"Unwise For A Human To Copy Paste AI Text": Zoho Chief Sridhar Vembu's Big Warning

Artificial intelligence could "slow us down" if not used properly, Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu has said. He also urged individuals against "copy-pasting" AI-generated text as their own. "It is unwise for a human to copy-paste AI text ... hiding the fact that it came from AI," Mr Vembu wrote in a detailed post on X. He shared how he uses AI daily, describing himself as a "moderate to heavy" user with two to three sessions a day. He revealed that he regularly switches between ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok and also uses Deepseek. Mr Vembu highlighted four main ways AI fits into his workflow. First, he said AI has largely replaced traditional web search, cutting his own search usage by 80 per cent. Second, he uses AI as a "debating partner," often making different models critique each other's responses to deepen his understanding. On business applications, Mr Vembu sees AI as useful in improving product experiences and speeding up customer support. He warned against replacing human agents or passing off AI-generated text as human-written. "It is unwise to let AI replace human agents," he wrote. For coding, Mr Vembu said, while AI can generate code, it requires extensive review for compliance, privacy, and security. "If any programmer submits AI-generated code without doing all this, they are failing at their job," he said, adding that in some cases, AI may even "slow down" development rather than speed it up. He added that at Zoho, programmers are encouraged to use AI mainly for learning and debate. "We continue to run a lot of experiments, and I will revise my opinion if and when facts change on the ground," Mr Vembu said. On our AI use as of August 2025. I use AI chat tools daily, at least 2-3 sessions a day. So I would count myself as a moderate to heavy user. I have the top 5 apps installed in my phone and I use all of them (see item 2). 1. He said he was preparing to present Zoho's AI strategy to industry analysts in Austin. As part of the leadership transition, co-founder Shailesh Kumar Davey has taken over as group CEO, Tony Thomas now leads Zoho US, Rajesh Ganesan heads ManageEngine, and Mani Vembu oversees

‘AI is a good debating partner': Zoho's Sridhar Vembu on how to use ChatGPT and other tools

Roughly three years after ChatGPT set off the generative AI boom, many are still trying to figure out how to make the technology a useful part of their everyday work. Even CEOs and top executives of major companies are reportedly grappling with this question even as their own employees are mandated to use AI to make businesses more efficient and competitive In this context, Sridhar Vembu, the co-founder and chief scientist of Zoho Corporation, recently shared a few pointers on how AI is used today internally at the multinational enterprise software company. On our AI use as of August 2025. I use AI chat tools daily, at least 2-3 sessions a day. So I would count myself as a moderate to heavy user. I have the top 5 apps installed in my phone and I use all of them (see item 2). 1. AI helps me learn faster. It is a much better search… — Sridhar Vembu (@svembu) August 14, 2025 Acknowledging the vast potential of AI to accelerate learning, streamline workflows, and enhance product experiences, Vembu also expressed a word of caution about over-reliance or misuse of AI as it can lead to the reversal of expected productivity gains. 'I use AI chat tools daily, at least 2-3 sessions a day. So I would count myself as a moderate to heavy user. I have the top 5 apps installed in my phone and I use all of them,' he said. 'We continue to run a lot of experiments, and I will revise my opinion if and when facts change on the ground,' Vembu added. Notably, Vembu said that like many users, he too uses traditional web browsers and search engines a lot less. 'AI helps me learn faster. It is a much better search engine in that sense. My web search has gone down 80% as a direct result,' he said. This is part of a larger shift in user behaviour where more and more people are turning to AI chatbots like ChatGPT, instead of Google Search, to look up information online. Vembu also said that Elon Musk-owned xAI's Grok chatbot and its integration on X (formerly Twitter) shows that AI can enhance product experience. According to Vembu, he does not support the use of AI tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to create new content. 'AI can help customer support agents do their work faster but it is unwise to let AI replace human agents. It is also unwise for a human to copy paste AI text and send it to a customer, hiding the fact that it came from AI,' he said. Weighing in on the debate around vibe-coding, Vembu said that code generated using AI tools 'requires a full round of review for compliance, privacy and security, and those are neither easy nor fun for humans to do.' 'If any programmer submits AI generated code without doing all this, they are failing at their job. Doing all of the above may destroy much of the 'productivity gains' in generating code. In some cases, AI may even slow us down,' he further said.

Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu warns, ‘unwise to copy paste AI text' – Here's why

Artificial Intelligence is a major topic of discussions nowadays, with conversations often focusing on both its benefits and potential downsides. The evolving role of AI in modern workplaces and business processes was the subject of a recent X (formerly twitter) post by Sridhar Vembu, the co-founder and chief scientist of Zoho Corporation. While Vembu acknowledged that AI has immense potential to accelerate learning, streamline workflows, and enhance overall experiences, he cautions that over-reliance or misuse of AI can reduce, or even reverse, the expected productivity gains. Vembu considers himself a moderate to heavy user of AI tools, using them at least 2-3 times a day. He highlights two key benefits of using AI: Faster learning: He considers AI as a powerful search engine, claiming that it has reduced his web searches by 80 per cent. A good debating partner: Vembu also utilizes AI as a debating partner. He even takes output from one AI and asks another AI to critique it, a method he says deepens his understanding of a topic. Despite the benefits, Vembu is clear about the dangers of over-reliance on AI, particularly when it comes to customer interactions and code generation. Using AI for customer support: While AI can support agents do their work faster, Vembu advises against using it to AI to completely replace human agents. He specifically warns against the practice of copy-pasting AI text and sending it to a customer without disclosing the fact that it came from AI. Using AI to generate code: Vembu also noted that AI generated code requires a full round of review for compliance, privacy and security. He states that if any programmer submits AI generated code without doing all this, they are failing at their job. He said that it is important to review every output of AI even though it's time-consuming. If a person fails to follow all of the above, it may destroy much of the "productivity gains" in generating code. In some cases, AI may even slow humans down. Vembu encourages his company's programmers to use AI as a tool for learning and intellectual push, but he urges a cautious approach for more critical tasks like customer communication and coding. He concluded the post by saying, 'we continue to run a lot of experiments, and I will revise my opinion if and when facts change on the ground.'
