Tata Technologies launches digital battery passport ‘WATTSync' to boost traceability
Tata Technologies on Tuesday announced the launch of WATTSync , a digital battery passport solution designed to enhance traceability, compliance, and sustainability across the battery lifecycle — from mining and manufacturing to usage and recycling. According to the official press release, WATTSync will provide a live, shared view of critical data such as materials, performance, carbon footprint, and recovery status, while also automating compliance reporting against evolving regional regulations. The platform offers secure, role-based access for suppliers, auditors, and regulators, ensuring what Tata Technologies described as a 'single digital truth'. Why is it required? From February 2027, all EV and industrial batteries sold in the European Union will require a digital battery passport. India has also signalled its intent to introduce a similar framework, making early adoption critical for global OEMs and battery makers. The system connects product lifecycle management, manufacturing execution systems, enterprise resource planning, and cloud data lakes to build a digital thread for each battery. Artificial intelligence will monitor health, detect anomalies, and guide audits, while blockchain safeguards data integrity. The solution is aimed at enabling better circular outcomes through recycling insights, faster audit readiness, verified sourcing, and smarter design decisions supported by AI-led feedback loops. Tata Technologies said WATTSync is cloud-agnostic, allowing deployment at speed and scale across regions.
