Incoming Cebu governor takes oath of office
Baricuatro took her oath past 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, before Judge Anna Marie Militante of the Regional Trial Court Lapu-Lapu City.
She said that Militante is a classmate in high school and a good friend.
Baricuatro took her oath of office early so she could focus on the local governance transition, or the leadership turnover at the Cebu Provincial Capitol.
"Just like my campaign, my inauguration was a simple and meaningful event. The oath of office was officiated by my high school classmate, Judge Anne Militante. My fellow activists from college, who are now prominent lawyers, organized the ceremony. I felt it was important to get this done as soon as possible so that my team can focus on the transition and preparations needed for effective governance. The inaugural and People's Victory celebration is scheduled for June 29th," Baricuatro said.
Present during the oathtaking ceremony is former Tourism secretary Ace Durano who has accepted the offer to work with Baricuatro as Special Adviser for Economic and Political Affairs (SAEPA).
Cebu City Mayor-elect Nestor Archival graced the event and expressed strong support to Baricuatro's administration.
Archival said that a harmonious relationship between the Cebu City Hall and the Cebu Provincial Capitol is vital to the smooth delivery of programs and projects that the Cebuanos deserve.
Archival describes the harmonious relationship under their administrations as 'one true united Cebu.'
Baricuatro becomes the second lady-governor of the Province of Cebu.
Moreover, the Baricuatro family has expressed their all-out support to the new governor on the new chapter in her life.
According to her daughter, Dr. Elisse Nicole Catalan, and her son in law, Dr. Janos Vizcayno, Baricuatro is not only a mother to them now but the mother of many.
As soon as she assumes office at Capitol, Baricuatro said she would issue an executive order for the removal of the word 'honorable' from her position as governor.

Map shows more than 1,300 measles cases across U.S.
In 2025, the United States has recorded the most measles cases in more than 30 years, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data shows. A large share of the infections were connected to an outbreak in West Texas that led to the deaths of two children. The number of cases in Texas alone grew to over 760 before the state declared it officially over in August, while total cases nationwide have topped 1,300, with infections confirmed in at least 39 states. Measles is one of the most contagious infectious diseases, and in some cases, can cause severe infections in the lungs and brain that can lead to cognitive issues, deafness or death. But doctors and health officials say the vaccine, which is normally given as part of the combination measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, is highly safe and effective. While most people's symptoms improve, about 1 in 5 unvaccinated people who get measles will be hospitalized. About 1 out of every 1,000 children with measles will develop brain swelling that can lead to brain damage, and up to 3 of every 1,000 children who become infected will die, the CDC says. The largest outbreak so far this year has been in West Texas, but cases have been reported in other states around the country, as well. The CBS News data team is tracking confirmed measles cases nationwide as new data is released by state health departments and the CDC. (The map below is updated on Wednesdays when the CDC releases its latest weekly numbers.) The Texas outbreak primarily affected children and teenagers, nearly all of whom were unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccination status. State and local health officials confirmed the first patient who died was an unvaccinated school-aged child, and the second was an unvaccinated 8-year-old girl. Neither of the children had underlying health conditions, the Texas health department said. New Mexico also reported the death of an adult with measles. The last measles death in the U.S. before this year was in 2019, when a 37-year-old man died from measles complicated by meningitis in California, according to CDC data. Until now, the highest number of confirmed cases in the U.S. in recent years was 1,274 in 2019, driven by outbreaks in New York, California and Washington state, but most years the total has been much lower. Health experts point to lower vaccination rates as a reason for increases in preventable diseases like the measles. CDC data shows about 93% of kindergarteners in the U.S. were vaccinated against measles during the 2021-2022 school year and only 92.7% in the 2023-2024 school year. This is down from 95.2% during the 2019-2020 school year — a critical threshold to keep people safe. "When more than 95% of people in a community are vaccinated, most people are protected through community immunity (herd immunity)," the CDC states. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has a history of making false and misleading claims about vaccines, voiced support for vaccination as the deadly outbreak spread in the Southwest. "We encourage people to get the measles vaccine," Kennedy told CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook in an interview April 8, marking the first time Kennedy has publicly urged people to get the measles vaccine since becoming HHS secretary. Asked by LaPook what the federal government's official position on the vaccine is, Kennedy reiterated, "The federal government's position, my position, is that people should get the measles vaccine," but added, "The government should not be mandating those." Klopp 'decisive' in move to Leipzig, says Bakayoko
Belgium winger Johan Bakayoko said a conversation with Jurgen Klopp was the decisive factor in his move to RB Leipzig from PSV Eindhoven this summer. With links to Premier League sides Everton and Nottingham Forest as well as Borussia Dortmund, the in-demand Bakayoko, 22, signed with Leipzig in July. The winger was one of several young additions to Leipzig's squad in the first transfer window under Klopp, who took over as Red Bull's global head of football in January. In an interview with AFP and other media on Tuesday, Bakayoko revealed Klopp's role in recruitment and said his chat with the former Liverpool coach was the "decision point" for the move. "When I had the talk with Jurgen Klopp, for me I thought 'OK, I have to go'. "That was the trigger point for me to say: OK. "(Klopp said) we are here to make you better. We need you. And that's what I want. "So it was a perfect match." Red Bull own RB Leipzig as well as clubs in Austria, the United States, Brazil and Japan and hold minority stakes in Paris FC and Leeds United. The winger said teammate Xavi Simons, who has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, was not distracted by the transfer speculation as the pre-season preparations have continued. "When you're good, that's what happens. (Rumours) are just a part of it. "Xavi is really professional. He doesn't look like a player that's been linked to other clubs." A PSV youth product, Bakayoko has played 18 times for Belgium, scoring once. Leipzig start their Bundesliga campaign away at defending champions Bayern Munich on Friday. dwi/pb
