Rome Flynn scores 22 points, wins MVP honors at All-Star Celebrity Game
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Rome Flynn scored 22 points, leading Team Bonds to a 66-55 over Team Rice in the All-Star celebrity game on Friday night.
Flynn, the game's MVP, also had eight rebounds and five assists for Team Bonds, coached by baseball legend Barry Bonds. Rickea Jackson scored 16 for Team Bonds.
Flynn, an actor known for the TV series 'How to Get Away with Murder' and 'Chicago Fire,' said his teammates encouraged him to go for MVP honors.
'I'm a team player,' he said.
Terrell Owens scored 18 points for Team Rice, coached by football legend Jerry Rice. Shelby McEwen added 14 for Team Rice.
The celebrity game was the start of the All-Star Friday events, followed by the Rising Stars competition at Chase Center in San Francisco.

Interest in the Tonys may also have been fueled by the competition in the best lead actress in a musical category, with Audra McDonald gunning for her record-setting seventh Tony and Nicole Scherzinger of 'Sunset Blvd.' hoping to be crowned a legitimate Broadway diva after a career in the pop group Pussycat Dolls and as a TV talent show judge. Other Hollywood names included in the telecast included George Clooney making his Broadway debut and 'Succession' star Sarah Snook being named best leading actress in a play for 'The Picture of Dorian Gray,' a one-woman show. Anthony will make his major league debut Monday night at home against Tampa Bay, batting fifth and playing right field, manager Alex Cora said. Advertisement A second-round pick in the 2022 amateur draft, Anthony is batting .288 with 10 homers and 29 RBIs in 58 games this season. The second grand slam of the season for Anthony put Worchester ahead 9-4 in the eighth inning. He drove a 91.1 mph sinker from Carlos Romero deep over the right-center field wall, a drive that left his bat at 115.6 mph. Anthony hit the longest home run measured this year by Statcast, which this season tracks the major leagues, Triple-A and the Class A Florida State League. Guardiola picks up another honor in Manchester. This one is from its university
MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Manchester on Monday to recognize his contribution on and off the field since joining the club in 2016. Guardiola was presented with an honorary doctorate by the university's chancellor at a ceremony to honor his success with City, including leading the team to six Premier League titles and the Champions League, and in the community, notably through his Guardiola Sala Foundation. 'I have spent nine years here and it has become home,' Guardiola said. 'The people, the culture, my incredible football club, my colleagues … it is all so special to me and my family. 'When I arrived here in 2016, I did not know how long I would spend here. The way this city embraced me made everything easy. My time here has been beautiful.' Professor Duncan Ivison, who is the university's president and vice chancellor, described Guardiola as an 'innovator and a winner who has inspired millions of people through his success as a manager.'
