According to the state weather bureau's forecast, 50 millimeters to 100 millimeters of rainfall is expected in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Abra, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan. PAGASA officially declared the start of the Habagat season on Friday, May 30. Heat index Despite the expected rains, several areas are forecast to have a 'danger level' of heat index on Monday, with the highest 46 degrees Celsius expected to be measured by the synoptic station in ISU Echague, Isabela. Habagat to bring rains over Luzon this Monday

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is expected to bring rains in several areas in Luzon in the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Sunday afternoon. In its 4 p.m. daily weather forecast, the state weather bureau said Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan should expect wet weather on the start of the work week. Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, CALABARZON, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and the rest of Central Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Habagat. These moderate to at times heavy rains may cause flash floods or landslides. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will also persist throughout the rest of Luzon due to the Habagat. Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. These severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides. State meteorologists also said winds will be moderate to strong while coastal waters will be moderate to rough in extreme Luzon. The rest of the country will see light to moderate wind conditions and slight to moderate coastal water conditions. Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 5:26 a.m. on Monday. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
