Netflix's Best New Show Lands Another 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score

DAN DA DAN
If you're looking for great Netflix shows to watch and don't mind expanding your horizons a bit, there's a new show in Netflix's top 10 list that's going to be worth checking out. It's racked up a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score for two seasons in a row, and it has 90%+ audience scores to boot.
That show is the anime DAN DA DAN, or Dandadan, however you want to format it. The manga series was released in 2021 and is still running. This Netflix anime adaptation premiered in 2024, and now season 2 has arrived in 2025 here. Both have perfect critic scores, making it tied as one of the highest scored animes on the entire service. And as I said, audiences do not disagree. Here's a synopsis of the series:
The show is classified as a 'Shōnen anime,' a popular story structure in the genre, and generally has been thought to target young men in the market. But there are plenty of fans of DAN DA DAN of all stripes.
DAN DA DAN
The original season of DAN DA DAN was successful on Netflix, where it was the most-watched anime series on the service from July to December in 2024, racking up 19.6 million views. That led to a season 2 and that's currently #5 on the service. That's even in the US, and Netflix has boasted that many, many viewers are now dipping into anime in the region. DAN DA DAN being #5 more than two full weeks after launch is a significant achievement.
So, do these numbers mean a season 3 is coming? Well, even before this, that was already happening. There's no release date yet, but it's confirmed that yes, a season 3 has been greenlit and will arrive some time either in 2026 or 2027, depending on the production schedule of the studio. It should cover the 'Space Globalists' arc of the manga, and there is plenty of source material to continue to adapt from here.
Netflix has found a whole lot of success with anime and other animated productions, and continues to invest heavily in the genre either through licensing or its own original projects. DAN DA DAN is just the latest, and it no doubt has a bright future ahead of it on the platform.

Japan's World Cosplay Summit to escape summer heat in 2027

Dressing up at the World Cosplay Summit can be makeup-meltingly sweaty in Japan's baking summer, and after this year's event in record heat, organisers have pushed the 2027 edition to November. The annual extravaganza, usually held in Nagoya, sees thousands of people from all over the world embody their chosen anime, manga and gaming stars in elaborate costumes, outlandish hairdos and zany face paints. Organisers said after this year's 23rd shindig ended Sunday -- 247,200 people attended over three days -- that next year's will also be in August, but for 2027, it will be in November. "This change was made in response to the extreme heat and other weather conditions," the event's executive committee said in a statement on Tuesday. The move was also to "strengthen our efforts to accommodate more international participants and to take into account trends in domestic and international tourists," it said. Japan this week set a new high of 41.8C, with tourist hotspot Kyoto in late July seeing 40C for the first time since records began. Summer last year was the joint hottest on record, equalling 2023, and was followed by the warmest autumn since records began 126 years earlier. Last month, 38,608 people were treated in hospital for heatstroke, data showed Tuesday, down from 43,195 in July 2024. Preliminary findings from the Tokyo Metropolitan Medical Examiner's Office found 56 people in central Tokyo likely died from heatstroke this June and July. Of those, 54 died indoors, and most were aged 60 or older. Thirty-eight of them had air-conditioners but did not use them. stu-tmo/cwl

Seth Meyers Won't Be Distracted by Trump Fiddling on the Roof

Welcome to Best of Late Night, a rundown of the previous night's highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. Here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now. Losing Ground President Trump took a walk on the White House roof on Tuesday, where he shouted responses to questions reporters lobbed up from the lawn, such as 'Sir, why are you on the roof?' On Wednesday's 'Late Night,' Seth Meyers said the incident was a case in point for 'the constant tension of the Trump era: Republicans doing something nefarious that will undermine democracy while the president does something weird and dumb that distracts us.' 'And it's not like you can just ignore it. If the president pops up on the roof of the White House out of nowhere, that's at least worth a mention on the news. I mean, if Obama had been caught climbing out a window in the middle of the night, I'm pretty sure Fox News would have covered it.' — SETH MEYERS 'Well, I'm supposed to be getting beamed back to my spaceship, but I guess I got the day wrong.'' — SETH MEYERS, imitating Trump 'Although I think I know why he went up there. He can't answer your questions if he can't hear them. I mean, if his poll numbers get any worse, he's going to start doing press conferences on top of the Washington Monument.' — SETH MEYERS 'Meanwhile, if I saw Trump on my roof, I would assume he's pulling a reverse Santa Claus — you know, going house to house taking toys away from kids. '[imitating Trump] I just signed an executive order that allows me to take your Labubu collection.'' — SETH MEYERS The Punchiest Punchlines (Come On Down, Grandpa! Edition) 'President Trump yesterday was seen walking on the White House roof for nearly 20 minutes. Man, he is so desperate to distract people from the Epstein files, he's literally doing 'Hey, look over here.'' — SETH MEYERS 'Yesterday, President Trump jokingly said he is ready to install nuclear missiles on the White House roof. Why not? Under the same roof they just had four years — years of nuclear waste.' — GREG GUTFELD 'In a new interview, Trump said that he'd like to run for a third term, but will probably not seek one. Trump said that he might not be sharp enough in his mid-80s, and then went back to wandering around on the roof of The White House: [yelling toward the roof] 'Come on down, grandpa!'' — JIMMY FALLON Want all of The Times?
