US star Hayden Panettiere on why she vanished from Hollywood at the height of her career

News.com.au02-05-2025

Hayden Panettiere has opened up about her surprising decision to quit Hollywood at the height of her successful TV and movie career.
The Scream actress, 35, who has battled addictions to alcohol and drugs in the past, revealed that she reached a point where she 'desperately' needed to leave Hollywood.
'I had taken four years off. Didn't know or plan to, but that's just the way it panned out,' Panettiere, who last year sparked fears after she was seen in interviews with slurred speech, explained during an interview with US Weekly. 'And I desperately needed it.'
'It's healthy to continue to keep evolving as a person. Which I always try to do to keep reinventing ourselves and learning more things about ourselves and our wants and needs and dislikes and all the above,' she shared. 'But I've never been this version of me, I've never been as OK with being who I am without feeling the need to apologise for anything. I feel like I've finally earned the right to an opinion.'
It's been a difficult few years for the star, who battled addiction issues which sparked her ex-husband, boxer Wladimir Klitschko, to take their daughter away and move to Ukraine.
The former Heroes actress was forced to break her silence last year after interview footage of her slurring her speech went viral on social media leaving fans concerned about her wellbeing.
'It's unfathomable that I'm even in this position, but I feel forced to address it in a space where I won't be criticised for how fast or slow I speak,' she explained to her followers, revealing that she hadn't slept for two days due to her pet undergoing an emergency surgery and that the interview couldn't be rescheduled.
'It was an 8-hour shoot followed by an on-camera interview that was supposed to last for 1 hour. The interview started well, and for the record, its beginning is not included in the version People Magazine posted. I was exhausted,' she continued.
'My rep stopped the interview early as it became obvious that I was fading - especially as the subject matter became heavier.'
Panettiere was referring to the discussion of her younger brother, Jansen, who tragically died aged just 28 in September last year due to an undiagnosed heart condition.
In a subsequent interview she was questioned whether she felt she had managed to come to terms with his tragic passing, to which she responded: 'I don't know that I fully have. I think it's something that transforms over time.'
Hayden will next be seen on screen in the upcoming movie A Breed Apart, which hits cinemas and VOD on May 16th.

Tiffany Haddish opens up on 'mentally and spiritual' challenges of getting her makeup done

Tiffany Haddish needs to be in a "good space mentally and spiritually" before she can get her makeup done. The 45-year-old comedienne is no stranger to performing on stage and screen, but admitted that when it comes to the preparation of it all, she can only "handle" having assistants swarm around her to act as a glam squad if she has made peace with it all in her own head first. She told UsWeekly: "A lot of people will be pulling on you, and you need to be in a good space mentally and spiritually in order to handle that. 'Especially on those lady days! You really just want to fight people because you're dying. There's a funeral happening, and nobody knows but you!' The ' Girls Trip' star was then asked if she has any rituals before she goes on stage and explained that she uses "personal feel-good music" to get herself ready. She said: "It's my personal feel-good music. "Not even my team hears it. It's in my AirPods. It's basically Hz tones — 420, 480, 550." Meanwhile, Tiffany - who was married to William Stewart from 2008 until 2013 and dated rapper Common from 2020 until 2021 - is currently single but has strict financial criteria she wants from a new partner, including a good credit score, an Employer Identification Number (EIN) and their own staff within their company. She told 'Extra': 'There are people that want to be special in my life, but they don't meet the qualifications. 'The qualifications for someone to be that special guy is the credit score has to be over 675 because… I'm a firm believer that credit score shows a lot about a person, and if a bank wouldn't be willing to give you a loan for a home, why would I be willing to let you be in my body?' 'You got to have an EIN number, okay? And he has to have employees… If you don't know what an EIN number is, that just means you're an employee.'

Paris Hilton's parents helped her remain 'grounded'

Paris Hilton has always been a "down-to-earth girl". The 44-year-old star has credited her parents for instilling a "strong work ethic" into her, and Paris believes she's been unaffected by her own fame and success. Paris - who starred on the reality series 'The Simple Life' between 2003 and 2007 - told HELLO! magazine: "I feel as though I've been the same my whole life. My parents instilled a strong work ethic in me from when I was very young and that has always kept me grounded. "I remember when the very first 'Simple Life' episode aired, my mom took me aside and told me that my life was about to change forever but that I should never stop being the same down-to-earth girl I am. I've never forgotten that." Paris has always been very ambitious, and she doesn't have any intention of slowing down. The reality TV star explained: "I love making entertainment. I love making products. I love being creative and making people happy. That is what I've tried to do my whole career. "I feel lucky that I've been able to do everything and be successful at it at the same time." Earlier this year, Paris hailed 'Stars Are Blind' as the "most iconic pop song ever made". The blonde beauty released the hit single back in 2006 and Paris still sings the song in the shower. She told Us Weekly: "I was actually just singing it in the shower this morning because it's the most iconic pop song ever made. My favourite song." Paris has enjoyed success in various fields, but she's "always" thinking of new ideas. Paris - who is married to entrepreneur Carter Reum - shared: "I have ADHD so my brain does not stop moving, and I'm always thinking of ideas. "I'm such a night owl even if I'm trying to go to bed. So it depends. If I have to wake up at like six in the morning for work the next day, I will force myself to go to sleep at 11 or 12. But some nights I just cannot sleep and I love watching TV [even though] my husband goes to bed early."
