New keeper makes Bachmann departure even more likely
Despite some confusion among fans, first-choice keeper Egil Selvik is going nowhere this summer: the Norwegian international signed a three-and-a-half year contract in January when he moved from Udinese.

That takes him through to the end of the 2027/28 season, and the club have the option to extend that by a further year.
'During the winter my contract ran out with my former club, so I was going to move,' he explained in an interview with The Watford Observer in March.
'I talked with a lot of clubs, both here in the Championship and in other places in Europe.
'Udinese came to me quite late actually, but we had good talks and they told me about the situation they have where they co-operate with Watford.
'They said there might be a possibility for me at Watford as well, it just came a bit earlier than I expected.

'When Gian Luca Nani called me to ask about it I could have said no, but it was my decision.
'I felt good about Watford and it felt like a nice move.'
Selvik's arrival in January certainly made the Hornets stronger at the back - the 27-year-old kept six clean sheets in 16 games during the second half of the season, and has firmly established himself as the man in possession of the shirt.
While much attention, and indeed angst, was focussed on the club not giving Tom Cleverley an extra striker or another midfielder in the winter transfer window, they certainly provided him with a very good keeper.

And now Baxter's arrival yesterday means Watford have three senior stoppers on their books, and so the departure of Bachmann seems the anticipated solution to having one of that trio watching each game from the stands.
The Hornets also have Alfie Marriott, who sat on the bench 10 times last season, and Myles Roberts – he had an impressive 21-game loan spell with Partick Thistle before spending the second half of the season at Bristol Rovers without making an appearance.
Then there are the likes of Jonathan Macaulay, Gabriel Ortelli and Roraigh Browne who shared Under-21 duties last season.
Bachmann, who will turn 31 next month, made 22 appearances last season but had clearly lost the trust of a lot of fans.

He signed a new five-year contract in July 2023 and was named as captain by the then head coach Valerien Ismael.
His most recent appearance for the Hornets was on January 4 in the 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield United, and that could well turn out to be his last as the Austrian will understandably want to play first-team football.

Real Madrid coach praises Mastantuono and downplays player's choice of Messi as world's best
MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has praised the maturity of teenager newcomer Franco Mastantuono and downplayed the player's choice of former Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi as the world's best player. The 18-year-old Mastantuono signed a six-year deal with Madrid and said during his introduction last week that he considers his countryman Messi the best in the world. 'It's logical for Messi to be his favorite player," Alonso said on Monday. "He's from Argentina and he's left-footed, so it's no surprise to me.' Messi dueled with Cristiano Ronaldo for years when he played for Barcelona and Ronaldo — also considered by many the best in the world — played for Madrid. Now, Ronaldo is playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia while Messi is with Inter Miami in the United States. Madrid already reached a deal to sign Mastantuono but had to wait until the former River Plate player turned 18. The club reportedly paid 45 million euros ($52.5 million) in the transfer. 'The first time I spoke to Mastantuono, I was struck by his personality," the new Madrid coach said. "He was 17 then, and he was very sure of himself. He didn't seem at all concerned about making the jump to Real Madrid. That maturity and quality has been evident since he arrived. I know he'll settle in quickly, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.' Alonso added Mastantuono could see playing time in the team's opening La Liga match on Tuesday against Osasuna. 'He'll bring us quality and energy, he's highly committed,' the coach said. "He's got great drive from a defensive perspective. In the little time I've spent with him I can see that Argentine spirit, he's a warrior, but he's got quality, too. He's a combative player and he's got a beautiful left foot, both from set-pieces and in the final pass. He's got lovely technique and he's very young. We have to guide him, but he's already playing at a very decent level.' ___ AP soccer:

Paramount Skydance (PSKY) Jumps 30% on Meme Rally
We recently published . Paramount Skydance Corp. (NASDAQ:PSKY) is one of the last week's top performers. Paramount Skydance surged by 30.5 percent week-on-week, having performed a 'meme' rally during the week, according to a stock market expert. In a social media post last week, Mad Money host and former hedge fund manager Jim Cramer regarded Paramount Skydance Corp. (NASDAQ:PSKY) as a 'meme stock' given the company's small public float and unjustifiable rally amid the lack of fresh developments to perk up buying. However, investors may have snapped up shares after it bagged a $7.7-billion deal to exclusively air the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on Paramount+ for seven years beginning in 2026. The deal would include UFC's full slate of 13 marquee numbered events and 30 Fight Nights through its direct-to-consumer streaming platform, Paramount+, with select numbered events to be simulcast on CBS. Photo by Kosta Bratsos on Unsplash As part of the agreement, Paramount Skydance Corp. (NASDAQ:PSKY) will remove the pay-per-view model in favor of making the events available at no additional cost to subscribers of Paramount+ in the US. While we acknowledge the potential of PSKY as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
