Mexico's Osmar Olvera Ibarra wins men's 3m springboard gold at Singapore Worlds
China's Cao Yuan took silver with 522.70 points, while teammate Wang Zongyuan, who had led both the preliminary and semifinal rounds, earned bronze with 515.55.
Ibarra made an impressive start, scoring 91.80 and 89.25 points on his first two dives. Despite slight dips in the next two rounds, the 21-year-old regained momentum in the fifth round with a well-executed 109C, which earned 102.60 points - enough to edge past Cao by 0.55 points.
He held his nerve on the final dive to secure the title.
"I feel amazing. It's a dream come true, to be a world champion in this dream year, in an Olympic event. And now I am really happy. I'm really satisfied," said Ibarra.
"I got it today, and I'm still working for next year to keep this level, and still fighting with the Chinese divers."
The victory marked the first time since the 2005 Montreal World Championships - when Canadian legend Alexandre Despatie took gold - that a non-Chinese diver has won this event. China had captured the title at every edition since.
Ibarra has won medals in every event he participated in, claiming one gold, three silvers, and one bronze at Singapore Worlds.
Reflecting on the outcome, three-time defending champion Wang said: "The men's 3m springboard is a very competitive field, but this will help me grow and not rest on my laurels. With such a strong slate of competitors, we'll spur one another on and push one another to grow and get better. With strong opponents, we'll only get stronger ourselves."
Earlier in the day, Chinese divers Chen Jia and Chen Yiwen ranked first and second in the women's 3m springboard preliminaries to advance to the semifinals.

Christian Coleman, the boyfriend, declined to press charges. AP Sha'Carri Richardson reacts after winning her 100m heat during the U.S. Championships athletics meet in Eugene, Ore.,Thursday, July 31, 2025. (AP Photo/Ashley Landis) Reigning world champion 100-meter sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested last weekend for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Richardson was charged Sunday with fourth degree domestic violence, according to the police report obtained by The Associated Press. On Thursday, she ran in the opening round the women's 100 meters at U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. She has an automatic bye to the world championships in September in Tokyo as the defending champion. "USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter," USA Track and Field said in a statement. Richardson's agent did not immediately reply to an email request for comment. The police report said an officer at the airport was notified by a Transportation Security Administration supervisor of a disturbance between the 25-year-old Richardson and her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman. The officer reviewed camera footage and observed Richardson reach out with her left arm and grab Coleman's backpack and yank it away. Richardson then appeared to get in Coleman's way with Coleman trying to step around her. Coleman was shoved into a wall. The report later said that Richardson appeared to throw an item at Coleman, which the TSA indicated may have been headphones. In the police report, the officer said: "I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim." Richardson won the 100 at the 2023 world championships in Budapest and finished with the silver at the Paris Games last summer. She had a positive positive marijuana test at the 2021 U.S. Olympic trials and didn't compete at the Tokyo Olympics.
