India will face Hong Kong, China on 10 June 2025 in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 as Manolo Marquez is confident after good preparations.
India will face Hong Kong, China on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, in Matchday 2 of Group C in the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifiers Final Round at Kai Tak Stadium in Kowloon.
The Group C standings currently show all four teams level on one point each, after both games on Matchday 1 on 25 March ended in goalless draws. India drew with Bangladesh in Shillong, while Hong Kong secured a point against Singapore. Only the group winners will qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup. India, having qualified for two consecutive Asian Cups for the first time in 2023, aim to continue their historic streak. Hong Kong, also a qualifier for the previous tournament, are competing for the sole available berth.
India's head coach, Manolo Marquez, expressed confidence ahead of the Blue Tigers' match against Hong Kong.
'Our preparations have been much better this time compared to previous FIFA windows, where time was limited. We had about three weeks to prepare in Kolkata, Bangkok, and here in Hong Kong. We are ready to perform. Nothing special," Marquez said.
'The team environment is quite good. Obviously, any team's environment improves when consistently winning games. Regardless of results, the relationship between our players is very good," he added.
India centre-back, Konsham Chinglensana Singh, echoed his coach's sentiments. 'We are well prepared for the game after three weeks in the camp. Mentally and physically, we are ready," he said.
The Blue Tigers have had mixed results recently. Of the three matches they played in 2025, they have won one, drawn one, and lost their last match against Thailand. Marquez, however, is not overly concerned about the 2-0 defeat.
'In my opinion, most coaches aren't worried about scores in friendly games. We are focusing on the important match against Hong Kong," he stated. 'I know the score against Thailand is being discussed, but with better finishing from our chances, it could have been different. This is football."
The match at the newly built 50,000-capacity Kai Tak Stadium is set to be the inaugural football event at the venue, with tickets reportedly sold out. The stadium features a retractable roof which will be kept closed during the match. On Monday, the Blue Tigers had an official training session to acclimatise to the conditions.
'We will try to enjoy the occasion at this stadium. I'm not sure if it will be completely full, but a large crowd is expected. It will be a nice event, but our focus is on winning the game," said Marquez.
Hong Kong, China's head coach, Ashley Westwood, familiar with Indian football, having coached clubs like Bengaluru FC, ATK, and Punjab FC in India before his international roles in Afghanistan and Hong Kong, praised the development of Indian football over the years.
'I went to India in 2013, and the country has progressed significantly since then. I know their coach; I watched the ISL. He's a good coach, doing well with FC Goa. He trains right, prepares right, and his players are always fit. The spirit in the squad is good, and everyone gets along well. We're looking forward to it," Westwood said.
Hong Kong midfielder, Ngan Cheuk Pan, emphasised the need for his team to focus on their game against India. 'We're following the coach's tactics and focusing on improving our performance. We want to play our game," he said.
India and Hong Kong, China have faced each other 24 times, with the Blue Tigers winning nine matches, Hong Kong winning eight, and seven games ending in draws.

And here's the other thing: in the two Test matches that India won, the best bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, didn't play,' Clarke said on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast. Poll Who was the standout bowler for India in the recent Tests? Mohammed Siraj Jasprit Bumrah Other bowlers Not sure 'Bumrah didn't play the two Test matches that India won. So, to the other bowlers in the Indian squad — they deserve a lot of credit for stepping up. 'And I do believe, and I don't think anybody would disagree, that any team with Bumrah in it is a better team. But to be able to win those two matches without him, that bowling attack deserves a lot of credit.' IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill on Oval thriller, Siraj's spell, and missing Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah Talking about India's hero Mohammed Siraj, the former Australia captain said: 'India bowling again — Krishna, Siraj. Michael Clarke puts to rest Jasprit Bumrah's critics amid workload management debate: 'Don't think anybody would say...'

Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke maintained that having Jasprit Bumrah in the lineup automatically makes any team stronger, regardless of the recent Test series results against England. Bumrah was not the decisive factor for India in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which ended in a 2-2 series draw. Interestingly, India won both Tests in which he was rested, but suffered defeats in two of the three matches he played. The premier pacer faced scrutiny for taking rest for two matches in the crucial series, as many weren't impressed with him and team management picking and choosing matches to manage his workload. Clarke was highly impressed with the way India fought back at the Oval and levelled the series in Bumrah's absence, and gave due credit to other bowlers who stepped on the big occasion. However, he didn't shy away from accepting that having Bumrah only makes any side better. 'To win the last match and level the series. Wow! Phenomenal, absolutely brilliant. And the other thing as well. In the two Test matches that India won, the best bowler in the world didn't play in (Jasprit) Bumrah. Bumrah didn't play the two Test matches that India won. So, to the other bowlers in the Indian squad, they deserve a lot of credit to be able to step up. And I do believe, and I don't think anybody would say differently, any team with Bumrah in it is a better team. But to be able to win those two matches without him, that bowling attack deserves a lot of credit,' Clarke said on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast. 'Siraj is a better bowler when there is more pressure' The legendary Aussie skipper heaped praise on Mohammed Siraj for thriving under pressure and relishing the senior bowler role in the side when expectations are high for him. 'India bowling again, Krishna, Siraj. Wow! I feel like every time Bumrah is not around, Siraj has this – 'I've got to stand up' mindset and attitude. He wants the ball when the team is under pressure. I feel like he's a better bowler when there is more expectation and pressure put on his shoulders. I think he really enjoys that role in the team. Fifer in the second innings, just to keep it going,' Clarke added.

Rajat Patidar forced to call police on Chhattisgarh boy; Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers caught in bizarre mix-up: Report

Indian batter Rajat Patidar recently found himself at the centre of an unusual episode involving his old mobile number, two cricket fans from Chhattisgarh, and local law enforcement. What initially appeared to be a routine telecom matter quickly escalated into an intriguing story, which forced the Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain to seek help from the local police. Royal Challengers Benglauru's Virat Kohli (R) and Rajat Patidar(RCB-X) According to a report from NDTV, Patidar's former mobile number had been inactive for over 90 days, leading his telecom provider to deactivate and subsequently reassign it. The number was purchased by a teenager named Manish, from the Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh, who activated it with a Reliance Jio SIM card in late June. Shortly after activation, Manish and his friend Khemraj noticed Patidar's photograph appearing as the WhatsApp profile image for the new number, a vestige of the number's previous ownership. Soon after, the phone began receiving calls from prominent figures within the cricketing community, including Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, who were attempting to contact Patidar. Though initially baffled, Manish and Khemraj found humour in the situation, unaware of the number's significance. The situation became more serious when Patidar himself contacted Manish to reclaim his old number. Patidar explained the importance of the number as a vital connection to his coaches, teammates, and personal contacts. However, the young men remained sceptical, humorously replying, 'And we're MS Dhoni,' refusing to believe it was truly Patidar on the line. Faced with disbelief, Patidar reportedly warned, 'Okay, I'll send the cops,' a threat that quickly escalated the matter. Within ten minutes, the local police arrived at Manish's residence to mediate the situation. Realising the gravity, Manish and Khemraj cooperated fully, returning the SIM card to its rightful owner. A dream come true Reflecting on the incident, Khemraj described the experience as a dream come true: 'I got to speak to Kohli because of a wrong number. My life's goal is complete,' he told the TV channel. Patidar enjoyed a career-high in June earlier this year when he led the RCB to their maiden Indian Premier League title in his first season as the side's captain. The team defeated Punjab Kings in the final.
