Canadiens Farm Team Drops Game One

Canadiens Farm Team Drops Game One

Yahoo30-05-2025
The AHL Eastern Conference Final got underway Wednesday night at Place Bell, and the Charlotte Checkers dominated the Laval Rocket, at least on the scoreboard, winning 5-1. The Montreal Canadiens' farm team had not played the Florida Panthers' farm team since 2018, and they'll need to adapt in a hurry if they don't want to see the series slip between their fingers.
Following the Rocket's morning skate, it looked like Jacob Fowler would be getting the start since he was the first goaltender off the ice, but when the puck dropped on game one, Cayden Primeau was between the posts. Unfortunately for the veteran, he wasn't in the same superb form he had in the divisional final, and he surrendered four goals in just 19 shots for a mediocre .789 save percentage. Charlotte scored twice on its first three shots.

Meanwhile, the Rocket took 31 shots on Checkers netminder Kaapo Kahkonen, but Oliver Kapanen was the only one who got a puck past him. It wasn't for lack of trying. Pascal Vincent's men got their opportunities, especially since the Checkers were far from being disciplined, getting seven penalties before things got ugly. Both teams were assessed tons of penalties with just over two minutes left in the game.
It was a tough night at the office for veterans Alex Barre-Boulet and Laurent Dauphin, the pair who lead the Rocket in points with 10 and nine points, respectively. They finished the night with a minus-four rating and struggled to find lanes to the opponent's net.
The Rocket will need to turn over a new leaf in a hurry since game two is set for Thursday night. Vincent's team would do well to be ready from puck drop since the Checkers scored early in each period on Wednesday. They scored within two minutes of the start of the first and second frames and 31 seconds into the final frame.

Jacob Fowler should be back in the net tonight, as it's the second part of the back-to-back. Additionally, Vincent hasn't said he'd move away from the alternation system he put into place since Primeau returned from the NHL once the Canadiens were eliminated.
Game two will be a must-win affair for Laval, as games three through five will be played in Charlotte. Losing both home games to start the series would put the Rocket in a tricky situation, to say the least. Game two is set for 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on RDS.

New Checkers smart trolley takes payments, avoids tills

A new shopping innovation introduced by Checkers will allow customers to pay for their groceries directly from trolleys. Labelled the Xpress Trolley, the innovation is expected to have a screen that displays promotions and details of products in the store and provides a running total for customers while they shop. The trolley will also come with in-store navigation to direct customers. The trial follows successful testing at Checkers Hyper Brackenfell, Cape Town in August this year, the retailer said in a statement on Wednesday. Ten trolleys will be made available for customers at the branch, while another 10 are expected to be made available at Checkers Constantia, Cape Town. Major retailers in SA, such as Pick n Pay, trialled self-service options at their store checkouts in 2016, with some stores still having the service. The move, however, was heavily criticised by unions who said it would impact jobs. Checkers has also introduced the service at its Uniq Clothing stores. According to Checkers, customers would need to scan their Xtra Savings cards before shopping, with the trolley also able to scan barcodes of store items. After shopping, they will then head to a dedicated checkout lane which will have a concierge for assistance, to pay directly from their trolley with a bank card saved to their Checkers Sixty60 profile. An invoice will then be printed for them. Chief strategy and innovation officer at the Shoprite Group, Neil Schreuder, said the smart trolley will create 'frictionless' shopping experiences for customers. Supplied/ Shoprite Group While it has been used internationally, the retailer said the innovation was the first of its kind in SA. 'The Xpress Trolley enhances convenience, improves speed, and keeps customers in control from the moment they enter the store to the moment they leave. Smart trolleys aren't about the novelty of screens on trolleys – they're about giving shoppers real-time control, creating a compelling shopping experience,' said Schreuder. 'We are also excited about the potential it holds for Sixty60's in-store pickers, specifically the additional speed and accuracy with which the in-store picking process can be completed,' he added.

Rocket Pharmaceuticals Announces FDA Has Lifted the Clinical Hold on the Pivotal Phase 2 Trial of RP-A501 for the Treatment of Danon Disease

CRANBURY, N.J., August 20, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rocket Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: RCKT), a fully integrated, late-stage biotechnology company advancing a sustainable pipeline of genetic therapies for rare disorders with high unmet need, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has lifted the clinical hold on the Company's pivotal Phase 2 trial of RP-A501 for the treatment of Danon disease. The hold was lifted in under three months, underscoring the efficiency of the FDA's review process and Rocket's commitment to expeditiously optimize safety and resume the trial. In its correspondence, the FDA confirmed that Rocket satisfactorily addressed issues outlined in the clinical hold. The FDA authorized the pivotal study to resume first with a recalibrated dose of 3.8 x 10¹³ GC/kg of RP-A501 in three patients, treated sequentially with a minimum four-week interval between each treatment. This adjusted dose aligns with the lower range of administered doses that were associated with efficacy across multiple biomarkers, echocardiographic and clinical endpoints in the Phase 1 study, and has been determined as most likely to confer the safety and efficacy identified in the low-dose Phase 1 cohorts. In addition, Rocket will collaborate with investigators to implement an immunomodulatory regimen more closely reflecting that administered in the Phase 1 pediatric cohort. The revised regimen discontinues prophylactic use of a C3 complement inhibitor, while maintaining sirolimus, rituximab, and steroids. Additionally, the protocol will specify a lower threshold for administering a C5 inhibitor (eculizumab) in response to impending complement activation. To date, six patients with Danon disease have been treated in the Phase 2 study with RP-A501. Further updates about the Phase 2 study can be expected following review of data from the next three patients. RP-A501 Phase 2 Pivotal Trial OverviewThe global, single-arm, multi-center 12-patient Phase 2 pivotal trial evaluates the efficacy and safety of RP-A501 for the treatment of Danon disease. The trial began with a pediatric safety run-in (n=2) and treated a total of six patients at a dose level of 6.7 x 1013 GC/kg. Per alignment with the FDA upon lifting of the clinical hold, three additional patients are expected to be treated at a dose level of 3.8 x 1013 GC/kg with a minimum four-week interval between dosing, followed by additional patients to complete the trial. To support accelerated approval, the study assesses the efficacy of RP-A501 as measured by the biomarker-based co-primary endpoint consisting of improvements in LAMP2 protein expression, and reductions in left ventricular mass. The key secondary endpoint is change in troponin. Additional secondary endpoints include natriuretic peptides, Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire, New York Heart Association class, event free survival to 24 months and treatment emergent safety events. These endpoints could support full approval with longer-term follow-up. A global natural history study is running concurrently with the Phase 2 pivotal trial. All patients enrolled in the trial are required to have a three-months observational pre-treatment run-in to enable an assessment of troponin (and other biomarker) trajectories to optimally assess this key secondary endpoint. Details about the Phase 2 study can be found at under NCT identifier NCT06092034. About RP-A501RP-A501 is Rocket's investigational gene therapy for the treatment of Danon disease and the first gene therapy for a cardiovascular condition to demonstrate safety and efficacy in clinical studies. RP-A501 has the potential to restore or stabilize cardiac function in patients with Danon disease. RP-A501 consists of a recombinant adeno-associated serotype 9 (AAV9) capsid containing a functional version of the human LAMP2B transgene ( which is administered as a single intravenous (IV) infusion. In clinical studies, RP-A501 has been shown to target cardiac cells (cardiomyocytes) and deliver the functional LAMP2B gene to heart tissue, which led to improved cardiac structure and function in patients. RP-A501 holds FDA RMAT, Fast Track, Rare Pediatric, and Orphan Drug designations in the U.S. along with ATMP and PRIME designations in the EU. About Danon DiseaseDanon disease is a rare X-linked inherited, multi-organ lysosomal-associated disorder with a devastating clinical course. The causative mutation has been identified in the gene encoding for lysosome-associated membrane protein, otherwise known as LAMP2, an important mediator of autophagy and primarily expressed in heart, skeletal muscle and brain tissue. This mutation results in accumulation of autophagosomes and glycogen, particularly in cardiac muscle and other tissues, which ultimately leads to heart failure, and for male patients, frequent death during adolescence or early adulthood. The only available treatment option for Danon disease is cardiac transplantation, which is associated with substantial complications and is not considered curative, representing the high unmet medical need for patients with Danon disease. It is estimated to have a prevalence of 15,000 to 30,000 patients in the U.S. and Europe. In 2023, Rocket secured an ICD-10 code from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to document patients with LAMP2 deficiency in Danon disease.
