Jordan condemns 'Israeli' plan to reoccupy Gaza
The foreign ministry called the plan a continuation of 'Israel's' grave violations of international law, a subversion of the two-state solution, and an attack on the Palestinian people's inalienable right to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Ministry spokesperson Dr. Sufian Qudah affirmed the kingdom's strong rejection of the plan, which he described as an extension of the "extremist Israeli government's policy of using starvation and siege as a weapon against the Palestinian people."
He also pointed to the systematic targeting of civilian facilities, hospitals, and schools as clear violations of international legitimacy and the 1949 Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians in times of war.
Qudah noted that full military control over the Gaza Strip would derail international efforts to achieve a ceasefire and end the humanitarian crisis.
He emphasized that 'Israel', as the occupying power, must comply with its obligations under international law, immediately halt its aggression on Gaza, and open crossings to allow for sufficient and immediate aid into the strip.
The spokesperson reiterated Jordan's support for the Qatari, Egyptian, and US efforts aimed at reaching a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire, implementing a prisoner exchange agreement, and delivering adequate aid to Gaza.
Qudah called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities by taking active steps to immediately stop the 'Israeli' aggression. He stressed that the only path to a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region is to fulfill the Palestinian people's rights to establish an independent state on their national soil.
