Savannah Guthrie confesses to using VERY controversial parenting tactic

Daily Mail8 hours ago
Savannah Guthrie revealed that she 'approves' of a controversial parenting tactic during a Wednesday appearance on TODAY With Jenna and Friends - and it might come as a surprise to viewers.
During the appearance, Savannah, 53, and host Jenna Bush Hager discussed a July article from The Wall Street Journal which was about parents looking through their kids' iPhones and iPads.
Jenna explained that in the article, some parents believed it was a 'breach of privacy,' while others thought it was best for the kids' safety.
And it looks like Savannah is on team snooping.
'I'm pro-snoop,' she admitted.
'I don't like the word "snooping," I think it has a negative connotation,' she continued, as she explained that she'd rather use the word 'looking' instead.
Savannah said that her kids are young, so she's not sure what the electronic situation will be like when they're older, but right now, she seems to run a pretty tight ship.
She explained that when her daughter, Vale, 11, got her own iCloud account, she even drafted a contract for her to sign.
Jenna then admitted that Savannah had sent her the contract so that she could use it as well.
'It was basically like, "I know that mommy and daddy love me more than anything in the world. I know that mommy and daddy can read my texts. I know I will not put in a text anything I wouldn't want grandma and grandpa to see, that I wouldn't want to see on the front page of The New York Times, blah, blah, blah,"' Savannah said of the contract.
The journalist explained that her daughter understands that her mom is able to look at her text messages - but she admitted it's not something she does very often.
'I trust her,' Savannah added.
Jenna explained that her daughter, Mila, 12, doesn't have a phone, but instead, gives out her mom's phone number to her pals.
'What is happening? I'm getting Gigi's FaceTimes,' Jenna joked.
In the past, Savannah has been quite open about motherhood, explaining in a 2019 interview that becoming a mother later in life enabled her to feel like she could really 'take her time' with her children.
The 53-year-old journalist and her husband Michael Feldman, 56, had their daughter, Vale in 2014 and their second child, Charley, who is now nine years old, in 2016 when Savannah was in her mid-40s.
The 53-year-old journalist and her husband Michael Feldman, 56, had their daughter, Vale in 2014 and their second child, Charley in 2016 when Savannah was in her mid-40s
'I always wanted to be a mom, and it took us so long to get married - we dated for so long - that we thought maybe it was too late and we'd lost our chance,' she told People at the time.
'When we found out we were pregnant, I don't think there were two happier people on this planet,' she added.
Savannah added that she didn't mind becoming a mother at an older age than others, as she said the pressure isn't as intense for her now as it would have been earlier.
The mother-of-two explained that during a person's 20s and 30s, they are typically trying to kick-start their career.
She shared: 'I definitely have a good head on my shoulders, I am able to prioritize, and I think there's a luxury to feel calm enough and not to feel the same pressures as in your 20s and 30s, when you are really trying to make your career happen.
'Now, I can really take my time and enjoy our kids,' she added. 'We feel so lucky to have each other.'

Devastated Aussie Olympian Tilly Kearns announces shock split with her NFL star boyfriend - despite both of them still being in love

Australian water polo Olympian Tilly Kearns has revealed that she has split up with her American football player boyfriend solely because of the unsolvable problems of maintaining their long-distance relationship. Kearns, who took home a silver medal at last year's Paris Games, has shocked her friends and followers by announcing her break-up with Los Angeles Rams player Justin Dedich. The couple, who met at an American university several years ago, have parted ways on the best of terms and are 'hoping that the universe brings them back together' in the future. 'Justin and I are not together anymore,' Kearns told her YouTube followers. 'Purely because of long distance and it's not what we wanted... 'We're still very much best friends and hoping that the universe brings us back together.' 'It isn't our choice, but it has to be this way - thanks to long distance and our sports. Maybe once we're both retired, it'll work. 'Everything in this video, we still love each other forever. Everything in this video is 5000 per cent true. 'It makes me so happy looking back on it, but also sad - and yes, we're both f**king devastated, but what can you do?' Kearns then played a Q&A video that she made with Dedich while the pair were still dating, in which they answered questions about various topics, including their relationship. The couple spoke about how they met, what their pet peeves about each other are and how they managed to stay together when they were so far apart. Kearns said the keys to making it work are being understanding, having open communication and being OK with not talking every day. 'There were times when we'd want to call every day for hours and hours and we'd do that - then the next week "I'm really busy this week, I'm exhausted", because you've got to deal with the time difference, too. Dedich added: 'If you're uncertain, don't do it.' When asked what the couple had learned about love by having a long-distance relationship, the NFL star said 'it wasn't stagnant'. 'It's something you have to work at,' Dedich said. 'You can't be just like "it was easy in the beginning, it will just stay like that". It's hard, you've got to put in effort to do extra stuff.' On Wednesday, an emotional Kearns addressed the break-up on her Instagram page, posting that she hoped the YouTube video would answer all the questions she's been getting. In August last year, Kearns revealed the touching moment Dedich surprised her at the Paris Olympics as she was walking into the swimming arena. 'Firstly, he's a rookie in the NFL and he had his first ever NFL game the next day, so it literally was not even a thought in my head,' Kearns explained in a TikTok video. 'Like, he was just doing his thing, I was doing my thing, we just knew we couldn't be there to support each other in person to support each other.' Kearns is visibly shocked in the video when she sees Dedich supporting her in the stands. 'This is one of my old water polo coaches so I was already so surprised seeing him,' she says during the video. 'Then I walk a little bit further and this is the moment I see him.' Kearns went on to explain how her boyfriend managed to make the trip happen. 'Turns out that when we won our semi final to get into the gold medal game he went up to his head coach, really ballsy of him, and basically was like, "Tell me if I'm out of line, but can I go?"' she said. 'And the coach was like, "Yeah, man, what are you still doing here? Go." And so he got on a plane that night and flew.' Dedich's whirlwind trip to Paris lasted less than 24 hours before he was back on a plane home. Kearns was born with elite sport in her veins. Her footy star father, Phil Kearns, played during the Wallabies' most successful era in the 1990s, while her mother Julie introduced her to the Olympics two weeks before giving birth. 'My parents went to the Sydney 2000 Opening Ceremony and I was in mum's belly and I was born the day after the Closing Ceremony,' Kearns said.

Kirsten Dunst puffs on cigarette in LA after admitting she wants to make a movie where she doesn't 'lose money'

Kirsten Dunst was spotted enjoying a smoke break outside a cafe in Los Angeles on Monday. The Interview with the Vampire star, 43, cut a casual figure as she puffed on a cigarette while out with a friend. The actress — who revealed that her son had a terrifying health scare in a candid new interview on Wednesday — sported a striped button-up blouse tucked into a pair of dark jeans with a black belt. Her casually chic look was completed with white sandals and a pair of black sunglasses. The Academy Award nominee wore her shoulder-length blonde hair down and parted on the side. It comes after the indie cinema icon — who's worked with influential directors like Sofia Coppola and Lars von Trier — expressed her desire to make a movie where she 'doesn't lose money.' Dunst even floated the idea of her joining the cast of Minecraft 2, after A Minecraft Movie — based on the popular video game — dominated the box office with $955 million worldwide. 'Maybe I can just make a movie where I don't lose money?' she told Town & Country in an interview published on Wednesday. A film like Minecraft 2 would be quite a departure for the star, who has usually opted for arthouse favorites over mainstream films. Even as an Oscar-nominated actress who has starred in countless mainstream movies, she remains beloved by fans for her work in indie films like The Virgin Suicides (1999) and Melancholia (2011). However, Dunst's successful career does include more commercial roles like The Spider-Man Trilogy (2002-2007), Bring It On (2000) and Jumanji (1995). Elsewhere in the new interview Dunst revealed that her young son James had a 'frightening' health scare while she was filming in Budapest earlier this year. The actress, who shares James, four, and Ennis, seven, with husband Jesse Plemons, 37, moved abroad for six months with her family to film The Entertainment System is Down - but 'very quickly' her youngest child became seriously ill. Dunst told Town & Country the terrifying time was like 'Final Destination, where you're imagining all the things that could go wrong, worst case scenarios happening to your child. 'I have never seen that movie. But I know the concept. That's how it feels to be a mother at times.' On Wednesday, Dunst shared in a new interview that she'd like to make a movie where she 'doesn't lose money', and floated the idea of joining the cast of Minecraft 2; Still from A Minecraft Movie Plemons and their sons had joined her in Budapest in January, with the plan for them to stay with Dunst for the entire filming duration and Ennis enrolled in school before James fell ill. Plemons later took their sons back to their 'extended support system' in Los Angeles while Dunst remained abroad - bar an April visit - to finish the film. While Dunst wouldn't be drawn on James' specific health condition, she stressed that he is doing fine now. She said the health scare 'brought us together as a family in such a deeper way' and revealed they will soon holiday in the Bahamas as they promised to take James 'anywhere he wanted to go.' The star previously opened up about James on Jimmy Kimmel Live in April 2024, saying: 'He's almost three and when he's bad we call him Jimmy. He's out of control. 'We actually call him baby Chris Farley because of the way he walks around and he's just hilarious. He's a crazy little dude.' Dunst and Plemons got together after starring in Fargo Season 2 in 2016, getting engaged in 2017. They married in 2022 in a secret ceremony in Jamaica. 'We fell in love creatively first,' Dunst gushed to the LA Times in 2021. 'He was like a creative soul mate to me and the way we both work. On Fargo, I knew after two weeks. 'I didn't remember saying this, but one of my best friends told me that I said to her that "I will know this man for the rest of my life. I just know it." 'Just because I felt such an immediate connection.'

Jack Draper walks back US Open mixed doubles 'exhibition' remarks after crushing semifinals loss

A night after deeming the US Open's revamped mixed doubles competition 'a bit of an exhibition' - and getting playfully chided by his teammate Jessica Pegula - Jack Draper walked back those remarks following a crushing loss to Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud on Wednesday. Draper and Pegula led 8-4 in the 10-point, third set tiebreak before collapsing, and the Englishman took note of their opponents' serious approach to the match. 'I think yesterday there were times where it felt a little bit more that way [like an exhibition] from our opponents, like a little bit more. Whereas tonight we were in the changing rooms, you're seeing Iga and Casper and they're like fully dialed in. They're fully dialed in.' He continued: 'The people who come to watch the mixed event and fill up the crowd, they want to see really good tennis. Yeah, it ain't an exhibition.' Pegula apologized after she 'scolded' him in their post-match press conference on Tuesday as she hailed the intensity of Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd for the business end of the new-look format, which features shortened sets, no-ad scoring and was moved up to qualifying week to attract stars of the singles game. 'Yeah. I mean, you can't go out there at 7:00 on Ashe knowing obviously you could play the final, and feel like you're just out there,' she said. Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper are the dynamic duo we didn't know we needed 😂 (@tntsports) — Bastien Fachan (@BastienFachan) August 20, 2025 The 2024 women's singles finalist said the atmosphere for the semifinal was 'arguably more crazy almost than a singles match', and the crowd certainly got into it in the latter stages of a thrilling 3-5, 5-3, 10-8 (tiebreak) win for Swiatek and Ruud. 'I think it's just a bit of a spectacle. People love sport,' Draper said. 'People especially in New York, they love getting into it. They love just watching good points and watching people competing hard and trying to win. I think they respect that. It's like a really nice environment to be in.' After advancing to the semifinals on Tuesday night, Draper said 'it would mean a lot' to win the mixed title - but didn't quite stop there. 'Obviously it is like a bit of an exhibition format. It's nice to play with someone, to get to know them...' Pegula quickly stepped in, adding: 'He shouldn't be saying that, but it's okay.' A confused Draper asked: 'What? What did I say? Have a bit of fun with it. I don't know. I like winning. It's good to win, right?' 'Yeah, but it's not an exhibition,' Pegula said. 'I know what you're saying.' Wanting to correct himself, Draper added: 'It's a bit of an exhibition, a bit of fun, why am I so locked in? It's a good opportunity to play, do well, get a lot of points in before next week.' They certainly did that, and formed an obvious connection on and off the court - though Pegula rued some of the late mistakes she made in the semifinal. 'I had so much fun. I mean, obviously it helps when you're winning a few matches and you get to play a night on Ashe. I feel more sad honestly than after a singles match in a way,' she revealed. I feel like I kind of let him down a little bit. 'But besides that, I really wanted to play another match. I had so much fun. Like, we got along really well. I was hoping we could get to the finish line there.'
