Delhi weather: Powerful thunderstorm, rain wreaks havoc - kills 4, uproots trees, disrupts power, affects flights, metro
Delhi weather today: Four individuals died in rain-related incident after heavy rain and hailstorms lashed parts of the national capital on May 21. The intense thunderstorm impacted flight operations, metro services, caused traffic snarls, uprooted trees, damaged vehicles and power outages were reported as electricity lines were also impacted.
According to Delhi Police, a tragic death occurred at Lodhi Road on Wednesday after a high-beam electric cable fell on a wheelchair ridden man at 7:50 pm. A 22-year-old man from Maujpur died after being trapped under a fallen tree in Gokulpuri, Indian Express reported.
Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) issued a warning, alerting about impact on flight operations due to inclement weather conditions and thunderstorms in the national capital.
IndiGo in a post on X said, 'Our flight schedules are currently impacted due to the heavy rains and thunderstorm sweeping across Delhi, Chandigarh and Kolkata.'
Delhi Metro issued an advisory informing that the sudden windstorm disrupted the operations on Red, Yellow and Pink Lines near Shaheed Nagar, Jahangirpuri and Nizamudin stations.
A day after sudden dust storm and heavy rains, Delhi is expected to witness partly cloudy sky and hot and humid weather conditions on May 22. The minimum temperature today is expected to settle around 23-25 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature will hover around 29 and 41 degrees Celsius. The Regional Meteorological Department of Delhi has issued a yellow alert for today and tomorrow, predicting precipitation.
The IMD had issued a red alert for several districts in Delhi on May 21 as heavy rain lashed numerous parts of the city and gusty winds brought life to a standstill.

1 2 Bhubaneswar: Day temperature would rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the state during the next three days from Saturday with no relief from continuing hot and humid conditions in several coastal districts for at least four days, IMD said on Friday. Manorama Mohanty, scientist and head of the regional IMD centre here, said that little change in prevailing wind pattern supported the rise in day temperature. Mohanty said there are no signs of further advancement of monsoon in the coming one week. "Southwest monsoon, which arrived 15 days before its scheduled date, has only covered parts of south Odisha," Mohanty said, adding that monsoon generally arrives in the state after June 10. However, she said thunderstorm activity with lightning or gusty surface wind would continue in some districts. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm continued in some districts on Friday and in the last 24 hours. Chandbali recorded highest 75.6 mm of rainfall, followed by Jagatsinghpur with 39.4 mm on Friday. The city recorded 1.2 mm of rain. Similarly, Purushottampur in Ganjam district received the highest 46.8 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. On Saturday, thunderstorm activities are likely in five south Odisha districts. Hot and humid conditions would continue in the 11 coastal districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati, the IMD forecast said. Why Is Kashmir Vande Bharat Special? The Vande Bharat Express in Kashmir is specially designed to operate in extreme cold conditions, including temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius. The train is equipped with heated windscreens so it automatically removes frost, improving the driver visibility in extreme cold conditions. The train has advanced heating systems to keep the vacuum system running with warm air even when the temperature goes below zero. The train will leave from Srinagar at 8 am, reach Banihal at 9:02 am and arrive in Katra at 10:58 am. It will depart from Katra at 2:55 pm, halt at 4:40 pm and reach Srinagar at 5:53 pm. The travel time between Katra and Srinagar will be cut by two to three hours with the Vande Bharat Express. On Friday, PM Modi will also inaugurate India's first cable-stayed bridge, the Anji Khad Bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge.

Delhi braces for warmer days as mercury set to rise, AQI drops to 137
Delhi residents are in for a hot and humid Friday, with temperatures expected to hit 39 degrees Celsius and the minimum hovering around 26 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). While the skies will remain generally cloudy, the IMD has warned of possible thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds later in the day. Despite the forecast, no weather alert has been issued for the national capital. Authorities advise residents to take precautions against heat and stay indoors during peak afternoon hours. Delhi weather forecast for the week From today onwards, weather conditions are forecast to stabilise with partly cloudy skies and rising temperatures. Daytime temperatures are set to touch 38 to 40 degrees Celsius between 5 and 8 June. Despite the trend, the IMD has clearly stated that no heatwave conditions are likely over the next seven days. Winds are expected to shift north-westerly later in the week, with moderate speeds of 20 to 30 kmph. Delhi AQI improves after rain The improvement in air quality is attributed to the rain, which cleared the atmosphere of pollutants. Air quality also improved across the NCR, with AQI levels remaining 'moderate' in most locations. Delhi's 24-hour average AQI stood at 203 at 4 pm on 5 June. In Gurugram, the AQI was 149, placing it in the 'moderate' category. Noida and Greater Noida recorded AQIs of 182 and 154 respectively, while Ghaziabad's AQI stood at 176. According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.
