The online fundraising venture so far ahead has put the achievement into perspective while fierce criticism online tries to water it down, with some social media users even going to the extent of labeling MrBeast "one of the most evil people alive."
The Record-Breaking Charity Broadcast
It was an almost 18-hour long marathon that saw their initial $5 million target raised by an astronomical amount, officially becoming the biggest money-making livestream according to the Guinness World Records. The earlier Guinness World Record was set by Z Event in 2021, raising $11.97 million.
With it said that every dollar signalizes a year of sustenance for clean water for one individual, the $12 million haul would see hundreds of thousands of lives served.
MrBeast himself called it an "instant life-changing moment" for the affected communities and took to X to celebrate.
"Just did my first stream and we raised over $12,000,000 for charity! Most money ever raised in a live stream."
Social Media Backlash
In spite of the good effects, his post was soon attacked by certain groups within the online community. A certain viral response accused him of being "genuinely one of the most evil people alive today."
The objections coming from this go less toward the actual fundraising act and more into long-running discussions on MrBeast's philanthropy model for content. The dissenters say that a lot of his projects walk down the line between charity and entertainment, thereby selling acts of charity that in return only serve to augment his own brand supremacy.

A $12 million donation toward the $40 million TeamWater goal certainly constitutes a massive step to provide clean drinking water to vulnerable communities for years around the globe, whatever arguments are exchanged.
