranted. The stampede took place on June 4 when an overwhelming crowd turned up at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to witness RCB's IPL victory celebrations. According to the state, the stadium's capacity is around 30,000, but over two lakh people reportedly gathered outside and around the venue. The government has maintained that the tragedy was triggered by RCB's announcement of free passes for fans to attend the event. It alleged that RCB and DNA Entertainment failed to obtain the necessary permissions or put in place basic safety measures to control the massive turnout. Meanwhile, in parallel proceedings, a separate bench comprising by acting chief justice V Kameswar Rao and justice CM Joshi, hearing a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) into the incident, decided to implead RCB, DNA Entertainment and KSCA as parties to these proceedings. The bench also said it would appoint an amicus curiae to assist the court in examining the matter further. The state has already constituted a one-member judicial commission led by retired high court judge Justice JM Cunha to conduct an independent inquiry into the stampede. A separate magisterial inquiry is also underway. Last week, the state submitted a sealed cover status report on both inquiries before the division bench. The court on Tuesday said it will also consider whether the government can continue keeping the findings and interim reports confidential during the course of the proceedings.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri wants to see Sai Sudharsan make his Test debut and bat at the crucial No.3 position in the series opener against England, also adding that Karun Nair will be ideal in the number five position after an 'incredible' run in First-Class cricket. The first of the five-match series starts in Leeds on Friday in what will be Shubman Gill's first assignment as India captain. 'It would be (Yashasvi) Jaiswal, and with him will be K L Rahul, because I think this is a big tour for him. He's the most experienced of the batsmen,' Shastri said on the ICC Review on Tuesday. 'He (Rahul) opened last time when India toured England, got a hundred, (and) had a good tour. So, I would hope for him to open the innings. 'Three, I'll go with the youngster, Sai Sudharsan. Whatever I've seen of him he's very impressive. This will be good exposure for him, this tour.' The 23-year-old Sudharsan is enjoying a great run of form, having recently become the youngest player to amass 700 runs in a single IPL season after a successful outing in First-Class cricket. In the former India skipper's preferred side for the first Test, the top-three batters are joined by the new Test captain at No.4, having batted at No.3 in his first 32 Test matches. Karun Nair, who returns to the Test team after eight years, should be the ideal choice at No.5 at Headingley based on current form, feels Shastri. 'I think he (Nair) has worked really hard. He's just worked his way back into the side. The number of runs he's got in First-Class cricket is incredible. 'And I met him during an IPL game. I said, 'Don't just bang the door. Just kick it down and make your way in and walk into that side'. And I think he's done just that. Just the number of runs that he's got has made the selectors look in that direction and give him a place,' Shastri added. In terms of bowling, Shastri prefers three pacers considering the conditions in Leeds. 'I know it'll be a tough one between Shardul (Thakur) and Nitish Reddy, but you have to see who bowls how much. If Reddy is going to give you 12, 14 overs, then he might get the nod because of his batting. 'And the three fast bowlers would be, I would go with Prasidh Krishna, I would go with Mohammed Siraj and of course Jasprit Bumrah. 'In Leeds, if it's overcast and it's cloudy, there might be the temptation of going with the left-arm Arshdeep Singh as well. India dealt narrow 1-2 defeat by Australia in FIH Hockey Pro League (Women)
London, June 16 (UNI) The Indian Women's Hockey Team were dealt a narrow 1–2 defeat by Australia in their FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25 match at the Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre here. Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke (3') scored the only goal for India while Amy Lawton (37') and Lexie Pickering (60') were the goalscorers for Australia. India took an early lead in the proceedings but Australia made a comeback with a goal in the third and final minute of the fourth quarter to seal the victory on Sunday. India made a bright start to the game as they won three back-to-back penalty corners in the very first minute, adding pressure on the Australian backline. India carried on their momentum and scored the opening goal as early as the third minute to take charge of the match. Navneet Kaur carried the ball forward and passed it to Sharmila Devi on the left who played it to the far post for Vaishnavi as she deflected the ball into the net. India continued to pile on the pressure as Navneet came close to extending the lead but narrowly missed the target. Minutes later, Australia won two back-to-back penalty corners towards the end of first quarter but India did well at the back to maintain their lead. Australia improved their performance in the second quarter and started creating good goalscoring chances. Both sides exchanged possession and battled it out in the midfield but they couldn't be separated in the second quarter as India headed into the second half with a goal in hand. Australia were more dominant in the third quarter and caused troubles for the Indian defence. Greta Hayes came teasingly close to scoring a goal as she struck a shot towards an empty net, however, the ball was stopped by her own teammate by accident. In the 37th minute, Australia were on the attack again but this time, they managed to find the equaliser courtesy of a brilliant goal from Amy Lawton. Amy did well to win the ball from an India defender and then unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the circle, past the keeper into the bottom right corner. The scores were level as both sides headed into the final quarter of the match. India received a penalty corner but the Australian keeper made a strong save to keep her side in the contest. In the 54th minute, India won four penalty corners in a row but they couldn't manage to find the net. In their third attempt, Neha fired a shot which took a deflection and struck the post, missing the net by a few inches. With 34 seconds left on the clock, Australia converted a penalty corner to complete their comeback in the match. Tatum Stewart played the perfect pass to Lexie Pickering on the right as she took the Indian goalkeeper off-guard and deflected the ball into the net to claim all three points.
