Jordan condemns 'Israeli' plan to reoccupy Gaza

Jordan today condemned 'in the strongest terms' the 'Israeli' Security Cabinet's plan to solidify its occupation of the Gaza Strip and establish full military control. The foreign ministry called the plan a continuation of 'Israel's' grave violations of international law, a subversion of the two-state solution, and an attack on the Palestinian people's inalienable right to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Ministry spokesperson Dr. Sufian Qudah affirmed the kingdom's strong rejection of the plan, which he described as an extension of the "extremist Israeli government's policy of using starvation and siege as a weapon against the Palestinian people." He also pointed to the systematic targeting of civilian facilities, hospitals, and schools as clear violations of international legitimacy and the 1949 Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians in times of war. Qudah noted that full military control over the Gaza Strip would derail international efforts to achieve a ceasefire and end the humanitarian crisis. He emphasized that 'Israel', as the occupying power, must comply with its obligations under international law, immediately halt its aggression on Gaza, and open crossings to allow for sufficient and immediate aid into the strip. The spokesperson reiterated Jordan's support for the Qatari, Egyptian, and US efforts aimed at reaching a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire, implementing a prisoner exchange agreement, and delivering adequate aid to Gaza. Qudah called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities by taking active steps to immediately stop the 'Israeli' aggression. He stressed that the only path to a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region is to fulfill the Palestinian people's rights to establish an independent state on their national soil.

'Israel' will erase Palestinian state, vows Smotrich

'Israeli' Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich vowed Friday to 'erase the Palestinian state' and rebuild settlements in the West Bank that were dismantled as part of the 2005 disengagement. Smotrich hoped to see his plan come to light 'in the coming weeks', coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the withdrawal from Gaza and four West Bank settlements, he said in statements to Ofek newspaper cited by 'The Times of Israel'. 'The people of Israel are correcting the sin of Gaza,' he said, referring to the Gush Katif former settlement which was based in south Gaza, and calls by settlers to reestablish it. '...and I hope we will also be able to fully correct the sin of northern Samaria,' he continued. 'Israel' approved plans to rebuild the settlements of Sa-Nur and Homesh earlier this year, which were dismantled along with Ganim and Kadim during the disengagement. Smotrich vowed that those plans serve to 'erase the Palestinian state' and claimed it also aims at preventing another Oct. 7. 'A large part of what we are doing today in Judea and Samaria is the product of insights from October 7,' Smotrich said.

King reaffirms Jordan's rejection of Israeli plan to expand military control over Gaza: royal court

His Majesty King Abdullah II received a phone call from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday, during which he affirmed that Jordan is making every effort to deliver relief aid to Palestinians in Gaza by all possible means and without obstruction or delay. The call covered the Israeli security cabinet's endorsement of a plan to consolidate the occupation of Gaza and expand military control over it. His Majesty expressed Jordan's rejection and condemnation of this move, which undermines the two-state solution and the rights of Palestinians, and threatens international efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and end the humanitarian suffering in Gaza. The King affirmed Jordan's solidarity with Palestinians and the Kingdom's commitment to supporting them in obtaining their just and legitimate rights and establishing their independent state, on the basis of the two-state solution. The call also touched on the dangerous escalations against Palestinians in the West Bank, and the repeated attacks on Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. For his part, President Abbas praised Jordan's political and diplomatic efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty, to support Palestinians, and provide them with humanitarian aid.
