PR firm reveals plan to revamp city of Howell, Michigan's image
"My work is very much behind the scenes," said Brian Burch, the firm's managing partner. "The great people are the story here. The great business owners, the great families, the great history that have done to make our community a better place. That's the story."
The city announced in December 2024 that it would hire a public relations firm to revamp the area's reputation after reported incidents of racism and homophobia. Past reporting shed light on a troubled history in Howell, including a period in the '70s when Ku Klux Klan gatherings were allegedly held on the farm of KKK Grand Dragon Robert E. Miles, who, according to reports, held white supremacist rallies and was also sentenced for a school bus bombing.
In November, there were reports of a Neo-Nazi demonstration outside a performance of the play The Diary of Anne Frank. During the hunt for a PR firm to help, the city experienced another racist incident with another reported Nazi demonstration, this time outside of the Historic Howell Theater.
The firm was hired in March 2025.
"We're not rehabbing anything; what we're doing is we're telling Howell's story as it actually is," Burch said.
When asked how the last couple of incidents fit into that story, Burch said, "It doesn't fit in. Things that fit in are kind of the great communities, the safe streets, the amazingly responsible police department. I don't believe that a few bad actors from out of town can change that."
Burch said his work centers around highlighting events happening in the city, new projects like the Depot Lot Expansion, and the community's natural areas.
"I think the story is showing people how great we live," he said.
Meanwhile, some Howell residents say they were happy to hear the city is taking action, and some felt it wasn't necessary or a good use of money.

At Gov. Gavin Newsom's urging, they've drafted a proposal to increase the number to 48. However, the current map was drawn by an independent commission created though a voter-approved ballot initiative in 2008. To avoid legal challenges, Democrats want to put their proposal on the ballot in a special election in November. 10 years between typical map redrawings Redistricting usually happens after the once-a-decade population count by the U.S. Census Bureau and sometimes in response to a court ruling. Changes are required to keep a state's congressional districts equal in population after people move into or out of an area. Trump is pushing for a rare mid-decade redistricting in Texas, and Republicans are also considering it in other states including Missouri, Florida and Indiana. 7 seats is the size of the GOP's US House majority Republicans currently hold 219 seats in the U.S. House, seven more than the 212 held by Democrats. Four of the chamber's 435 seats are vacant, three of them previously held by Democrats. Midterm elections most often go against the president's party. In 2018, during Trump's first term, Democrats had a net gain of 41 seats to capture the House majority. 15 days before Texas Democrats returned home Most House Democrats left Texas on Aug. 3 and stayed outside the state for 15 days. They fled to blue states like Illinois, California and Massachusetts to stay out of the reach of the Texas law enforcement officers trying to bring them back. Many of the same lawmakers also walked out in 2021 for 38 days to protest GOP proposals for new voting restrictions. Once they returned, Republicans passed them into law. 24 hours a day of police escort for Democrats The Democrats who bolted for other states and returned now have an around-the-clock escort from Texas Department of Public Safety officers to make sure they return to the Capitol, House Speaker Dustin Burrows' office said. Burrows' office did not provide more details, calling it an ongoing law enforcement operation. Plainclothes officers escorted them from the chamber after Monday's session.

Palo Alto Networks jumps on Q4 beat, strong outlook
-- Palo Alto Networks posted quarterly results and issued forecasts, better than what market was expecting, sending cybersecurity company's shares up 6% in after-hours trading. The company posted adjusted earnings of 95 cents per share for the fourth quarter ended July, beating analysts' average estimate of 89 cents. Revenue was $2.5 billion, in line with expectations. For the current quarter, the company expects earnings of 88 to 90 cents per share. Estimates were of 86 cents. Revenue target is in the range of $2.45–$2.47 billion, average of which is slightly above analyst estimates. The company projected fiscal 2026 earnings of $3.75 to $3.85 per share and revenue in the range of $10.475 to $10.525 billion, also beating Wall Street forecasts. Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ:PANW) also said its founder and chief technology officer Nir Zuk has retired after more than 20 years. Chief Product Officer Lee Klarich will take over as CTO and join the board. Palo Alto's forecasts signals AI boost for cybersecurity tools
(Reuters) -Palo Alto Networks forecast fiscal 2026 revenue and profit above Wall Street estimates on Monday, betting on growing demand for its artificial intelligence-powered cybersecurity solutions, sending its shares up nearly 5% in extended trading. The company has been benefiting from an AI-driven upgrade cycle as enterprises accelerate their cloud adoption and modernize security operations amid rising data breach incidents. A wave of high-profile cyberattacks has hit global companies including Microsoft, UnitedHealth Group, Walt Disney and Oracle, prompting the need for robust security solutions. Palo Alto's new launches such as cloud security platform 'Cortex Cloud' and security platform to protect AI apps 'Prisma AIRS', together with its planned $25 billion CyberArk acquisition, deepen its cybersecurity offerings. Its revenue grew 16% to $2.54 billion from a year ago. It reported adjusted EPS of 95 cents for the quarter ended July 31, beating estimates of 88 cents.
