Cyprus Grants Financial Support to Syrian Families to Resettle
Deputy Minister for Migration Nicholas Ioannides sated that they would allow the main income earners to remain in Cyprus for up to three years to work as part of a voluntary repatriation program.
Ioannides noted that families must drop their claims for asylum or rescind international protection status in order to qualify for the program.
The government will receive applications from June 2 to Aug. 31.
Ioannides said that families wishing to voluntarily return will be given a one-off sum of 2,000 euros ($2,255) for one adult and 1,000 euros ($1,128) for each child.
Importantly, couples who do not have children can also apply.
According to the program, the family's main income earner, either the father or mother, will obtain a special residency and work permit. Therefore, they can stay for a minimum of two years in Cyprus with the option of staying for a third year.
Moreover, the income earner will be allowed to travel back and forth to Syria as long as his or her residency and work permit are valid.
'This new program is a targeted, humanitarian and realistic policy that bolsters Syria's post-war transition to normality,' Ioannides said.
Syrians represent the largest group of asylum-seekers in Cyprus. Recent Asylum Service figures showed that 4,226 Syrians applied for asylum last year.

Trump raises bounty for the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration has doubled its reward for the arrest of Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro from $25 million (€21.4 million) to $50 million (€42.9 million), accusing him of being one of the world's largest narco-traffickers and working with cartels to flood the US with fentanyl-laced cocaine. Despite the big bounty, Maduro remains in power after defying the US, the European Union and several Latin American countries who viewed his 2024 re-election as a sham, and recognised his opponent, Edmundo González, as Venezuela's duly elected president. In July, the Trump administration struck a deal with Venezuelan officials to secure the release of 10 Americans jailed in the capital Caracas, in exchange for Venezuela getting scores of migrants deported by the US to El Salvador. Shortly after, the US reversed an earlier ban on US energy giant Chevron to resume drilling Venezuela after it was previously blocked by US sanctions. Bondi says the US Justice Department has seized more than $700 million (€600 million) in assets linked to Maduro, including two private jets and close to 7 tonnes of cocaine, which was traced directly to the Venezuelan leftist leader. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil released a statement calling the reward 'pathetic' and accused Bondi of orchestrating a 'crude political propaganda operation.' 'We're not surprised, coming from whom it comes from. The same one who promised a non-existent 'secret list' of Epstein and who wallows in scandals for political favours,' Gil said, referring to the backlash Bondi faced after she reversed a promise to release more evidence on the Epstein case. A Turkish Defense Ministry source stated on Thursday that Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have failed to comply with a deal signed with the new government earlier this year to integrate into Syria's state institutions. The source also warned that the recent clashes between the Kurdish parties and government forces threaten the country's unity, according to Reuters. Saudi relief trucks arrive in Syria's Sweida province with humanitarian aid
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Twenty Saudi relief trucks arrived in Sweida province in the Syrian Arab Republic on Wednesday, carrying essential humanitarian supplies as part of the Kingdom's ongoing aid campaign to support the Syrian people. The convoy was organized by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), in coordination with Syria's Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management. The trucks delivered critical items including food, medical materials, and other basic necessities to assist those affected by the country's prolonged humanitarian crisis.
