Aina gets the nod from Walker
Manchester City defender Kyle Walker says Ola Aina would get his vote for a place in any Premier League Team of the Season.Aina, 28, has impressed for Nottingham Forest during their stellar season.Speaking on The Kyle Walker podcast, the full-back, who is on loan at AC Milan at the moment, said: "If I would have said to you at the start of the season, 'Forest, I think I've seen a stat that they have a 90 % chance of being in the Champions League now'. You'd have said, 'no chance.'"They've just got players that have been on form. Elanga's been incredible, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chris Wood has produced the goals that he's produced. I think the commentator the other night said a very good thing that they've kept the team fit for most of the year. They've not been, touch wood, hit with a lot of injuries."Former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown said: "I tell you who's done well, Kyle. Ola Aina, the right-back. He looks so comfortable and calm and like, in one-v-one situations he just goes, like, 'Go on then...let's go. Take me on!'"Walker added: "He plays left and right back. He's so quick. I was impressed with him a couple of years back when I played against him and just his calmness on the ball, how he defended in the one-v-one situations. Spurs close in on Thomas Frank after making official approach to Brentford
Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou on Friday, despite Europa League success, and quickly set their sights on Frank – who has gained admirers for his work over an impressive seven-year period at the west London club. After positive initial talks over the weekend, confidence started to grow on Monday morning that Frank would be the man to replace Postecoglou and Tottenham have now entered discussions with Brentford, PA understands. Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties. — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) June 6, 2025 Frank's current deal with the Bees runs until the summer of 2027 and contains a release clause reported to be in the region of £10million. Brentford are eager to hold out for Frank's release clause, but they have started talks with Spurs over a compensation package which would soften the blow of losing the highly-rated Dane. The 51-year-old would take over a Spurs side which won the Europa League last month but finished 17th in the Premier League. Poor domestic form during the 2024-25 season cost Postecoglou his job as the Spurs board was forced to make 'one of the toughest decisions' it has had to make in dismissing the head coach who ended a 17-year trophy drought. 'It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond,' a club statement on Friday read. PA understands Tottenham have also relieved coaches Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo of their duties. Former Brondby boss Frank has developed a strong reputation in English football since he took over Brentford, with his tactical nous and man-management skills often lauded by rival managers and pundits. After Frank guided Brentford to promotion in 2021, he quickly enabled them to compete strongly in the Premier League despite a modest budget and has been linked to a number of high-profile vacancies in recent years.

Alan Shearer makes ultimate Newcastle prediction in big compliment to Eddie Howe
Eddie Howe is looking to establish Newcastle as a force in the Premier League and they've been tipped to surpass Kevin Keegan's entertaining side, who narrowly missed out on the title Toon legend Alan Shearer claims Newcastle are better equipped to be crowned Premier League champions than Kevin Keegan's Entertainers. Shearer joined his hometown club 19 years ago, weeks after they'd been pipped to the title by Manchester United and in his first season at St James's Park, the Magpies finished runners-up again. But having seen Newcastle end their 70 year wait for domestic silverware, the club's record goalscorer believes the platform has been laid for further success. Asked if Eddie Howe's side have a better chance of winning the league than the side he played in, Shearer said: 'I think they have. That team was a really good one but this one has done something we couldn't do, something Sir Bobby Robson couldn't do, which Kevin Keegan couldn't do. 'And Eddie Howe has had to do it the hard way. They won the Carabao Cup, beating the big boys who were all top four or five in the table – Forest, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. 'Can they challenge for the title? They have the opportunity by signing the right players. By August if they bring in two of three big hitters, then they will be in a better position.' Looking back at his Toon career, Shearer added: 'I wasn't there when they lost a 12 point lead. I came in and was meant to be the final piece of the jigsaw but it didn't work out like that. Now, they are in a really healthy position. They h aven't signed anybody in the last three windows so you'd think that they are ready to kick on.' Newcastle have made firm enquiries for Brighton 's Joao Pedro and Anthony Elanga of Nottingham Forest though any deal is unlikely in this, the first transfer window of the close-season. Keegan achieved a second and a third during his time in charge of the Magpies. Since then Sir Bobby Robson is the only man to go remotely close, albeit his charge towards the title ran out of breath back in the early 2000s. The iconic manager took charge at St James' Park and finished fourth and third in successive seasons as Newcastle made themselves a regular top four side. Howe again has the club back in that position with their resources meaning they're likely to stick around.
