‘Hasn't been another player at Northern like her': Fillipi cements legacy with Wolves
'It's actually one of the greatest feelings ever, especially to have it at Northern State here,' Fillipi said. 'Everybody is just behind you.'
Rianna Fillipi was a standout at Lennox High School, where she averaged double figures in scoring and earned All-State honors in 2019.
'I'm a gut recruiter and when I see it, I know,' Northern State head coach Paula Krueger said. 'I can't really tell you what 'it' is, but I can feel 'it' and she had 'it'.'
Fillipi committed to play for Paula Krueger and Northern State. From the moment she walked on campus, a lot of trust was placed in the 5'8″ point guard.
'She's who I chose to build my program on,' Krueger said. 'I think every head coach when you come in and you're going through that process, you find that one person that you know you can trust with everything.'
Fillipi has scored in double figures her entire career, but her elite passing ability was showcased early.
Rianna has tallied 566 career assists, shattering the old program record of 400. She's also the NSIC leader in assists each of the last two seasons.
'My eyes just kind of light up, it's what I gravitate towards,' Fillipi said. 'If I can drive down the middle of the paint and find a three point shooter and I have Michaela or Alayna in the corner. I just know it's an automatic assist.'
Fillipi has left an everlasting mark on the Wolves program, becoming the first player to ever tally 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.
'Every single game is just special, to just take it game by game and enjoy it,' Fillipi said.
'There hasn't been another player at Northern like her, and I can say that with tremendous confidence,' Krueger said. 'I can say that because I played here, I was an assistant here, and I've coached here now as a head coach. What she means to the program I don't know that we'll truly feel, until she's not here anymore. I hope that that's still three or four weeks down the road.'
Northern State will face either USF or Minnesota Crookston in the NSIC Quarterfinals on Sunday.

That included three centre-backs often charged with remaining solid and tight as a unit, with the wing-backs either side of them given much more license to roam. Transfer activity Matheus Cunha, Wolves' top scorer with 15 goals last season, has left for Manchester United. Both first choice wing backs have also moved on, with Rayan Ait-Nouri now lining up for us and Nelson Semedo at Fenerbahce. Wolves have moved to replace the creativity of Cunha with Colombian international Jhon Arias, who came up against City for previous club Fluminense in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup final. The superbly named David Moller Wolfe is the new left wing back option. Manager With 10 wins from 22 games, Vitor Pereira's 45.5% win percentage is the seventh best in the division although that is a comparatively small sample size to many of the managers featured. He enjoys the opening weekend too, having won eight of his 10 MD1 matches in his top-flight managerial career across spells with six different clubs. The 57-year-old has not only endeared himself to Wolves fans with results on the pitch, he's also been known to frequent the pubs and bars popular with locals after a game. Now on his 11th club since leading Porto between 2011 and 2013, the Portuguese manager has experience all across the globe. How they score their goals With 54 goals in 2024/25, Wolves were the joint-12th highest scorers in the Premier League. Coming from a 16th highest xG and shots total, that shows an outperformance in terms of what's expected in front of goal. A 9.8 outperformance of their xG (44.2) was in fact the second best in the division. As we've said, top scorer Cunha has gone but Jorgen Strand Larsen, who netted 14 times himself, remains. WATCH: Extended highlights: Wolves 1-2 City They were 19th in the Premier League for headed goals with just four, but they were devastating on the break – netting eight times, the fourth most in the division. And from set pieces, they scored nine times – the 16th best in the division. How they defend Wolves' 69 goals conceded in 2024/25 meant only three defences were leakier than them. However, they only conceded an xG of 58.7 meaning the -10.3 differential between the xG conceded and goals conceded the worst in the division. Goalkeeper Jose Sa's save percentage of 59.7% was the lowest of the 26 stoppers across the division to play at least 10 times. Key players A lot of the responsibility for finding the back of the net will likely fall with Jorgen Strand Larsen after his 14 goals last season. Joao Gomes' haul of three was the next best of those still at the club. Bellegarde provided seven assists, but the four next most creative players last term have all left. Ait-Nouri played 37 of the 38 games last season but fellow regulars Gomes, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Strand Larsen are all still there. Head-to-head at Molineux We've faced each other 11 times at Molineux in the Premier League era, with City winning six times and Wolves four. That's included 23 City goals and 12 for Wolves, with last year's playing of this fixture seeing John Stones head a winner in the dying embers of the game. Home and away, we've won nine of our last 10 meetings with Wolves, with the only exception being a 2-1 in September 2023.

Man City could be without a couple of their star players when they open their Premier League campaign this weekend. City travel to Molineux to take on Wolves in the Saturday tea-time kick-off on opening-day weekend, as new left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri heads back to his former club. Pep Guardiola's team were plagued with injuries last season, forcing them to invest heavily in the transfer market last January, signing the likes of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Vitor Reis, and Abdukodir Khusanov. This summer, they have seen quite the overhaul of the squad, with star names such as Kevin de Bruyne and Kyle Walker departing, while Reis has joined sister club Girona on loan and Maximo Perrone has moved to Como permanently. Yan Couto has also made his loan deal at Borussia Dortmund a permanent one, leaving City particularly light at right-back. They did most of their transfer business early this summer, signing Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, James Trafford, Sverre Nypan, and Marcus Bettinelli to add to their current complement. The Spaniard suffered another setback in his comeback from that long-term hiatus, with Guardiola revealing that he had sustained a 'big injury' in City's defeat to Al-Hilal at the Club World Cup. After their trip to Wolves, City take on Tottenham and Brighton before the international break at the beginning of September. "Rodri is getting better but he had a big injury in the last game against Al-Hilal," Guardiola said. "He has trained better in the last few days. Hopefully after the international break, he will be really fit. "Hopefully in these games, he can play some minutes, but what is important is that he doesn't have pain because we don't want Rodri coming back injured. We will try desperately to avoid that. "He has been training the last two sessions with us and that's good." Potential return date: Phil Foden Guardiola conceded that the England international had missed out on City's trip to Palermo with an ankle niggle, although the Catalan held hope that he would have the former PFA Player of the Year winner back for the visit to the Black Country.
